Our Monday regular is rolled out again this afternoon, as we scour the Premier League treatment rooms to assess those players who picked up injuries over the weekend action.

Arsenal
Jack Wilshere has been ruled out of Arsenal’s midweek Champions League clash with Anderlecht due to illness, Arsene Wenger confirmed earlier today.

Everton
Antolin Alcaraz is set to be sidelined for an extended period of time after he was forced off early on during the weekend goalless draw with Swansea. After the match, Roberto Martinez went on to say:

“He has damaged the joint in his shoulder. We’ll assess it but he could be out for a long spell. We’ll help Antolin all we can and try to help him back before the second half of the season.”

Hull
Centre-half Alex Bruce missed the Tigers’ 1-0 home defat at the hands of Southampton with a hamstring injury. Earlier today, Steve Bruce rolled out an update on the defender’s likely period of absence:

“Alex got injured in training on Friday, one of the last kicks of the session. It’s a hamstring but we don’t think it’s too serious. It’s probably going to be two, three or four weeks.”

Leicester
Leonardo Ulloa was utilised as a sub as the Foxes suffered their first home loss of the season against West Brom on Saturday. After the 1-0 defeat, Nigel Pearson explained his reasons for benching the Argentine:

“He had a groin problem, which we had scanned last Sunday. It was a case of not really wanting to risk him from the start today. I don’t see that as being anything negative. He was on the bench and had no problems afterwards. It wasn’t worth the risk to start him.”

Manchester City
Eliaquim Mangala missed yesterday’s Manchester derby due to a hip injury, according to reports in the local press. Aleksandar Kolarov was originally named in Manuel Pellegrini’s starting XI but picked up a problem during the warm-up and was replaced by Gael Clichy.

Manchester United
Rafael was absent from the Etihad showdown after picking up an injury in training, United’s official twitter account has confirmed.

Marcos Rojo looks set for a stint on the sidelines after being stretchered off with a shoulder injury midway through the second period. After the match, Louis van Gaal admitted:

“”His shoulder is out. We don’t know how long that will take. I have to wait until Monday. But he shall not play against Crystal Palace, I don’t think.”

Newcastle
Gabriel Obertan could be set for a spell on the sidelines after being stretchered off with a thigh injury against Liverpool on Saturday afternoon. After the 1-0 win, Alan Pardew admitted he fears the worst:

“The only real big problem we had was losing Obertan which was a big blow as he’s been outstanding. It looks like he’s got a bad injury and we’re all really disappointed for him.”

Pardew also revealed he withdrew Papiss Cisse at the break as he reckoned the striker was still suffering the effects of a recent injury:

“I just felt that Papiss wasn’t moving quite normally. He has got this irritation on his knee – he thought he was OK, I slightly disagreed with him and we’ll probably still disagree on that, but only in the right possible way.”

West Brom
The Baggies left-back Sebastien Pocognoli was subbed off towards the ends of the weekend win at Leicester through injury.

West Ham
Winston Reid was forced off early with a thigh problem during the weekend draw at Stoke, though Sam Allardyce confirmed post-match that the injury “wasn’t too serious”.

    Mannone > Heaton is the move, right? Especially if you have Gilks as your 4.0.

    Next 5 are HUL, sto, AVL, NEW, qpr

    Begovic / Gilks
    Baines, Clyne, Chester / Wisdom, Caulker
    Fabregas, Sterling, Sigurdsson, Chadli / Davis
    Aguero, Costa, Pelle

    2 FT, 0.0 ITB

    I think i need some Man Utd. coverage (Di Maria/Rooney) for the next weeks.

    A Sterling + Fabregas ---> Di Maria + Downing
    B Sterling + Sigurdsson or Chadli + Costa ---> Di Maria + Sanchez + Kane (-4)
    C Sterling + Fabregas + Costa ---> Di Maria + Sanchez + Sakho/Valencia (-4) (without Chelsea...)
    D Baines + Sterling ---> 5.5 Defender + Di Maria

    Main rivals has krul coming in for mannone . This gameweek just keeps giving to some. How people can play a sunderland defensive player at the moment ahead of foster or krul is crazy really.

