Our weekly analysis of the Captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

A four-goal blitz against Tottenham last time around has ensured Sergio Aguero is this week’s runaway leader, with almost 50% of the votes cast. Up to nine goals for the season, the Man City forward has netted in six of his eight appearances so far, and up against a West Ham side with a single shut-out all season (at home to QPR), Aguero has already risen 0.2 in price heading into the weekend deadline.

Graziano Pelle is some way back in second spot. The Southampton striker has earned just under 16% of votes cast as he prepares for the visit of Stoke – bearing in mind his last three appearances at St Mary’s have returned 13, 9 and 15 points in the FPL game, though, the Italian looks a viable option. Team-mate Dusan Tadic earns 4% of votes after serving up a goal and four assists at home to Sunderland – the playmaker has now produced 34 points in the last three in front of his own supporters.

Diego Costa remains in contention for the league leaders’ trip to Old Trafford. Only 4% are considering the Chelsea forward with the armband due to Jose Mourinho’s mind games, but if given the chance against United’s dodgy defence, he has to be considered, having netted in all but one of his seven appearances.

Raheem Sterling is an armband option for some as Liverpool prepare for a home clash with Hull. Having scored or assisted in five of his seven starts, the youngster has remained a consistent option – after moving to the lone forward role against Real Madrid in midweek, he’s persuaded 3% of Fantasy managers to hand him the captaincy. Gylfi Sigurdsson is similarly backed for Swansea’s home encounter with Leicester, though is struggling for form, having blanked in four of the last five.

Further down, Arsenal and Spurs are overlooked ahead of enticing showdowns with Sunderland and Newcastle. Danny Welbeck (3% of votes) and Alexis Sanchez (1%) face a Black Cats backline that shipped eight to Southampton last weekend, whilst Christian Eriksen (1%) and Nacer Chadli (0.8%) will be looking to take advantage of a Magpies defence that have kept out their opponents just once in the last six.

    Best transfer to fund Costa

I am in the same situation. Downgrade ivan to get Kun. Nobody stands out though. Already got Baines and Clyne. I might just go super cheap and rotate one of Hutton and Wisdom every week.

Been quiet around here, his name has hardly been mentioned...

Probably a spilt tbh, people getting more twitchy now as the weekend gets closer. My feeling is if he has had a stomach bug and only just been released from hospital he is unlikely to be played, maybe on the bench. He could overcome groin/hamstring issues but if he has been unable to eat or keep food down for a few days he will be drained of energy

Agree with you; nowadays professional footballers have strict training and diet regimes and are monitored constantly.

He's just got out of hospital and people are taking about Jose playing mind games! Even if he is declared technically fit is he going to be sharp enough to make any impact?

I've shipped him out for Sergio who joins Welbeck (Burnley, H) and Pelle (Stoke, H)

Anyone who has had gastro or equivalent knows what he is feeling like. In my case I sold for Berainho (3GW short term) on the basis/guess that if he will drop by 0.1 more by the GW, then if he does not start against United he will likely drop next gameweek by at least 0.1 (despite playing QPR), meaning it would cost me 10.9 to buy back. That will take me up to the international break and who knows what will happen then with him.

Going to emotionally hedge and back Costa as anytime goalscorer this weekend mind you

As mentioned on the previous page, I can't face the idea of selling Costa

If he's fit and Mourinho is messing around, and he then starts and scores a double, I'll top myself

This is an emotional sport, it's important to stay on top of the mental game, in charge of your own faculties, I'll sacrifice a few points this week (maybe) in order to stay sane.

I also think Costa will start but let's face it. It's a guess

I disagree (in a friendly way) Chelsea will bore the game up at OT, probs a 1-0 win. Keep azpi

    Predicted Price Changes Tonight:

    FFF:
    + Pelle
    - Costa, Wood, Dier, Ward

    FPLS:
+ Hamer, Forster, Rose, Wilson, Kaboul (All 99%, Pelle at 97%)
    - Dier, Skrtel, Distin, Baird, Costa, Zabaleta

The other two sites are a bit of a waste of time, if you ask me.

I'm going to laugh so hard when Costa is declared fit to play, making everyone keep him, only for him to start on the bench... and then coming on in the 2nd half to get sent off after fighting with Marcos Rojo.

As Hodgson would say, that would be utopia 😀

I'd like that. The emotional rollercoaster would be traumatic though.

1 point for featuring, then -3 for a straight red, so Costa(c) would be -4 😀 .... while Aguero gets another hatty and 17x2 points 😀

Just wondering what you make of Alex Song so far? Would he be a good shout to get carded vs City? Does he foul/tackle much e.t.c? Cheers

He has been wonderful. No, he is quite organised. Does a lot of tackling though ...

What to do? Used my FT to bring Baines in.

    A. Stick
    B. Costa -> Aguero, Eriksen -> Di Maria

    1. Baines (c)
    2. Pelle (c)
    3. Aguero (c) [if B above]

    Krul -Foster
    Clyne - Wisdom - Coloccini - Bertrand - Baines
Sterling - Fabregas - Marney - Di Maria - Sigurdsson
    Welbeck - Costa - Pelle

      So -8?

I'm really not feeling the idea of selling ADM. Check that 'Sunday PPG'. 😉

I wouldn't be too 🙁 about it though. I see the Costa in/out debate as pretty 50/50, with QPR next.

    Costa to Luk or Berahino?
If I go for Bera then I could do Siggy to Haz next if things remain the same with Costa or just get back Costa

I am still undecided on Costa but I swaying on getting rid.

Pelle and Baines could get me just as many points as Moreno and Costa and with Pelle up and Costa down tonight getting back to Costa is only going to cost me .2.

Obviously if he is fit and plays on Sunday it is waste of a transfer to get him back in but on the flipside keeping him in means 11mil on the bench and more lost value if have to sell.

0.2 is a small price to pay in order to have a 100% nailed on 11-12m captained striker this weekend.

Pros and cons of holding onto Costa?

    1. Polqa
      • 11 Years
      11 years, 1 month ago

Pros of selling.. Its only a 0.3 hit if needed to bring back. He is 50% doubt, Jose might wait for him to fully recover, both Hazard and Remy looks sharp, so no need to risk him.

holding.. You never know with Jose and Costa is a beast, he can play with broken bones if needed!

What do you prefer with 2FT?

    A. ADM + PvA --> Tadic + Baines
    B. Costa + PvA --> Welbeck + Baines
    C. Costa --> Welbeck and keep money ITB to get Costa back for QPR

Diego Costa having QPR next week is the only thing stopping me from shipping him, he'll probably start(60 mins) if he doesn't this weekend, then rested/cameo against Maribor in midweek and near full fitness for Anfield.

For those scared of doing Costa>Aguero, Man City play QPR the week after Chelsea. And Aguero could destroy QPR with his pace.
