Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud continue their fine form as Arsenal hammer Villa at the Emirates. Mesut Ozil and Theo Walcott also get amongst the goals as the Gunners recover from the loss of Alexis Sanchez to injury. Jonjo Shelvey fires Swansea to victory at St Mary’s, while Ryan Bertrand’s dismissal earns the left-back a three-match ban.

Gunners Attack in the Points

Despite the absence of star player Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal registered their most emphatic win of the season against a toothless Aston Villa yesterday afternoon. The Gunners’ strength in depth was in evidence as Arsene Wenger handed Mesut Ozil his first start since Gameweek 7 on the left, whilst Theo Walcott was named in the first XI for the first time this season after building up his fitness with a handful of sub appearances.

Both bagged a goal apiece, with the German also serving up an assist, as Arsenal’s main men ran riot. Olivier Giroud replicated Ozil’s returns and now has five goals and an assist in his last six league appearances, whilst Santi Cazorla turned in yet another superb showing and delivered a goal, two assists and maximum bonus, with his growing band of owners treated to a 17-point haul.

Post-match, Wenger conceded Sanchez was â€not very close†after failing a fitness test yesterday but with a trip to London neighbours Spurs next weekend, the Chilean will surely return to the XI if he can prove his fitness in time.

Bellerin Stakes a Claim

After dropping to the bench for last weekend’s FA Cup win over Brighton, the youngster replaced Calum Chambers to earn his third successive league start. With Mathieu Debuchy sidelined for months, Bellerin’s last-minute goal merely heightened his chances of remaining ahead of Chambers in the right-back pecking order, with a bargain-basement 4.4 price tag set to spark the bandwagon into life. Arsenal have now registered a shut-out in all three outings since Wenger opted to hand Bellerin and David Ospina (4.8) starting roles and with showdowns against Leicester, Palace, Everton and QPR following their trip to White Hart Lane, they continue to look a likely source of clean sheets.

Bertrand Set for Suspension

The Southampton left-back’s second-half dismissal for violent conduct is set to kick the transfer market into overdrive this week. Bertrand – just like Chelsea’s Diego Costa – was the most popular player in his classification in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game and sat in over 31% of teams prior to his red card. He’ll now miss the upcoming league clashes against QPR, West Ham and Liverpool before returning in time to face West Brom in Gameweek 27 but bearing in mind the on-loan defender cannot play against parent club Chelsea in Gameweek 29, this means he’s available for just two of the next six rounds of fixtures. Ronald Koeman may well turn to youngster Matt Targett – at just 3.9 in FPL – as a replacement for Bertrand in light of yesterday’s events.

Shelvey Shocks St Mary’s

An under-strength Swansea defied the odds to end Southampton’s six-match unbeaten run yesterday. With Gylfi Sigurdsson serving the first of a three-match ban, Garry Monk’s decision to hand Jonjo Shelvey the support role behind Bafetimbi Gomis paid off after the midfielder’s long-range effort sealed the points. Available for 5.2, Shelvey looks likely to retain the role for back-to-back clashes with Sunderland and West Brom, though with new boy Jack Cork and Ki Sung-yeung available from next week and Sigurdsson returning in Gameweek 26, Shelvey’s acquisition looks no more than a short-term punt. At the back, Kyle Naughton helped his new side to a ninth clean sheet of the season in his first start and, at 4.3, could be worth considering ahead of those aforementioned fixtures.

Bony Fires Ivory Coast into Last Four

City’s new striker bagged a brace as Ivory Coast overcame Algeria in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final last night. The 3-1 win means Bony, along with Yaya Toure, Kolo Toure and Cheick Tiote will square up to Yannick Bolasie’s DR Congo on Wednesday evening, and with the third/fourth place play-off and final taking place on Saturday and Sunday, all five are essentially ruled out of this weekend’s Gameweek 24 schedule. Bearing in mind Gameweek 25 takes place over Tuesday and Wednesday next week, it remains to be seen if they’ll be back in time and fully recovered to participate.

Last night’s result means Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez and Tottenham’s Nabil Bentaleb look set to return for domestic duties next weekend as a result of Algeria’s elimination. Mahrez’ return, in particular, looks key here – the 4.9-priced wide man managed a goal and two assists in his last three appearances prior to heading off on international duties.

