The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would be prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

The next Fantasy Premier League RMT contender is Alex Bowers, the winner of the Ultimate Fantasy Premier League Beta version 2013/14.

Alex is not thrilled about having Gylfi Sigurdsson on the bench for the first Gameweek so he is open to alternative suggestions for his fifth midfield slot. He is adopting a wait-and-see aproach regarding Chelsea midfielders, Arsenal and Manchester City. Is he right to wait?

    Alright, I'm done, let's get this show on the road:

    Begovic (Krul)

    Caulker, Clyne, Moore (Ward, N.Taylor)

    Mata, Fabregas, Ramsey, Mutch (Davis)

    Rooney, Costa, Bony

    Every time I try changing stuff, I always come back to this lineup. I like it for the first few weeks, then I can make changes if there are really jn form players. Thoughts are always appreciated, but I honestly can't see myself doing anymore changes 😛

    Totally new to this so I would love some advice to help me crush my "expert" friends.

    Green / Krul
    Caulker / van Aan / n Taylor / Ward / Wisdom
    Mata / Cesc / Young / Siggy / Sanchez
    Fletcher / Sturridge / Rooney(C)

    .5 remaining

    I also feel that Schurrle is often overlooked at this point and could save some cash by switching Sanchez for Ramsey and building up my defense or 3rd striker.

      Defence is too weak.

      I would definitely switch to Ramsey and use that 2.0 leftover to fix your defence. Get a Chelsea defender like Luis if you can.

      schurle is often rotated and doesn't play enough to justify picking him.
      Not sold on young and never will be, same with fletcher. Think Henderson will be much more reliable scoring wise.
      Maybe switch to a 3-5-2 abd maximize your budget.

    I keep on tinkering this is where I am now

    Krul (Myhill)

    Chambers / Ferdinand / Collins / Ward / Bartley

    Mata / Ramsey / Fabregas / Sterling (Isgrove)

    Costa / Rooney / Jovetic

    Question is do I drop Jovetic and re invest some of the money in the defence?

    Options are

    Jovetic to Austin/Wickham and then go for Cahill and Begovic (in place of Ward and Krul) or upgrade Ward to Baines

    Can anyone recommend a good 4.0 Defender as well as my other thought is to double up on the palace boys at the back

      1. Switch Sturridge to Costa. Keep Costa or Rooney captain.

      2. Krul is good with a decent rotation partner. Suggest DDG or Bego if you want a strong solo keeper.

      3. Doubt Herrera and Fletcher both nailed

    I cant decide whether I want a team with top 6 coverage (option b)- decent coverage I think but not the main men of each team for the most part- or a team with Yaya & Sturridge (option a)

      May I suggest Siggy - Bojan - Costa - Mata - Eriksen?

      I don't think Yaya or Sturridge are needed.

        I dont necessarily want Bojan. It's just I have 12 left with all the other heavy hitters. I also think I would rather go Lamela over Eriksen if I dont go option A. He's a nice differential and will probably play in the hole.

        Also the above would leave me with no Liverpool or Man City coverage. I'm trying to cover all my bases at the start of the season!

          Sterling is a stronger and cheaper option than Sturridge if you need Liverpool coverage.

          Dzeko is whom people seem to be turning to for City coverage.

          I haven't followed Tottenham's pre-season or anything, so I'm curious. Why do you believe that Lamela>Eriksen?

            Lamela has more goals pre season and will probably be playing behind the striker. Also for the differential factor.

            Jovetic and Dzeko will probably both start for City til Aguero comes back. Jovetic is slightly cheaper, has been doing well pre season... and is also a differential. I can't help myself when it comes to differentials!

    Here's what I hope will be my final team. Initially I wanted to fit in Sturridge in a forward position but I realized I might get better value out of another premium midfielder. Going for 3-4-3 in GW1:

      Bojan and Siggy have strong rotations, so that's good.

      You're brave going for Luis. Mourinho does not screw around with his defence after it's been established and it did well last year.

        I guess I kinda figured Luis would be a shoe in for LB with Aspi and Ivanovic rotating for RB. I would rather have gone for Terry...but I don't know where to milk that extra 0.5 from.

      I would avoid mangala. We don't know if he is a guaranteed starter or not. Debuchy is yellow card prone..... I would downgrade debuchy to a 4.0 (Hutton is nailed)) and downgrade krul to a 4.0 and then use the 2n to buy nasri so you have man city cover.

          Would be better imo. Defenders are great when you know they will perform. Early season is a clean sheet lottery. Bojan has goal and assist potential so do it. Strengthen the defence when you know the performers in a few weeks time.

      Keepers are fine.

      Evans may miss the first game. Cahill seems to be preferable to Terry.

      I think Fabregas > Hazard. He's played better in pre-season and gives you that extra 1.0 to play around with.

      That depends on so many things. I would suggest you rotate between your third striker and fifth midfielder.

    sacrificed a bit in defence for a strong mid-field.
    any thoughts/suggestions will be welcome. last season was my first and was beaten by a non-football supporter, cant have that again
