After kicking off our series of Big Numbers articles with a look at the best performing Defenders over the first three Gameweeks, we now move further up the pitch. This time round we focus on midfielders, with a trio of summer signings all showing plenty of promise in their new surroundings.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Liverpool's English players do justice for England. Sterling is great.
By the way, told you guys Welbeck could be a decent buy a 6.9M 😉

Didn't like the way he was so slow to close down that Inler shot in the second half, but overall had an encouraging game.

    Todays price change rant

This is my last post commenting on the lack of price changes. Many think i have been complaining because i have wildcarded and am doing poorly. Fact is im in about 11,000 odd better than most years after three rounds, not normally in top 100k

Reason i dont like the lack of price movement is simply because its boring , nothing to do now midweek. Just wait till saturday then make a transfer, its now no challenge. Deadzone now a shadow of its former self without the excitement of the price change deadline

Fact is less price movements actually help me , i dont take hits, those that do previously gained financially from them , almost making their hits worthwhile now however the hit takers gain no financial reward and will be easier to pick off, especially as most are too incompetent and impatient not to take hits

    Rant over

I think most know your rank atm. I see why you WC'ed but at 11K with no major shift in the fixtures, you probably know you didn't need to. In the old days Rooney would have dropped etc but things have changed. Time to adapt. 🙂

yes, but last week they were dropping and dropping fast, yet as soon as played wildcard THEN they stopped dropping. Didnt know at the time that would happen, although some claim they knew (after the event of course)

            Try and keep up

In truth i dont like wildcards, when you have one there always the temptation to take silly punts knowing you have the card to fall back on. Rather get the thing out the way early

You don't take hits, but wildcard early without any need to. Makes sense.

And if the new pricing system helps you, be happy. Us the ppl will have the pleasure to see another master performance from triggerlips.

Price changes are big part of this game and no price movement makes this game much easier. For example Ramsey isn't included in my wc team and if he starts shooting again its easy to get him again due to lack of price rises.

    B. Nicole Kidman

If you were Mou, would you play you 'half-injured' star striker at home where there's a UCL game in 3 days and instead you can play your backup that is still better than Arsenal's strikers (combined)?

I think Costa will start from the bench, even if he is fit.

Have you seen their group? They could play their D team and still go through. Costa will play PL matches, Remy CL matches.

I'm thinking along these lines too. City next weekend is more important than the CL match. Expect him to play both PL matches.

        • 13 Years
        11 years, 3 months ago

Yeah it's an easy group, not the easiest tbh but Chelsea should go through comfortably.

At current moment though, would you force Costa to play when he can sit out and play against Schalke "fully fit" instead? It's not like Swansea is more difficult than Schalke too.

Would you force Costa to play in mid week with arguably your biggest match of the season over the weekend (away at City)?

Fair point I totally missed the City game.

Then at this point it's really gonna be down to whether he's fully fit or not on Saturday.

I think Mou will be really careful with Costa's injury considering the City game next week.

We had this reasoning last time when there was the chance him missing the match would be a good excuse for him not to be called up to international duty. That ended well for those benching and selling.

I'll start but not captain if I'm not sure. Siggy will come off my bench

Missing a match just to proof your 'injury' to avoid intl duty is a bad reasoning imo.

I just think Mou will be more careful with his injury and play safe with a game vs City next week in mind - not the Schalke one.

With a lack of price movement i believe a 352 now works better than a 343
How so i hear you say

A 352 has eight players that are good, for example Tadic and Naismith. Traditionally that is seen as wasteful as you leave money on the bench as opposed to a 343 for example Ade and Boyd

Previous years if a player was injured you would remove them as the price drops would make holding on a very poor option. Now however it makes sense to simply keep the player until he recovers.

In a 352 this is easy as you can simply play Naismith for example . In a 343 that dosent work, as the 4.5 bench players are useless so there is more pressure to waste a transfer

Having said all this, no doubt next week they will tamper again , and prices will change ten times faster

Not following you old chap. I think it will come down to who the best three strikers are and how much they cost. Just because Naismith is cheap, it doesn't mean owning him forces you into a 3-5-2, as you can play him. If he stops performing later down the line and stops being an attractive asset, no doubt we will need to swap out a midfielder for a cheap 5th mid and invest more up front, possibly for Welbeck

*insert price movement obsession comment here*

This is possible only with Naismith IMO since he is a nailed on cheap striker.

