As we revealed on Tuesday, not only are we supporting PlayON again this season, the game has undergone something of a revolution over the summer.

New ways of playing have been developed, inspiring us to roll out an updated version of our PlayON Strategy Guide, touching on some of the latest ploys that can help you achieve success in the game.

The newest feature from PlayON, is that Fantasy managers can now earn an income from their Fantasy team. Once the team-picking deadline has passed each week (two hours before first kick-off), all teams are locked in their final state and are then revealed on the site. Fantasy managers can then search through all teams and filter for teams that include/exclude certain players, teams with over x number of points or x points per player etc. Managers can they “Add” any of these teams to their own list of teams and can then use these teams to enter in-play games – receiving the benefit of any points already accrued by the team.

The beauty of this is if someone else uses one of your teams to enter an in-play game and they win money, you receive a percentage of their winnings. You can amend what percentage you require for your teams in real-time, so if your team is racking up the points on Saturday afternoon, you can increase the percentage share you require from other users in order for them to be able to use your teams. So even if you’re not entering any games for real money on PlayON each week, it still makes sense to pick three teams and if people use your teams, you could end up in the money.

Read on for our strategy guide to PlayON and further details on the new additions to the PlayON Fantasy manager’s weekend.

Find the Untouchables

Ideally, a PlayON lineup needs 11 starters who are more than likely to play for 90 minutes. With five points earned for every minute played, there are 450 points available for finding reliable starters who can see it through to the final whistle. Sometimes you can compensate for an absentee and a few goals can carry a 10-man team but as a rule, be sure to focus on the players that will ensure you get a full starting XI out on the pitch.

Hunt out the Bargains

This is without doubt a major key to success. PlayON’s pricing algorithm does its thing in advance of every Gameweek, repricing players each week based on performances over the prior number of Gameweeks. Often, this can create a select band of players who, for one reason or another, are clearly underpriced and offer value. In particular, look out for those returning from injury or suspension – they will often have taken a price dip having missed several matches.

Dare to be Different

You can sometimes kid yourself that you’ve put together a strong lineup when, in reality, others will be going into the Gameweek with very similar players. A differential or two is always handy and taking one or two calculated risks can give you the edge when it comes to the shake-up for the cash prizes.

Watch for Late Injuries

Harking back to our first point, that late nugget of team news can be all-important when it comes to finding bargains. If a regular starter is crocked, this could open the way for a undervalued second string player to come in – while this is a big gamble when dealing with attacking players, it’s often handy at the back with defenders.

Read our Player Picks

Every Friday we’ll bring you two player picks from each position that will help provide the foundations of your PlayON lineup. Just two, mind – we don’t want to give you a full team.

Earn From In-Play Tournaments

There’s a new way to win in PlayON this season, with “In-Play” tournaments allowing you to continue entering games while the matches are unfolding in real-time. You can continue to enter your own teams into one-on-one games and limited entry multiplayer games (i.e. 3, 4, 5, 10 or 20 player games) after the team picking deadline. Only limited entry games are available In-Play as a short time-lag between the first and last entrant is needed so no-one is at an information disadvantage. To facilitate this, PlayON has also introduced the “Unjoin” function, which enables you to immediately unjoin a game at any point before it fills up (i.e. up until 2/2 entrants are in a one-on-one game or up until 10/10 entrants are in a 10 player multiplayer game).

There’s an added dimension to this though. PlayON enables a manager to enter In-Play games with not only their own teams, but with teams originally picked by another manager. You get a quick and easy route into a game (ideal for new players or players who haven’t picked a team during the week), while the creator of the team can earn a commission from your winnings.

There’s real strategy to this. Do you enter an in-play game with a complete lineup of players yet to play, or do you adopt another PlayON manager’s lineup with some players used and some points already in the bank?

Other People Using Your Teams

The flipside of this is that you can earn a commission on winnings from all the people using your teams to enter In-Play games. Imagine this – you select Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata in one of your three PlayON lineups ahead of Saturday’s early kick-off and they both score. Others may then jump on it to use your teams to enter In-Play games over the remainder of the Gameweek and you can earn a % of their winnings from In-Play tournaments.

