With Gameweek 1 concluded, it’s time to delve a little deeper into the data in our first “Big Numbers” article for members of the campaign. We analyse the display of Arsenal’s new wide man against Palace, the QPR front pairing at home to Hull, Liverpool’s ever-improving youngster, Southampton’s delivery under Ronald Koeman and United’s weekend scorer in the 2-1 home loss to Swansea.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Caulker > Clyne?

My reasoning is QPR do not look like they will keep cleanies this year. Caulker relies off free kicks to score his goals and Barton's delivery is absolutely atrocious based off that Hull game. Southampton on the other game looked really solid at the back, especially with Wanayma to shield them, he was brilliant against Liverpool. Clyne was a constant threat down the wing and showed with his goal. Is it a good move?

I think QPR were quite unlucky to not keep a clean this past weekend, if I'm honest. Only goal allowed was off a set piece and I thought they defended pretty decently. I think they have as good a shot as any of the mid-table / lower-half of the table teams at keeping a clean sheet. That said, I do prefer Clyne, but I would maybe think it too lateral of a move to do right now, and would not advise it.

I think Barton just had a bad game. His delivery is normally better. However, i'd probably still do this transfer.

I have both of them in my team, going for scoring points rather than CS's. That said, I reckon QPR with a back 3 will keep plenty of cleanies this season. Shame that Ferdinand has totally forgotten how to defend corners though, stupid duckface

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

      Jesus hates figs!

Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry.
Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves.
Then he said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered.

Transferred out Mata for Fab, and felt like it's the best thing I did!

Very pleased with it before Fab went up 0.1.

Have been tossing between Mata and Fab for GW1 and Mata won on fixtures, but looking at the overall performance I struggle to see him do much even with the easy fixtures.

Fab at corners also boosted his appeal.

      Same here.

This is what clinched it for me: http://www.squawka.com/news/how-man-uniteds-juan-mata-struggled-to-get-going-in-favoured-role-against-swansea/160019

Mata got 3 "chances created", but 2 of those were corners (of which he took 9, with 7 cleared), and the other one was a sideways pass in midfield for a tame Rooney long-range effort. Not exactly great "chances" when you compare them to the 3 that Fabregas created. Different levels.

Fab has 5 giants to aim for on corners too which helps. Mata has Jones lol

I only chose Mata because I was unsure how Mourinho would use Fab in his midfield, but its clear that he will alternate with Oscar as the most advanced mid so will definitely get more points.

Value is another nice bonus too.

Today's only early Wednesday here, in the next few days I could see more selling Mata for similarly priced midfielders. Suspect most will come on Friday and Saturday when those people who look at their team once a week make changes.

Don't want to hold on to Mata hoping he won't drop that 0.1 which will really hurt.

Judging by the fact that Siggy didn't rise to 0.2 today, it would seem they've upped the threshold for players rising (some are saying the 0.2 threshold is double the 0.1, and 0.3 is treble... like it used to be apparently).

If that is true, then there won't be as much volatility in prices. With that in mind, gaining back lost value will be harder since price rises are fewer and further between.

Don't put *air quotes* around Chances Created.

It's an OPTA stat, like a goal attempt.

So, both Mata & Fabregas had 3 chances created.

This isn't too knock Fabregas but, more to tell you how silly you're being by subjectively sorting this stastic to create a narrative you prefer.

Lovren has high value because he can score loads too. He might take a freekick or two as well... seen in preseason and training sessions (with Hendo, Sterling, and sturridge).

Its between Debuchy and Lovren out of those though, but I would choose Lovren because of the higher goal threat. Everton will score too really.

Looked like he's going to be a big threat down those wings. Type of player who attacks first, defends later. Is it worth a transfer right now? I'd be inclined to say no because United are great away from home and Rooney is sure to bag a goal. Definitely worth keeping on the watch list though.

Watched parts of the game. His defending needs to improve, but for me I always like to get the cheapest starter on the team. All Sunderland's choices are at 4.5 so what won it for me is his attacking prowess.

As long as he can keep his place, which I think he will.

I find this year the premium forwards are almost unattainable with out scarring some part of your team. Two at 12m in RvP and Aguero. The odd priced Sturridge at 11.5 and Rooney and Costa are a hefty price. While Lukaku's price turns me off.

i love this. means we actually have to chose only a couple and many will get it wrong. the perfect team won't exist. the same applies to midfield where there are just too many good players in the 8-11m range to fit them all in without sacrificing either attack or defense.

So, am I the only one who feels Arsenal has had a very underwhelming transfer window?

One decent player, one back-up goalkeeper, one RB because we were forced to, and some kid who can play everywhere.

Need a solid CB and and some striker in the next one week. 😐

Compare it to previous years....Don't just go off what Carra was saying on MNF. They were missing Mert and Ozil, and Giroud isn't fit yet.

Theyve got a top backup keeper now, a solid RB (probably like for like with sagna, but younger), chambers has looked great so far in 3 games (2 CS's, no goals in open play)

Sanchez can play up top too if needed.

A solid holding midfielder with more brutality than Flamini could help them get a hold of Yaya for example... the big teams just ran riot against them because they had no one to grab the game in the middle of the park

Well the worst decision Wenger will make this season is to make Arterta captain as it makes him harder to drop.

If they have someone like Matic or Fernando they will be in contention for the title.

But they don't so they will not. But 3rd or 4th should not be an issue I reckon.

          Know what?

That the price monitoring sites are not an exact science?

I *know* this from playing for years & seeing the discrepancies that exist between them, as well as noting that certain prices do not change when it's clear they *should*.

Finally, I've made a reasonable assumption that the system has not been changed because, if it had I'm certain this forum would have made mention of it.

If he starts he's in my team.

Although, I'm curious who you like as a replacement for him?

Bony - great fixtures, amazing home record but, more expensive
Pelle - great price & fixtures but, an unknown FPL asset
Remy - decent fixtures & proven but, may not be with QPR in a week's time

That's the only worry though he showed last season he can be effective from the bench, too. It's not like any of the other third striker options are screaming right now...

No you don't. United are shoite! He did nothing against Swansea to suggest he'll come good against a Sunderland midfield that will run and harry til their legs fall off

            First of all, its *you're

Secondly, I watched all over Uniteds preseason and wasn't that thrilled by Mata individually, despite the team winning most of the games. I only picked Mata ahead of Fabregas because I wasn't sure Fab would be played so far forward.

Now that that has been cleared up its a non-contest imo, considering that Chelsea are gonna bully plenty of teams this season, and United are gonna be up against it more often than not - their midfield and defense is just shocking.

Sorry mate, RICKARDINHO1 is right. The standard of grammar and spelling on this site is absolutely dreadful - and it needs flagging up. However, I fear that the younger generation just doesn't care.

Hold on a just a moment.

First off, I'm not arguing against *proper grammar*, rather I'm pointing out that using a simple typo (your v. you're) to belittled someone in an argument is petty & does nothing to actually bolster your claim.

Further, this is an informal setting, where we discuss insignificant topics *on the fly* & when we couple that with auto-correct simple slips like this will happen all the time.

If the mistake takes away from clarity, fine; however in this instance the commenter was simply being a cock.

Mata is an odd one - he will score points given his quality & the fixtures, so his price will reverse, of that I am sure.

I watching the Everton game and without Coleman they looked a little unsure at the back but the moment he came on they locked it down. Does he deserve to be as much as Baines? Or having an Ivanovic like returns and potential justify his price?

Everton are a bit of an unknown force this year ... losing Barkley certainly hurts. I'd be steering clear until their fixtures tidy up a bit and see how they fair against the middle-of-the-road teams.