In a way it is somewhat similar with Welbeck + Siggy combo for 3-4-3.

    RMT

    Krul Elliot

Wilson Clyne Robertson Naylor Van aanholt
    Fab Ramsey Sterling Siggi Tadic
    Naismith Rooney Costa

    2m in bank

Have switched to a 352 hybrid for now, as decided against bringing welbeck straight in, the fixtures are not the easiest for him to intefpgrate homself inrpto the team. Instead will hang onto naismith for a bit. Will hang onto Rooney until utd situstion clarifies,
2m in bank allows for someone to Aguero or Naismith to Welbeck in a few weeks.

Benching issues maybe , but good sub if someone dosent play or injured

    Bench.
    This week sig at chelsea
Next week fab at man c. Chelsea will go for 00
    Week after naismith bench

Top team. Lacks Ivanovic, though. Ivanovic allows for Coleman, game week 8. Also I personally am not a fan of Fabregas, on grounds of Value.

Just to throw another idea out there. Why not invest the 2m on a better player somewhere then save a transfer so you have two freebies to change up Naismith and Rooney if necessary?

slight question marks over wilson and robertson long term but probably safe for now.
in theory, after price rises, you only need 1.5 to go from naismith to wlebeck or rooney to aguero, so maybe invest in a scond keeper with good fixtures after kruls fixtures dry out - i'm sure you wlil hate spending a transfer on a keeper.
interesting you chose to stick with ramsey - i have doubts over him in teh next few weeks, thou alternatives dont really scream "take me" (lamela? lallana? meh.)

I have doubts ove him too, but as most rivals keeping him may as well hang on too, like you say only one i wanted was tadic and i got him anyway.

Actuallt i really like this team. Have contemplated spending an extra half mil on def or keeper, may yet do, but i think i need 2 m for welbeck as dont get full price when selling naismith, but i might make some money on the wildcard yet, you never know

Moreno/Janmaat in for one of the 4.5s would be nice.

I prefer Mirallas to Tadic as well. Everton scoring way more than Southampton ATM, 0.1 cheaper, Mirallas looks better for goals, and he's actually scored a goal this season so far.

        MAN UTD NEWS

Ander Herrera will be available for Manchester United game against QPR

        --

Phil Jones suffers suspected hamstring injury on international duty with England

There is no confirmation on the extent of Jones’ injury and the 22-year-old will undergo a scan today to check the severity of his injury.

Jones has suffered a long list of injuries in his short time as a United player which has stopped him from really fulfilling his potential, so hopefully his withdrawal against Switzerland was nothing more than a precaution.

I do agree I think they'll be ok defensively, but it's burnley.. it's a puddle in lancashire

I have Krul/Foster but would prefer Krul/Elliott.. Can see myself playing Krul most weeks.

Yes. It's what the majority have. Your GK isn't going to surge you up the rankings. The extra 0.5 to spend on a mid/striker however, might.

Dont get this love for Krul/Eliot - what exactly suggests the newcastle defence is better than any other burnley/qpr/sunderland/leicester/etc ?

          I'm happy with Mignolet -- 4m keeper

I dont understand that choice. Especially when Liverpool have good defensive options at the same price.

Compare with the Chelsea keeper who is at least the cheapest nailed on member of the defence

I have Manone and Krul. Decent Rotation for 9m.

Yeah, a finer moment in my many moments of idiocy. Aaaaanyway, check this mother out:

            Courtois

            Ivan / Lovren / Williams
            Siggy / Ramsey / Fabs / Chadli
            Aguero / Balotelli / Welbeck

Your mum / Moore / Wisdom / Albrighton

              Not Courtois/Your Mum. Begovic/Green.
Better value than Lovren to be had, imo. Fonte, Clyne or Shawcross.
I would never have Fabregas, Chadli and Albrighton in the same midfield - you need Sterling, imo.
