Our weekly analysis of the Captaincy contenders arrives once again this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Under normal circumstances, Diego Costa would be the runaway leader in this week’s Captain Poll but, as we know, things are not quite straightforward when it comes to Jose Mourinho. Nonetheless, having returned to training yesterday, faith in the Chelsea striker is building and he leads the way ahead of a plum home clash with a QPR defence that have shipped at least two goals in all four of their road trips. After scoring in each of his four home appearances, Costa leads the way with 29% of the votes cast so far.

Elsewhere for Chelsea, Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas have earned 9% and 6% of the votes cast. The latter has been the most consistent, with a goal or assist in seven of his nine appearances, though Hazard delivered a double-figure haul in his previous match at the Bridge and has spot-kick duties to fall back on.

Alexis Sanchez sits in second as Arsenal prepare for the visit of Burnley. Subject to huge investment this week after taking his tally to five goals in his last six appearances with a brace against Sunderland, the Chilean has been backed by 20% heading into the weekend. Over 5% have opted for Danny Welbeck, though his form is a little disconcerting – he’s picked up points in only two of his six appearances since arriving in north London.

In third spot, Sergio Aguero remains firmly in our thoughts in spite of a surprise blank against West Ham. Up against a United defence that have picked up just three points on their travels, the Argentine has persuaded over 14% to hand him the armband – although his four-goal haul against Spurs is fresh in the memory, Aguero has stuttered at the Etihad and has scored in only two of his four home matches.

Further down, the likes of Graziano Pelle and Raheem Sterling are still in contention ahead of trips to Hull and Newcastle. Pelle has picked up points in six of his previous seven now and stands atop the Fantasy Premier League standings on 59 points, though the Tigers have tightened up since reverting to a three-man backline and have kept out their opponents in two of their last three. Sterling, with just two assists in the previous four, will be optimistic of returning to form against a Magpies backline with a single shut-out in seven.

Krul - home to a Liverpool team struggling for goals, and on the back of a clean sheet at Man City
    Or
Foster - away to Leicester, also struggling for goals

Liverpool have to win, they lost too many points this season, so I think they will score atleast once. Leicester is very good at home, though.

Liverpool look fairly ordinary going forward, balotelli and sterling are not working, and they have no other ideas, not dangerous at set plays either.

Trouble is west brom can't defend, to be honest I fancy both Liverpool and Leicester to score so don't know what I'm worrying about

Sorry for repost but lost at bottom of last page and heading out in 10 mins...

Need to lose Naismith I think with him moved to the wing and maybe place in starting 11 threatened with others gaining fitness.

    A
Thinking Naismith and Zaha (punt that didn't work) to Berahino and Boyd (-4 but need to do Zaha to Boyd to free up money)
Does this sound good? Saw someone saying Zaha might be a decent pick but I don't see it.

    OR

    B
Noticed I could do Naismith and Clyne (whose fixtures get tricky soon) for Berahino and Chambers?

A, B or other please. Advice greatly appreciated.

    Bego -> Adrian?

    Bego / 4.0
    Baines / Berty / Clyne / Moore / Duff

    Costa / Aguero / Welbeck

Anything else look suspect? Thanks 🙂

Repost - bottomed out on the last page:

Looking for some help here and happy to return the favour for your team

    0.5 ITB, 1FT

    A) Hutton -> Alcaraz (keeps my team in good shape for the GW)
    B) Fab -> Hazard (A little punty, but expecting a Hazard explosion going fwd)
    C) Other (anything else you'd suggest)
    D) Save

    GP:Guzan (Given)
DEF: Chambers / Wisdom / Hutton (Dummett, Duff)
MID: ADM / Fab / Sanchez / Chadli (Obertan)
FWD: Aguero / Costa / Pelle

Does this boost Milner's chances of starting? Or will they go back to 2 up front?

Milner able to start in either, but Silva being out is definitely good news for him.

I would have hoped they would do 1 up front but with Silva out I doubt that will be the case?

Yeah, could be right. No idea how they'll set up, could even be Jovetic behind Aguero

ADM (c) is so tempting with all the Costa, Hazard, Sanchez love...

Don't think silva out is gonna make adm any better a pick. Worse if anything

I can see Man U getting control in midfield with ADM and either Rooney or Fellaini. Toure is not good enough so far and Silva is the best to keep the ball and create chances. If i make a mistake, i ll have big drop in rankings i know, but have 4-5 possible captains so have to find a reason to choose one...

    Guys,
What do you reckon for this team?

    Foster
    Baines Ivan Bertrand
    ADM Sterling Siggy Tadic
    Costa (c) Pelle Welbeck

    Schmeichel boyd duff hutton

Have 2ft and 1.2 in the bank but not sure if I want to do anything....

Great position to be in. Lots are doing ADM out for Sanchez and if I had 2ft I would consider it (get him back next week). Don't need to do anything.

Nice team, nothing you really need to do, as you have 2FT anyway might want to look at options for duff, or Hutton, both on the slide I feel

I feel Siggy has to come good at some point soon, not convinced it'll happen against Everton though. Don't fancy Diame against Southampton either though. Not much help I guess mate

Struggling to log into fantasy football fix tonight to check price changes.
TotalFPL and FISO don't appear hot this season.

Are there any notable changes tonight?

Fixtures are good enough for me to give him at least 2 weeks
      Unless he plunges in price..

I have Haz, Sanchez, Costa, Aguero. Would need to ditch Baines for ADM in there too. Not doing that.

Excellent..and agreed on your choice of the five deserving.

I'm never too sure about the "Watchlist" on here by defenition, to me it just looks like a reshuffle of the top picks in the right order/ish. In terms of an actual "Watchlist" those five are worth watching for developments...good article...proper "Watchlist"...
