i really think accounting to chris needs to pipe down with the united bashing or at the very least find a club of his own to support

the fact a 7th place finish is referred to by urself and many others as the worst possible thing says it all..

let me start by saying that when fergie left no one could possibly expected united to remain at the top of the league with david moyes in charge here was a guy who had won nothing as a manager and inherited a very average quad in parts and alot a few past their best...

we now have a manager in place who has won league titles in 3 different countries a champions league and took a very average dutch team all the way to the semi finals of a world cup.. fair to say he's capable

dropping out of the european places last year was admittedly not expected by any united fan but it happened.. liverpool dropped out of europe last year and finished 2nd

and while we are on the subject of liverpool we are talking about a club who last season despite playing some of the best football in the league and being able to focus on every league game without european distraction managed to blow their best chance of a league title in nearly 25 years up in smoke... they have lost their one and only world class player since so safe to say its not gunna get any better than last... they missed the boat and could well be another 25 years before they get another chance like that tbh

now im not gunna deny that all is rosy for united right now far from it but the fact remains that despite no champions league or any european football to offer we can still contrary to the mindless opinions of abus like urself attract the biggest names in word football.. the history and traditions of the club the fan base the financial muscle which is clearly still there playing infront of 76000 fans every week and for a manager that has won it all counts for alot..

and all those abus out there will have slipped into the shadows long before manchester united ever will thats for sure..

Don't worry pal. I'll tell you the size of Manchester United. No European football, worst season in years and they're signing arguably Real Madrid's best player last year. There's banter then there's people being bitter. Transitional period at United. But they'll be back. Whether it's this season, next season or 3 seasons. Progression is key.

Liverpool are in pot 4, chances are that'll be the group of death, that will only be an extra 6 games this season. While Liverpool will not be as much of a force this season the squad has been strengthened and the philosophy remain intact, much like United they won't simply "slip into the shadows".

To be fair I think plenty of people thought that the purchasing of RVP was a mistake. Not that he was wasn't a great signing for a season or two in himself...he was and no doubt (don't forget that Rooney was scoring for fun the season before that)...but plenty thought that SAF needed to invest elsewhere as well. That opinion was voiced by many at the time and it has proved to be right. The blame for United's demise (?) isn't just Moyes's, although he made a couple of bad signings, it lies in SAF's last year in charge as well...

very true wakey theres no doubt fergie neglected what was really needed in the long term the strengthening of the midfield.. i think before fellain the last centre mid we signed was anderson in 06 altho i cud be wrong but u get the drift... fergie knew that by getting rvp and keeping him out of the clutch of city and keeping him fit could win him the title back before he left and so it proved.. he wasnt thinking long term though ur right

    Pelle on Jovetic:

At the moment, it is difficult to say who is the best striking partner for him because Alvaro Negredo is injured and Kun Aguero is not yet 100% but he can play with anyone.

I think the main thing to take is that he can play alongside Aguero, as nobody was sure, as that hadn't been seen last season. So it's not definitely a case of 1 of Dzeko/Negredo with 1 of Aguero/Jovetic

          • 14 Years

what i take from this is that kun/jov will be the main first choice partnership when all are fit.

          dzeko/neg are average anyway imo

There's been a lot of prep work with the 352, so not sure if he will switch immediately. I can see Di Maria starting in a midfield 3 rather than up front out wide.

I really think Man Utd fans need to pipe down about the 20 titles... The worst thing possible has happened to them,

    They've dropped out of Europe
They are getting dominated by their two worst rivals: Man city and Liverpool
The former of the above are PL champions (and are in Europe)
The latter of the above are PL runners up (and are in Europe)
The 'best manager in the world' hasn't got a clue how to make them play well

Manchester United will slip into the shadows of Europa league, and will be battling for 5th-6th

    Neutral football fan.

I'm shocked Madrid let Di Maria go, he's been their best player in recent seasons. He was man of the match in the Champions League Final, over the likes of Bale and Ronaldo. One of the best players in the world, and was the top assister in La Liga last season.

When you look at the top 3 EPL transfer records, his price doesn't look too bad.

    Di Maria.....59.7m
    Torres.......50m
    Ozil............42.5m

    .
LvG has previously said “At this moment, we have five No9s and four No10s and don’t have wingers to give us attacking width,” This suggests Di Maria will play wide.

He has also said it will take 2-3 months before the players will properly adjust to his system, indicating he is sticking with 352. Therefore, we can assume Di Maria will play as an "attacking" wingback.

Di Maria can defend well, and his pace will allow him to run up and down the wings with ease. I think he's perfect for the "attacking" RWB position. But I think he will be play more advanced than Shaw, maybe in a slanted formation. After all, football is dynamic and formations are flexible and shift throughout the match. We'll just have to wait and see. Exciting addition to the league though 🙂

      Massive coup for the club.

"We cannot play my favored 433 because we do not have quality wide options like Ronaldo or Di Maria." - LVG a little over week ago

      Problem solved.

