Alexis Sanchez scores yet again as Arsenal let a three-goal advantage slip at home to Anderlecht. Brendan Rodgers makes a number of changes as Liverpool lose narrowly to Real Madrid. Diafra Sakho is set to return for West Ham’s home clash with Villa and Aleksandar Kolarov is set for a spell on the sidelines with a calf complaint.

Sanchez Strikes Again in Gunners Draw

Arsene Wenger made two changes to the side that faced Burnley at the weekend for the Champions League clash with Anderlecht last night, as Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain both earned starts. The latter, along with Mikel Arteta and Alexis Sanchez, helped his side move 3-0 ahead, before the Gunners blew their lead to end up drawing 3-3 with the Belgian club.

The Scout Says: Though last night’s events may have dented the confidence of Wenger’s side, and raised question marks over their resilience against tougher opponents, they did at least exhibit the sort of attacking flair in the first 60 minutes that will fill owners of their offensive assets with plenty of confidence ahead of the weekend trip to Swansea. Sanchez has now notched 11 goals in his last 13 appearances, and has already acquired 170,000 new owners since his brace against Burnley last Saturday. Danny Welbeck, meanwhile, earned an assist last night, and having been withdrawn with ten minutes to go at the Emirates, continues to look nailed on for starts until the return of Olivier Giroud, at least. Now available for 7.4 in the Fantasy Premier League game (FPL), the former United forward continues to look a viable prospect for our frontlines, albeit at a far less explosive level than his in-form strike partner.

RODGERS RINGS THE CHANGES IN REAL LOSS

Brendan Rodgers made numerous changes to his starting line-up for last night’s Champions League showdown with Real Madrid. The likes of Kolo Toure, Lazar Markovic and Fabio Borini were all handed starts at the Bernabeu, and, despite a valiant effort in defence, Liverpool slipped to a 1-0 defeat , leaving them on just three points from four outings in Europe.

Post-match, Rodgers confirmed that the plethora of changes was due to his normal first-choice side’s recent lack of form:

“The Newcastle game we lost and we were disappointed with the result and the performance. We might have lost 5-0 if we started with those players. We are not a team on the back of five or six wins and my selection is made easy because of performance. Anything but that and there are so many positives from tonight.”

The Scout Says: Many may have viewed last night’s teamsheet as an indicator that Rodgers is prioritising his side’s efforts in the Premier League over their European commitments, though the Anfield boss moved quickly to deny such allegations. Indeed, it now looks like a number of places in the starting XI are up for grabs when Liverpool face Chelsea this weekend, and although the likes of Steven Gerrard and Raheem Sterling will surely return to the side against the table-toppers, it’s clear that Rodgers won’t be taking any prisoners from here on in –a scenario that may well place further question marks over his starting line-ups across all competitions.

SAKHO SET FOR WEEKEND RETURN

West Ham have confirmed that striker Diafra Sakho will be back from a shoulder injury for their encounter with Aston Villa this weekend.

The Scout Says: The former Metz forward has tallied a sensational 48 points across his six starts for the Hammers, though continues to fly under the radar with an ownership of just 5.5% in FPL. His absence last weekend allowed strike partner Enner Valencia to step in and take the plaudits with a goal and an assist against Stoke, and Sakho will now be eager to reaffirm his position as the forward option of choice in Sam Allardyce’s side. With a price tag still of just 5.8, the Senegal international is sure to rise in value if he can now take full advantage of his great fixture list (AVL, eve, NEW, wba, SWA, sun) and perhaps even begin to challenge the likes of Sergio Aguero and Graziano Pelle at the zenith of the FPL forward standings.

YACOB IN LINE FOR BAGGIES START

Alan Irvine has revealed that he is likely to play Claudio Yacob in place of the suspended Craig Gardner when his West Brom side take on Newcastle this weekend.

The Scout Says: Having only made three appearances from the bench so far this season, Sunday’s clash with Newcastle will represent a huge opportunity for Yacob to secure himself more minutes across the rest of the campaign. The knock-on effect of the Argentine’s selection should also mean that Chris Brunt continues on the flank against the Magpies. The 5.4 priced midfielder has earned an assist in each of his last three home appearances and will be tasked with providing the creative threat from the left once again this weekend – with an ownership below 1%, Brunt looks an intriguing differential option for those looking to free up budget to get the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Sergio Aguero in elsewhere.

KOLAROV ABSENCE CONFIRMED

Manuel Pellegrini has disclosed that left back Aleksandar Kolarov will be out of action for a month with the calf injury he sustained during the warm-up prior to the Manchester derby last weekend.

The Scout Says: Kolarov’s injury blow does at least provide Fantasy managers with some more assuredness over City’s starting backline. Up until now, only Vincent Kompany has started every league match, and thus has looked the only viable option in their rearguard, despite his hefty 6.5 price tag. However, with Kolarov sidelined, Gael Clichy now blinks onto our radars – the Frenchman is available for 5.3, and has earned maximum bonus points on the two occasions he has earned a clean sheet. The former Arsenal man now looks assured of starts over the next month, and with City facing a superb schedule in that time (qpr, SWA, sou, sun), could be set to reap the benefits of Kolarov’s absence.