If your team is doing really well and you would rather enter all games yourself to maximize the amount you win (each team can only be entered into each game once), you can opt out of allowing other people to use your teams, but you then eliminate the ability to earn commissions from other users.

Commission levels can also be tweaked as you go so, if you think your team is hugely valuable and much sought after, you can raise your commission from 5% right up to 50%. Of course, the commission level, combined with the players and points scored could be a deciding factor on whether your team is ultimately used by other PlayON managers.

With this in mind, even if you’re not looking to enter tournaments, if you select three PlayON lineups each week and your selections fare well, you could earn an income from your teams with no outlay.

New tactics and strategies will reveal themselves once we’ve had time to settle into PlayON again this season. One thing is for sure, the game certainly introduces a new approach to Fantasy Football that looks intriguing.

PlayON has a huge £10,000 pot on offer just in Gameweek 1 to celebrate the new season. You can only enter your own teams into the £10,000 game as entries for this game close on Saturday at 10.45 – the team-picking deadline. Thereafter, the In-Play games, the ability to use other PlayON managers’ teams and earning money from commission all begins.

Look out for our first PlayON picks of the season tomorrow at 12.00. In the meantime, head over to PlayON.co and get started.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

        Hi Jambo,
You can do this once the teams are locked and revealed for everyone to see - 10.45 on Saturday morning. Otherwise, your commission will stay at the default 10%

Will it include an example? I am confused by the idea that someone can jump on board a team at 4:30pm on a Sunday when its already clear that team will win.

            Hi Ginkapo,

Each team can only be entered into each game once. So if there is a team with 20,000 points and the next highest team on the site that week has 10,000 points at 4.30, then it is unlikely that anyone will play against that first team.

However if the top 5 teams on the site have 10100 10200 10300 10400 and 10500 points at 4.30, it's unclear which will ultimately win so people are free to make a call on which one they think will win and can enter games if they wish

        Hi MissingLink,

The following is how the a gameweek works on PlayON:

Non-Live State: Monday morning - Sat 10.45 (team picking deadline - 2 hours before first kick-off)
        - Users can pick up to 3 teams and can resave them as many times as they like;
        - Unlimited entry games are live during this period only - once the team picking deadline occurs, no more entries into limitless entry games (10k game in Week 1, as well as the other unlimited entry games for the different stake levels on the site)
        - Limited entry games - these fill up during the week and new games are auto-regenerated by the system as they fill up. For any limited entry games (either one on one or limited entry multiplayer games) that aren't filled by the team picking deadline, users already entered into these games get their entry refunded. This is to ensure that everyone knows what game they are entering at the point of entry - we feel it would be wrong to put a 10 player game live with just 7 entrants as that is not the game that the 7 users entered.

Live State - Sat 10.46 - Final Whistle
        - No more team picking, all teams locked and revealed so people can start searching through them;
        - In-Play games go live - a new set of limited entry games (one on one and limited entry multiplayer games) go live. Only limited entry games to ensure there is a short time lag between the first and last entrant into games. Any unfilled games at the final whistle get refunded to entrants in the game. Users can see the specific teams they are challenging / entering games against during this period.

Hopefully that helps clarify. If not let me know

      Hi Killian

Trivial one from me but I'll raise it anyway - why when I'm building my team is the dropdown team filter sorted in order of kickoff? So it goes:

      Man Utd
      Swansea
      Leicester
      Everton
      .
      .
      .
      Burnley
      Chelsea

I'd find it easier if it was alphabetical. Maybe just me.

(I did say it was trivial 🙂 )

Need to save 0.5 in defence...here's how

    Terry/Cahill > Luis

I think in the smaller games at least Luis will start. Azpi offers nothing going forwards from LB. Against teams that come to Stamford Bridge to sit narrow and compact, Chelsea will need that overlapping LB to allow Hazard to cut inside without being tracked.
In the bigger games I can see Jose reverting to Azpi LB, Ivanovic RB.

    Verdict: 50:50

    Fonte > Clyne

New BPS system favours fullbacks, and Clyne is a flying fullback capable of bombing forwards, completing dribbles and earning assists from crosses.

    Verdict: No brainer

    Chester > Bruce

Currently in the side but faces heavy competition from Maguire and McShane, not to mention possible rotation due to extra EL games. Only a possibility if they play 3 at the back. Chester and Davies are the only nailed on defenders in this team.

