Leicester boss Nigel Pearson made a statement of intent earlier this month by acquiring the highly rated Andrej Kramaric from Croatian club HNK Rijeka. The 23-year-old becomes the Foxes club record signing for a fee believed to be around £9.7m and, according to his new manager, has been on Leicester’s radar for some time:

“We’ve watched Andrej for a long time so we knew we were signing a player that could add great quality to English football and I’m delighted that the relevant authorities have seen the situation the same way. He’s an extremely talented young footballer and I’m delighted we’ve been able to finalise his signing. He is potentially a very important addition for us.”

The transfer is regarded as something of a coup for the King Power outfit, with a number of Europe’s leading sides – including Chelsea and Juventus – previously interested in the striker’s services. Indeed, Kramaric’s decision to sign for Leicester has already caused something of a domestic – the player has gone against his father’s wishes to choose the Foxes over Jose Mourinho’s side, with his agent showing little sign for diplomacy by explaining:

“If he chooses Chelsea, Kramaric won’t ever set foot on the Stamford Bridge pitch. All that ‘glitter’ lasts two or three days. It’s true that Leicester doesn’t sound that attractive, but the 19 games for such a player is a real opportunity to showcase his talent. Prove yourself  you either got it or you don’t.”

The History

Snapped up by hometown team Dinamo Zagreb at the age of six, Kramaric became the club’s record goalscorer at youth level (netting over 450 times) before making his debut for the senior side as a 17-year-old in 2009. The frontman was unable to replicate his heroics at a higher level, however, and after failing to nail down a regular role, he managed just 11 goals and five assists in 52 appearances across all competitions for Dinamo.

A loan spell at Lokomotiv Zagreb saw him rack up 20 goals and 10 assists in 45 outings over a season and a half before returning to his parent club for the start of the 2013/14 campaign. Kramaric immediately fell down the pecking order again, though, and after complaining to the press over a lack of pitch time, he was transfer listed and subsequently snapped up by HNK prior to the closure of the transfer window. The 23-year-old made an instant impact at his new club, racking up 27 goals and four assists in 34 outings and helping HNK clinch the Croatian Cup.

Kramaric continued his clinical form into the current campaign. Steering HNK to the Croatian Super Cup at former club Dinamo’s expense, he racked up 28 goals and four assists in 30 matches, with an impressive six goals in eight appearances in the Europa League (including a hat-trick against Feyenoord) highlighting his ability to produce at a higher level. The Foxes new boy has turned out on 53 occasions at youth level for his country, scoring 22 times, and has netted twice in four outings for the Croatia senior side.

The Prospects

Standing five foot eleven, Kramaric is more of a second striker rather than a physical, target man type. Compared to Croatian legend Davor Suker by national manager Niko Kovac, the Leicester new boy is a technically capable player who tends to drop deep or shift into the channels to find space and time his runs into the opposition box.

The player himself reckons his style is “something between Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski” and it was noticeable that, in his first start for the club, he was paired with Leonardo Ulloa up top in Saturday’s cup win at Spurs. Pearson clearly sees the Argentine as the ideal foil for his new striker  with Ulloa’s strength and aerial ability spearheading the Foxes attack, Kramaric will be afforded the chance to play off the South American and look for space between the lines.

Pearson has flirted with a number of tactical set-ups this term but a 4-4-1-1 now looks the likeliest scenario in order to accommodate the new boy. This looks ominous for players such as David Nugent and Jamie Vardy, with Jeffrey Schlupp and Riyad Mahrez – once he’s back from the Africa Cup of Nations – set to be tasked with supplying the creativity from out wide.

Given that Ulloa remains the club’s top scorer, despite scoring in the league just twice since Gameweek 5, it’s clear the Foxes need more firepower to bolster their chances of survival. Kramaric – at just 5.5 in the Fantasy Premier League game – will be desperate to continue his progress as a goal-getter of some repute, but with a horrendous run of fixtures to follow (mun, CPL, ars, eve, CHE, mcy), few will be willing to gamble until the schedule smiles far more kindly on Pearson’s side from Gameweek 29 onwards.