How much time, if any, will you give your Soton defenders? They have alright games in between the 2 sets of 3 reds

      I just have 1 - Clyne. If I had 2, I would drop one.

The fullbacks are still decent value and key to the Southampton attack, could still get attacking points.

Posted about this during the Arsenal game, but thought I'd see what people's views were?

Why is football so far behind other sports in terms of technology? In 2014, why is there no form of referral system in place to eradicate officials' howlers, like seen in cricket or tennis?

How hard is it for the 4th official to watch an incident on a screen and tell the referee if someone is offside or if a foul has been committed? It would take 1-2 mins, most of which is taken up anyway by players crowding officials and complaining about decisions. And surely getting the correct verdict is much more important than avoiding a small delay to the game?

Arsenal didn't win last night due to a shocking decision (yes they defended awfully but it's not why they drew). Referees and linesmen are human, they will make mistakes and therefore what's wrong with giving them support in order to ensure that the deserving side wins?

A 1-2 minute delay, do you really think it would make much difference? As said above, there's normally about that wasted when players crowd officials anyway.

Yep, that's similar to what is used in tennis and cricket.

1-2 challenges per game, and then people don't waste them spuriously. If you are right, you keep it, if you are wrong, you lose it.

It's possible after a goal, though. The game has stopped while the players go off and do a little dance. it would be quite easy for the 4th official to let the ref know that something may be up before the restart and the goal could be 'under review' at that point. I think that reviewing the goal provides additional entertainment for the fans (at least, it seems to for other sports) so doesn't ruin the spectacle. And the final decision, whatever it is, would usually be correct.

Exactly, in other sports people get excited by the tension of the review system, adds to the spectacle.

yep as long as its not too long, i watch nba & they take forever with theirs & it's a massive turn off, with sports like tennis & rugby it's done in seconds so it doesnt impact the flow much at all

the flow of hte game? lol dont make me laugh, the amount of time players spend arguing with refs when a decision doesnt go their way could be spent leaving it to the fourth official to get it righ via technology, it takes 10 secs. you see it it rugby aswell & it works fine.

If football used technology to ensure the correct decisions then what would the players, managers, fans, pundits, newspaper, radio stations etc. talk about? It increases interest and therefore income in football. Plus the decisions usually favour the bigger teams so the majority are happier

Hey lads, first time poster. Like long walks on the beach and vainly praying for a day when Arsenal's solution to DM isn't Flamini.

    Forster
    Clyne, Baines, Chambers
    Siggy, Fabregas, Sanchez(VC), Barkley
    Costa, Welbeck, Pelle (C)

Foster, Taylor, Boyd, Duff. 1 FT, $1.4 in the bank. Feels incomplete without Aguero, but can't see any way to maneuver him in, at least in the short term.

    Xfers this week:
A - Siggy > Downing. Frees cash and brings in an in-form player.
B - Dat guy > Sakho. Same deal as above.
C - Hold and gain another transfer for after the international break.

    Thoughts?

That's certainly true - he's a fragile thing, though so is Costa. Can't see myself having a balanced team with both Kun and Costa at the same time, so I'll evaluate after the break too. Leaning towards C also, I think. Cheers for the replies!

I'm doing okay - just 3 points behind you in fact 🙂

Removed my link cos found out one of my rivals is lurking on the site. Was wondering how the sonofacasual was doing so well this season

and yeah. it's a tough decision

Aguero has pens, on form, getting chances and most in top 10k will captain him. safe pick.

But QPR on the up, small stadium, not the best record vs QPR at Loftus road. last time i captained him at Loftus Road got a big fat blank, 0-0.

Pelle - spectacular home form, Leicester gives away chances like no other. But he's super wasteful and not the most clinical of strikers, could easily blank despite playing well.

you have just made my captain decision that much harder... to the coin! Worked a treat last week haha

3 points behind.. aaah man, my main concern is my cash league.

might consider taking my team link off too..

Yea was perfectly happy with team linked but yea, more concerned with cash league. It's a pain, everyone's on the ball this season.

Pretty sure the tie ups FPL has with FFScout on the FPL site is causing that.

Especially recommending getting Chambers in last week! HALF my ML of 35 players got Chambers in!!! Fuming...

Pelle will outscore Sanchez this week imo, definitely doesn't warrant a hit.

    Gameweek 12 - 21:

Pelle + Clyne OR Sakho + Ivanovic??

Thinking of getting Sakho and Iva for a hit next gameweek! But I fear Iva will get a big haul against liverpool.

B but I'd rather have Azpi and bank the cash if you want a Chelsea defender.

Does Azpi have so much attacking potential in him?

Yeap I feel like I've lagged behind in the past few weeks due to my decision to not be proactive 3 GWs ago where I was debating getting either Baines/Tadic in (THAT week) or the alternative was Chambers + Sanchez. In the end I made a defensive transfer.

No but I feel like I'm possibly teetering on the edge of one. Costa will rifle in a hat trick and it'll end in tears.

When I feel like that I look at the season ticker two weeks in advance - sort by best fixtures over the next four and then get players from those teams in early. I did that with Tadic and Pelle and the same with Downing.

Its an easy spiral to get out of with a bit of fixture spotting. Frisking the Fixtures - Strong is the key article for you.