Verdict: Only as a last resort

    Caulker > Rio

Both should be certain starters in Harry's new back 5 system. For 0.5 more Caulker offers a significant goal threat. Rio's injury record in recent years isn't great.

Verdict: Good, but Caulker's goal threat might mean look elsewhere for savings

    Ward > Kelly

This is an interesting one, as Kelly is almost certainly being signed to start at RB instead of Mariappa who's a lot more comfortable at CB. As long as Palace don't sign a LB, Ward will be nailed on there. Kelly's had fitness issues, but has been fit for a while now, and played a fair bit of Liverpool's friendlies.

Verdict: Good move in time, but how long will that be?

I see Azpi as more of a rotation threat for Ivan then I do for Luis, for two reasons.
      1) Azpi is a natural right back.
      2) Luis is one of the best LBs in the world

In time yes, but José said in the post match press conference after the last friendly that he will build a team for the first few games around players (and he specifically mentions Ivanovic in the interview) who have been training for the longest in pre-season.

With this in mind it's 50-50 whether Azpilicueta or Luis will start on Monday.

      A few attacking options perhaps?

      Dzeko -> Jovetic:

Dzeko has been ordinary in pre-season and looks short of match fitness, this all bodes well for the man in form, Jovetic. In past seasons Dzeko also found himself labelled with the super sub tag, something which he may have to wear again. Jovetic didn't get much of a look in last season due to injuries, and with his current form I see no reason why he couldn't work with Aguero who would lead the line.

      Verdict: Jovetic

      Hazard -> Fabregas

Fabregas has hit the ground running at Chelsea with a fine pre-season. He has immediately found his feet in at Chelsea and appears to be the chief architect of their attack. Hazard may have dropped off at the end of last season and had an average world cup but he too could profit from the help of Fabregas and Costa. Hazard will get more chance and will have a world class striker to finish off the chances he provides

      Verdict: 50/50

        Sanchez -> Ramsey

Verdict: Ramsey. Someone do the write-up, I can't be bothered.

        Basically:
        - Rambo is proven in PL, Sanchez is not.
        - Rambo had a great season last season, should continue. Good Pre-season form.
        - Playing in the same line of attack as Sanchez, with Arteta in front of the back 4.
        - 1.5m cheaper.

Arsène Wenger has revealed the following team news ahead of Arsenal's Premier League opener at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

    on Theo Walcott and Ryo…
They are not available. Ryo is very close after injury and Theo is, as I always said, end of August or start of September. That is back into training of course.

    on Serge Gnabry…
He is not ready as well. I am not sure about the timeframe at the moment.

    on David Ospina…
Ospina is two or three weeks away. He has a thigh strain from the Brazil vs Colombia game.

    on Abou Diaby…
He's back in full training - that's good news. He needs to play a few games but this week he looked good in training.

    on Laurent Koscielny…
Koscielny had a knock on his Achilles but he should be available for Saturday.

        This.

Exactly why I think Chambers will be great for the first few GWs. He won't play say GW and in the CL, which means he should play GW2. Mert is likely to be played in the CL, and maybe Kosc gets a rest, so GW2 is Mert/Kosc and Chambers. From there on it's a toss up, anyone's guess, but it looks like Kosc will be rotated so the Chambers wagon can plow on for a couple of weeks.

I doubt you will sign another CB now. Wenger will feel fine starting Kosc GW1 with Chambers, then realise Kosc needs more of a rest and Chambers will start more games 😉

    De Gea

    Debuchy | Terry | Naughton

    Young | Ramsey | Sterling | Lamela

Jovetic | Diego Costa | Rooney

Bench: Myhill | Hutton | Bartley | Sigurdsson

Would have had Krul as sub GK but I'm not sure if Luis or Azpi will start yet, so Terry it is.

Right somehow been roped into double QPR defence.

Have Caulker and am definitely keeping him, then to get Palace cover I have to go with Speroni leaving me 4.5 for a keeper and Green is the best option to rotate with Speroni... Surely there's a better option?!

What are people's thoughts on Martin Kelly (if he moves to Crystal Palace)?? Potential Ward replacement? I am after a 4.5 CP defender for GW2.