Yeah I see so many with bellerin but 16m chambers is the front runner imo. I mean if you can't give the kid experience now with Debuchy out when can you? It's not like they will win the league or anything and they are pretty much nailed for top 4 as long as koscielny stays fit (maybe this might not even be as big an issue with the new cb too?)

I am going for Bellerin. He will be my fifth defender as the rest of mine look to be nailed so I think it well worth the risk with their fixtures. Worst case he doesn't play enough and I just transfer him out. High reward with minimal risk for me.

Yep - I've opted for Wisdom there 🙂 Think having a piece of WBA defense to rotate for the rest of the season is too important to gamble on Baird. Although, of course, you can always rectify any errors with future transfers.

The Arsenal fans seem to want Bellerin. Chambers makes a lot of mistakes. Arsenal have improved since Bellerin got in the team. I don't see the logic in thinking Chambers will be back until Bellerin error.

Wenger said chambers needed a break. He got one and looks fit and ready to resume where he left off again.

Chambers is a better player with more experience so by default is first choice imo.

The cs had more to do with a Def mid and Koscielny starting than bellerin at rb over chambers. I can't see how Wenger will start bellerin over him on a regular basis. Maybe it will end up like gibbs monreal on the other side?

I have to say, Chambers has looked extremely poor as a right back every single game I've seen him play when he has faced a good winger. I understand people may say that he is left out on his own a lot given the system they were playing but that is more of an indictment to him than anything. Bellerin will not be so bereft of pace as Chambers is so even if he is isolated he will be able to track back much better and effectively. I think it is much closer of a call and Chambers was bought more for the future. I still think Chambers is best suited either as a CB or a DM. He simply is too slow to play fullback for me in the league.

Fair enough. I think you are overstating his lack of pace as I think he is pretty quick and physically very strong. I also think you are overstating bellerin's abilities based on a couple of appearances. Chambers was the man who kept Clyne out of the saints team last year and as an attacking force he does offer a lot in an ivanovich type of way (Another assist in the cup the last night).

We'll have to wait and see how Wenger calls it I guess

I just checked on transfermarkt and after clyne git injured in gw 14 he was kept out of the team by chambers until near the end if the season. He got a few games here and there but was benched for 6 of the last 24 games and dropped from the squad for one while also playing lb once and being dropped from the squad once.

Chambers was benched 4 times and dropped once too so not quite as cut and dry as I remembered it but chambers did play more over Clyne

I haven't been overly impressed. He's a tidy footballer but he has a lit to do before becoming a mainstay in the first team from the little I've seen of him.

The reaction he is getting reminds me of the likes of Flanagan or that other young lad liverpool had at fb a few years ago and the two young Utd cb's this year. These kids are ok for a short spell but they need to develop more before bring ready for first team football At the highest level.

Bellerin is amazing. He's technically incredibly gifted. No Flanagan. My only concern is that he is young and Wenger will probably rotate them both due to that

Aye Dino, 2/3, although I still have my original WC in hand so am hoping this'll suffice until Gw31 when the fixtures are grim for Stoke(che) and Palace(MCI)

          From now until Gw30, rotating 2 of Sun/Sto/Wba according to fixture strength it gets me this - (QPR/BUR * lei/swa * QPR/NEW * WBA/avl * HUL/whu * hul/EVE * QPR/AVL * CPL/whu)

Not the best 3-way, but it works for me. Will work on one w/o Sunderland as I'm not too confident on Defoe scoring too often or the team creating much. Austin, Naismith, Kane, or a Swan

Sorry for the late reply (had logged off for some sleep) but the reason I ask is because I had been mulling over something similar for three or 4 attacking spots in my wc team.

