After kicking off our series of Big Numbers articles with a look at the best performing Defenders over the first three Gameweeks, we now move further up the pitch. This time round we focus on midfielders, with a trio of summer signings all showing plenty of promise in their new surroundings.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    @ Doos, Carrick...

So dat guy Welbz scores one off his shin inadvertently and now he's a poacher ala Shearer?

    Don't make me laugh!

don't think anyone said that. the point i made to you was that his clear cut chance conversion stats are strong and his strike rate per 90 is very strong. he can score when given opportunity. to disagree is like arguing the earth is flat

So he can convert a ball laid to him on a plate from 6 yards out.

        Well wooooop-deeeeee-do.

Let's see how many he scores this season. Then come back and show me your distorted stats.

Thing is, he also has to get in that position - it's a skill in itself to time runs, take up clever positions, etc. That's what generates the tap ins.

his overall strike rate per 90 mins was in the top 5 in the league too. you're in a hole

Alderweireld is far from nailed on. Clyne and Bertrand much better options.
Dummett looks like he lost his place, get another 4m def (Wisdom or Moore?).
Would really want to upgrade Schneiderlin too.

So many humans think they know better than professional managers who get paid a fortune for what they do. They slate tactics and player choices (Welbeck etc...). I love it when they eventually eat humble pie.

Sterling is possibly the most interesting player in the prem..as well as one of the best. No doubt about it BR's only picked him two years ago in desperation...he was only 17. He played well for those few months he was in the side despite only returning us FPLers 2pts a week...and then was largely sidelined. Last season he again improved and rose to be a first team player of choice, or be it rotated a bit. So what's my ramble about ?...Does Sterling prove that giving young English player a start very early in their career play dividends in the long term...maybe we should try it a bit more often...

But Sterling was an exceptional player before he started playing. I knew about Sterling when he was playing in Liverpool's youth team. I understand your point, but he only played because he was good enough. I think we should focus on better coaching at the younger level, rather than squeezing in subpar players at 17 or 18.

I read of several exceptional players at that age...they usually get their break at about 19 or so..not 17...my point is would that two year difference be better for our younger players...I don't know if it is or not but I'm just raising it.

I think your opinion is the opinion of most people, and Jeff Stelling wrote a piece on it last week. I just think England isnt producing players because of poor coaching for kids. How many 17 year olds are good enough to start in the PL? Not many at all. It's tinkering with the end instead of starting with the root. IMO.

He didn't play that well when he first started. All pace and no end product. He has come on leaps and bounds though and now fully deserves his place in the England squad.

As for your question... so will, some won't make it. I still can't believe Clyne didn't start tonight. I don't know what more he has to do.

a lot of those goals from penalties and people thinking Liverpool won't win nearly as many without Suarez.
That's why I ruled him out anyway

          This it is exactly.

I scored massively off Gerrard towards the back end of last season. He shot me up the rankings, but Samh123 is spot on, they were almost all penalties, and without Suarez now, he's on diminishing returns there.

Haha. Well it's because no one expects him to keep up this rate. People think no Suarez = less penos, and he's no longer on every set-piece so those assists will reduce.

Having said that, i have him on my mini league team, and he won me the 1st month.

I thought about Gerrard at the beginning of the season. I think he'll be ok, but in my opinion there's better value in Liverpool's squad...specifically Sterling, which is who I went with.

I just think with Gerrard playing in a more withdrawn position his owners will be relying strictly on penalties and FKs...which is ok, but it's not for me.
