Finally got home from the United game.
Even though I imagine a fair few of you watched it on TV, I thought I would share my thoughts:
De Gea was rarely seemed challenged and I thought United's defence did very well against Valencia, Jones did very well. As soon as Valencia won the free kick that led to the goal, I knew a goal was imminent, very poor defending from set pieces.
Rooney was a concern for me, after the goal from Valencia he dropped deep, when he was attacking he played through the left. He missed clear chances and made the wrong decision on when to pass and when to shoot.
James, however, now there is somebody for the watchlist.Open Controls

Nastasic doesn't seem to be favoured and wasn't great in the Arsenal game which probably doesn't help his chances either. I can see cup games being nasty and Demi and the league pairing being Mang and Komp but how soon will that partnership take to start up?

Van Gaal is not a God like United fans seem to think he is. The fixture list has been incredibly kind so United should be near the top in November. However by the end of the season Champions League qualification will probably be a struggle.
Most United fans I have spoken to completely disagree and are confident of champions league qualification at least. Are there United fans that can see that the defence and midfield are much worse than Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and City's?

Yeh United fan here, it'll be a real struggle to get Champs league. All the other top teams has strengthened more than we have except (arguably) Liverpool because of the loss of Suarez. I'd take 4th now easy if it was offered.

Not a United fan, but am Dutch and I can tell you that tactically Van Gaal is as close to a God as they come. Holland had a worse midfield and defence than Spain and Brazil. That man plans out every move that every one of his players will make and anticipates on every move the opponent will as well.

I'm sure you all remember this, but it may be handy to those who haven't. Mourinho seems to reckon that Luis is a ''real'' left back, unlike Azpilicueta (who was playing OOP last season) and now Ivanovic can return to his favoured position, which is CB.

I think people really rate Lovren as a defender and think he'll help Liverpool tighten up. Also he's a good goal threat. Liverpool only need to tighten up a bit and he's a good pick. If they tighten up just a bit more, I think he's a great pick. Mignolet's unpopular, I assume, because cheaper rotating gks tends to be more economical.