I want defoe in a home/away rotation if possible with another cheap fwd but it can be a mid either. The issue I am having is the cheap striker. I'm not sold on palace and I'm not sure bojan can be prolific enough.

My rough plan is 3 in the form of 2 strikers and one mid or two mids and one fwd from the following: defoe, bojan, gayle, cisse with Austin and kane not totally out of the mix but not sold on their fixtures or position. The mids I am looking at are mane, aj, Puncheon (not sold on their fixtures), moses/Walters (if bojan is confirmed out for any decent period).

I might even go 4 of the above and play the best three in any gw but some are real home birds (mane) and I don't expect sunderland to pick up much away from home.

Decisions decisions, the Jan wc can be a right pia eh? 😀

Fwiw Zan, you don't have to dish out the secret code. When it asks for you email there's a small text right under the blank spots that says something like "don't want to give us your password? Click here." You can then give your team ID, money ITB and you're good to go.

I'm not Walsh but my intended transfer is Kane -> Gayle this week.
Was looking at Bojan ofc but a tweaked knee is not good 🙁

that's what I'm doing as well as he looks the next best thing besides Bojan..still tempted by Defoe as he's on pens, but he's so bad at them ha

I'm actually now leaning more toward keeping Kane as uninspiring as that is. The more I look at our lineup the more I can see Pardew picking the teams based on who will fit into his tactical plan on how to attack the opposition. Given our newly found plethora of options I am too worried about Gayle randomly being dropped for games even though I think he deserves to start from here on in to see what he can do with an extended run of starts - something he has never been fortunate to have received from a manager at Palace since our promotion.

it was a joke on the Suarez incident, where many argued his word choice wasn't racist in Uruguay and actually a term of endearment (which it kinda is tbh; whether that was his intention or not is something else)

    Here is my squad:

    Begovic Foster

Terry Fonte Wisdom Van Aanholt Duff

    Sanchez Hazard *** *** Boyd

    Aguero Costa Kane

    Do I go with:

    A) Downing & Henderson - quality (highest scoring mid-range mids) / form over fixtures (Chadli would have been in the mix but I don't like the double up on Spurs or the blank in GW27)

    or

    B) Johnson (will he be fit?) & Elia/Moses - all about the fixtures (Puncheon seems a popular pick on here, I am not keen personally as Palace have a lot of options in attack and no guarantee he will play in the hole where he is most effective)

    Foster ᵍ Myhill

I saw both twists coming and thought the execution of the second one was poorly done (didn't read the book, maybe it was better there?) and unrealistic

Yeah, that part was a bit much but it really highlights the extremes of her obsession. I was just like 😯 when I saw that part

The first twist I didn't see coming tbh, though I loved the sequence leading into the reveal and the part after when she quotes the famous "cool girl" bit from the book.

I think my problem was Ben Afleck's acting..he didn't do a great job of making us believe he might have done it..he was too non-chalant so the whole time I thought something was fishy

Yeah it's true, he just has this unemotional facada about him and the way he portrayed his character by acting clueless as to how one acts about in a situation like this, also gave away a bit.

Still, you gotta give credit where credits due, he acted great in this as a whole and I'd say it's been his best performance yet after The Town.

Anyone else getting the feeling that this is not a good week to wildcard

    Aguero injury incoming
    Bellerin, Elia, Baird bandwagons unravelling
    Costa red

    etc

The Costa red card has still not happened, he's not even getting booked now. It's all very strange.

also Bellerin is still on the tracks and Baird never really got up steam amongst people waiting to see how the new coach would organize his defense

does victor Moses become a good 4th/5th midfielder to have on wildcard 5.2

for me a better player than puncheon and also great fixures

I am considering Moses and Punch as 4th 5th midfield spot, I would like to make that transfer this week but not worth -4 to remove Chadders
if a free Transfer or WC I would get him

I hate rotation 4th/5th midfielders aswell go wrong for me.

Il prob keep Boyd as 5th Mid

Chadli to Moses then upgrade with 1.3