The man is stubborn and has spent a long time working on the system with the players.

You cannot drop RVP Rooney or Mata.

He is stubborn but he said that back when he saw those three as his best attackers. With Di Maria coming in Mata's no longer in the top 3. And he hasn't been at all happy with our attack so as he has said he will utilize the formation to get the best out of his players. One has to give way. And it won't be Di Maria, Rooney or RVP I assure you.

His formation will be based around the players at the club. Mata will not be dropped. Madness.

He never said the formation is the issue, he said it was the passing after the Sunderland match. He said it will take 2-3 months to get them used to the formation, as usual.

You don't drop a top quality player because they were passing a ball too slow. That is something you work on in training. He's massive on player development.

thats more to do with cleverley and fletcher surely

thats the main problem in the team and core to how the team functions

those 2 central midfielders are there to 1. give protection to the centre halves when needed and 2. feed the attackers infront of them and pick out their runs

both cleverly and fletcher are incapable of that and surely now lvg knows this..

with another top central midfielder the difference to the team as a whole will honestly be huge in defence and attack

No way. Do you really think LVG expects Tom Cleverley and Darren Fletcher to push us forward? That's Mata's chief job in the "trequirtista" role and not only was he not doing that he was barely showing for the ball.

id be astonished if lvg didnt expect one of his central midfielders to push the team forward but the point is cleverley and fletcher cant they just arent capable its that simple.. and neither are they capable of finding mata in the final third and the position he picks up because again they are incapable of doing so..

So then why did Mata keep taking up those positions instead of coming deep to get on the ball and influence the game? Silva does that. Hell, nearly every player of Mata's ilk does that. He's a complete passenger every match and he belongs nowhere near a top club.

If Vidal fails, United are getting De Jong, I think.

And a commanding CB is needed. A leader.

Sorted at the back. Two CM needed. Vidal and Blind would have us properly back to our best. Juve owe us that after we basically handed Pogba to them on a plate.

There are literally about 10 midfielders out there which would improve us. It doesn't have to be Vidal, although that would be the dream I guess....

Real's transfer policy is ridiculous. By selling di Maria and getting in Kroos and Rodriguez, they've ripped apart the team that won the Champions League last season, just to make a statement about their ability to buy stars and sell replica shirts as a result. He was the perfect player for their formation and their team - his energy and quality meant that he could basically play as both part of the midfield trio with Alonso and Modric, and as a left winger to cover for Ronaldo, as he constantly cuts inside and basically plays as a second striker.

You have to wonder if Rooney will assume that Ronaldo role. Could work a trick. But LVG will probably opt for Roon in the hole with ADM wide left.

I don't think that Rooney really has the pace and work rate to play out wide anymore, he's no slouch, of course, but nothing like he was in that respect. Stick him up front, or don't bother with him.

doubt he will stick to the 3-5-2 with di maria as the wingback. why would he sign shaw? perhaps if he moves shaw to right back it could work out ok. i'd say a change in formation (4-3-3) is in the cards

I think we swap to a 433 and Mata is rotated depending on fitness of Rooney and RVP UNLESS we get a proper CM/DM to sit in front of the back 4 (yeah I said 4!)

Bojan Krkic has time to impress at Stoke City, says Mark Hughes

Stoke City boss Mark Hughes says new signing Bojan Krkic was put on the bench at Hull for tactical reasons.
The 23-year-old forward joined from Barcelona and played 90 minutes against Aston Villa but was left out on Sunday.
"It was a difficult game, lots of teams go to Hull and struggle to get anything so we thought we needed to be nice and solid in midfield," Hughes explained.
The Spaniard came on in the first half and Hughes said: "He showed glimpses of what he'll give us this year."
Bojan made his debut for Barcelona as a 16-year-old but spent last season on loan at Ajax, scoring four times in 24 appearances for the Dutch club.
He was introduced in the 41st minute of the 1-1 draw at the KC Stadium after an injury to Glenn Whelan.
Although he was brushed aside in the build-up to Nikica Jelavic's goal for Hull, he provided the key cross that led to the equaliser for Ryan Shawcross.
"I was going to make a change in the second half anyway," Hughes added. "We needed to take one of the defensive midfield players off and get Bojan on. It was difficult to find him, we were a little bit out of sorts, but I thought he did okay."

Yeah, I'm not saying he's a hot prospect BUT I think he's worth sitting on until those fixtures pass. He hasn't exactly been awful and has been decent on the pitch (unlike Riviere, Pelle etc.)

Good summing up. Bojan hasn't a hope of playing against City imo..or if he does it will be a mistake..which should see him as a nice 5.0 option afterwards, maybe...

I will but only because my bench will be Marney, Duff & Chester.

I think it's in GW 4 & 5 where he could really shine. I bought him in pre-season with the intention of sticking for 5 matches and I've seen nothing to really make me change my mind.

Had a great volley vs Villa on goal that Vlaar heroically blocked by diving in front of it.

He also set up a great 1 v 1 for Crouch in the last game during a counter attack.