Ok my first question - I have major defensive problems with Cameron and Gardos not playing (damn wildcard). I went a bit crazy got caught up in the hype and put in Carzola last night so if I do make any changes it would be for a hit. HELP!

    My team

    Krul (Hamer)

    Hutton Terry Wisdom (Cameron) (Gardos)

    Cazola Silva Hazard Sanchez (Boyd)

    Aguero Giroud Kane

Was think of going for Zoooouma as I think Chelsea are guaranteed a cleanie next week so that should soak up the -4 hit.

    What do you think?

I think you're going out of the frying pan, into the fire if you bring in Zouma. Who knows when he'll start. You'll need one you can play in case Sanchez doesn't make it. Got any spare money?

1.2m but I'm planning on getting Costa back so don't want to make too many changes so its too hard to go back if you know what I mean.

In the grand scheme of things, it's one player. You're never going to have the perfect 11, and it means the player you bring in needs to score at least 4/5/6 to make it worthwhile. You can maybe do Gardos to someone though if you have to, as he won't play now and will eat into your funds less than upgrading Cameron would.

Not really imo, had it earlier in the season and it worked. Long term it's good, qpr, LIV are quite difficult in the next 3 but I think I may continue with the double up on WC. Other options I guess are PVA, Lescott, Naughton, Zouma if you fancy the punt..

Haidara for the budget if Santon is leaving as well. Their defending was ridiculous this week though, if Hull weren't so crap they would've conceded at least twice.

                Not at risk from Dummett?

Agree on NEW though. I'm only looking at GW24 and 27 for a cheapie though, and STO/AVL looks about as good as it gets.

Perhaps a Swan instead? Max budget is 5.0m

Yeah Naughton is on my radar. Not sure about the rotation risk re: Dummett as Dummett played CB last game I think when he was fit and so Haidara started ahead of Williamson I think.

Trying to spread between Liverpool and City. Already have Aguero and no Reds cover, so considered Sterling over Silva. With Sturridge back, Pool will score more goals. Had Silva for the past month, but he always seems to be giving the assist to the assister.

Anyone feel tempted by Monreal? Less likely to be rotated than Bellerin and still cheap is my thinking.

I'd say just as likely to be rotated. Gibbs

Good point. Kinda convincing myself that Wenger would stick with what works, but he probably rates Gibbs - cheers.

I'm finding it hard to think of a reason not to get Zouma. Should have a strong squad post WC that won't see too much rotation so it's unlikely a no show would ever leave me with 11, and he's very unlikely to come on for a 1 point cameo

      2 reasons:

      1) Have you looked at which blankers you are benching in GW27? Your bench may already be booked up.
      2) He blocks a spot for a Chelsea attacker. If he does start to be rotated, it could be a real pain.

Repost to get different opinions. How does this WC look?

    Foster (Krul)
    Terry Clyne Naughton (PvA Hutton)
    Sanchez Hazard Silva Cazorla
    Giroud Kun Kane

    0.2m ITB.

Am I being knee-jerky with 3 Arsenal attackers? Which two out of Naughton, Wisdom and Hutton?

Fellow Liverpool fans - what are your thoughts on Danny Ings if he potentially signs? Personally think he is decent but we should be looking for players to really compete with Sturridge, not more squad fillers up front..

Not a singing to get overly excited about but so far borini lambo and balo offered absolutley nothing while Danny was out, I'm thinking he will.. hopefully, better at closing down and getting around the pitch should suit the system, but will be mainly a bench player

Morning all, hoping for some exciting news today from Sky.
Don't really see too much coming into the top teams tho..
    Q. Will Curardo sign today??

On another note, going to have to sell Bertrand and 0 in the bank.
    Whats the story with Toby????
Seems popular on here but have i missed something that he is back??

Havent asked for advice for a while, could be why I've been slipping the last few GWs.

    Panti (Krul)
Terry / Clyne / Wisdom (Cameron / Hutton)
Hazard / Sanchez / ADM / Chadli (JWP)
    Kane / Giroud / Aguero

    2.6 ITB

This week should I do -

    A) ADM > Silva
    B) Cameron > PVA
    C) Save FT
    D) Something else

    Unfortunately 0.3m off Chadli>Silva

Not an ADM fan so A would be good given Citys fixtures.
B is a good move due to Cameroon not playing, but not going to change your season.

What about Chadli > Carzola thats what I did but maybe just caught up in the hype.