      Because at the start of the season Krul Mannone was the best and cheapest rotation and Mannone had a better fixture on paper this week

        Wudnt agree with that. Sunderland away and newcastle at ahome. I follow liverpool and knew we would seriously struggle to score.

        Sunderland leaking goals all over the place and tricky away game there for them tonight.

          Seriously you expected Liverpool not to score? Tbh I wasn't expecting a clean sheet from either this week so just went with the one who i felt had the better fixture - Mannone.

          Luckily it's worked out.

    Is Baines a must now?

    I was dead set against a premium defender couple weeks back. But I'm beginning to think you need one. Baines or Ivanovic.

    My reason was it only takes one goal conceded and you are relying on attacking returns from the premium defender to bail you out. If they don't get those attacking returns and the defence concedes just one goal, they can be scoring the same as low priced defenders. When that happens, their price is actually a lie. However, I do think its unfair that all defenders in a team that has conceded get punished. The player you own might have played brilliant in that game and been at no fault on the goal. But they will still lose points. However, having seen how much of a threat Baines is this season, I either take it on the chin and just get him in, or bite my fingernails every GW.

    Is he a must?

        Its not just the set-pieces that are bothering me. He is playing as a left-winger basically and is putting great balls into the box.

          yes I agree. Baines,Coleman and Clyne is my starting defence all get forward like wingers. Baines out of the 3 is the best tho because of set pieces.

          If you view Baines as a midfielder then you will not be too disappointed when Everton concede and he will get 4 points for a clean sheet compared to a similar priced midfielder ( Tadic) who will only get 1 point for a CS.

    Damn it Mannone. Knew you weren't going to start but didnt want to take a -4 for a keeper. AS it happened it would have been for Foster who got 10 points...annoying.

    Other move i didnt make cos i didnt want to take a hit? Siggy -> Chadli. Now i can't afford him. Wicked.

      yea but has gone off the boil. He needs confidence to perform and he lacks that. I was at the game on Saturday and at one stage he was through on goal. First gameweeks of the season he would have taken the goalie on and scored. On Saturday he held it up and gave it to Eto'o...

      Viable but there are better, Vardy and Kane for example

        They were struggling against Apoel + there are Neymar and Suaraz who will be more forward than Messi, don't you think ? I don't think Messi will get more than 1 goal or 1 assist per match and that's not enough for 13m

              No you won't. There is an early game in Russia tomorrow so you will not have lineups before they lock.

    I'm trying to create a customized season tracker and I would really appriciate your input.

    I feel that this early in the season, the points or the FFS ticker do not reflect a team's true form. For example Newcastle had a rough start, but they're not a pushover by any means and IMO West Ham is not a top 5 team, no matter how many points they have now.

    So please give me your input, how would you rate the teams.

    Tier 1&2 - horrendous fixtures, stay away
    Tier 3&4 - difficult fixtures, decent if you play at home
    Tier 5&6 - decent fixtures, good if you play at home
    Tier 7 - always juicy fixtures

    1. Chelsea, City
    2. Arsenal
    3. Southampton, ManU, Liverpool, Everton
    4. Spurs, West Ham, Newcastle
    5. Villa, Stoke, Swansea, WBA
    6. Crystal Palace, Hull
    7. Burnley, QPR, Leicester, Sunderland

    Is this close to reality? What would you change?

      I think it really depends on the rotation Who is your second goalie? If non-playing, I would go either
      - Krul, Newcastle is on fire (beat Spurs, City and Liverpool in a row) OR
      - Guzan kindest schedule (in addition to Mignolet and Hart) untill the Jan WC

          Yeah, you have a point.

          I guess it's how long you look ahead and when you plan to WC in January. Heaton is good for the next 5, but then it's SOU, tot, LIV, mcy, new for the next 5 and then paradise in January. Guzan beats him forschedule if you WC early in Jan, but if you WC late, Heaton is actually a great choice.
