The final day of the winter transfer window was largely uneventful, with only Chelsea prepared to spend big to bolster their title bid. Here’s a quick rundown on the main deals that went through by 11pm, with Scout Reports and Moving Target features to follow over the next few days.

Juan Cuadrado – Fiorentina to Chelsea
With Andre Schurrle leaving for Wolfsburg earlier in the day, Jose Mourinho boosted his options in the final third by snapping up the Colombian from Fiorentina as Mo Salah headed out to the Serie A side on loan. Versatile enough to play in any of the three attacking midfield slots, Cuadrado’s best hopes of barging into the Blues’ first XI could be on the right flank at the expense of Willian, who has managed just a single goal and assist in 22 league appearances. Cuadrado arrives on the back of four goals and as many assists in Serie A this season but whilst he may manage to get past Willian on the right, he faces a tougher challenge to oust Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas and Oscar in our Fantasy affections. Coming in at 8.5, he’s slightly more expensive than Oscar (8.4) ahead of showdowns against Villa, Everton and Burnley in the next three.

Robert Huth – Stoke to Leicester
Having played just four minutes for Stoke this season, it’s fair to say that a loan move to the King Power Stadium should boost the German’s chances of greater pitch time. The Foxes have been far from resilient so far and managed just four clean sheets – given that skipper Wes Morgan has played all but one league match, there’s a fear that the 4.7-priced Huth’s arrival could threaten Marcin Wasilewski’s run of 14 straight starts and potentially deprive us of a 4.0-priced starter in our 15-man squads. Banned for Gameweek 24, Huth then faces three difficult road trips (ars, eve, mci) with a blank Gameweek 27 prior to his visit to the Etihad. With three goals and an assist to his name, though, Jeffrey Schlupp’s out of position potential on the left flank has already served up three goals and the Ghanaian, at 4.5, is the most appealing option here.

Wilfried Zaha and Lee Chung-yong – Man United and Bolton to Crystal Palace
Zaha’s loan deal at Selhurst Park was made permanent by Alan Pardew after he failed to convince at United, whilst Lee joins in a deal that sees Barry Bannan move to the Reebok on loan. Despite praising Zaha’s recent loan displays, the new Eagles boss has started him in just one of his first three Gameweeks in charge and turned to the 5.1-priced midfielder as an impact sub late on in matches. Although Yannick Bolasie could potentially still be out of the picture for two more league outings, Pardew also has Dwight Gayle and Jason Puncheon offering alternatives out wide, suggesting Zaha and Lee face a struggle to nail down a spot in the XI. For now, Puncheon’s two goals and an assist in three under Pardew has made the biggest impression. Over 85,000 snapped him up last week ahead of upcoming clashes with Leicester, Newcastle, West Ham and QPR in the next six, though the Eagles’ numerous options out wide clearly offer Pardew the option to chop and change.

Filip Duricic – Benfica to Southampton
Having sold Jack Cork to Swansea on Friday, Ronald Koeman bolstered his central midfield options by acquiring the Serbian on loan from Benfica until the end of the season. An attacking midfielder, Duricic has fallen out of favour at his parent club and failed to impress at a loan stint with Mainz 05 earlier this season, with no goals or assists over 11 appearances. His arrival merely adds to Koeman’s options out wide, though, and with Dusan Tadic, Sadio Mane and Eljero Elia all vying for the spots on the flanks, Duricic faces a tough task to break into the Saints’ XI.

Aaron Lennon – Tottenham to Everton
Roberto Martinez bolstered his attacking options by snapping up the Tottenham winger on loan until the end of the season. A peripheral figure at the Lane, Lennon has played just eight minutes from Gameweek 15 onwards and he’ll be hoping a move to Goodison can reignite his flagging career. At 6.2, he’s cheaper than Kevin Mirallas and Ross Barkley, but with the likes of Aiden McGeady and Steven Naismith also offering Roberto Martinez options on the right, it remains to be seen whether he can nail down a regular role in his new surrounds.

Davide Santon – Newcastle to Inter Milan
The Italian’s loan return to his native country lessens the competition at left-back for Newcastle under John Carver. Santon has failed to break into the Magpies’ XI since recovering from injury and the new man in charge has instead turned to Massadio Haidara in the last two matches. At just 4.1, Haidara strengthened his case for a regular role by serving up an assist in the weekend win at Hull, serving up an 11-point return in the process. Next up, it’s Stoke, Palace and Villa in the following four.

I think I could eat more bread and cheese than any other man on the planet, as long as it's the right kind of cheese. Brie, Camembert, blue, and a certain kind of hard cheese from France that I can't remember at the moment, are among those that I favor most. Match those with quality bread, and most ideally some wine as well, and it's go time.

Thanks...I like B as well, gives more options in case of injuries, blanks etc.and it saves transfers. Probably would be rotating Sterling and Oscar...there might also be a risk that Oscar won't start all the games, so strong bench needed.

Current form though. And economically, if you are actually purchasing one of their players, only Kompany is nailed (6.4) and is injury-prone.

At this point there are better and cheaper options in the aforementioned teams.

              > Current form though.

This kind of thinking is exactly how you get into chasing points rather than already having them. Looking at City's underlying defensive stats & sched. from now until the end of the year tells us that they've got a great chance of keeping many more CS.

              > only Kompany is nailed (6.4) and is injury-prone

Even at 6.4mil & with an injury history, I just can't turn down:
Hul, Sto, New, Lei, Bur, Wba, & Cpl in City's next 8 games.

As for Southampton, I'll invest again as soon as they get their central midfield & Bertrand back again.

By current form I mean that in my opinion City, despite their good fixtures, won't repeat their 4 CS over xmas etc...(Xmas was a long time ago now!)

I like to play the percentages, and think that City are unpredictable and expensive at the back compared to SOU/CHE/ARS. It seems you don't mind taking a risk on injury history/inconsistency since Xmas/over-spending and that's cool. Could work out really well!

I will be honest though, I considered Kompany this week as a Bertrand replacement before going for the safer and more economical option of a straight-swap to Clyne.

Azpi // Clichy both bad picks..City aren't keeping CS..and there is always rotation risk with Kolarov...Azpi--Luis rotation risk is also there...Bellerin not sure till when he will be nailed on..Haidara is a risk..Wolls is the only decent guy in your defence..
Austin a bad pick as well...If you're playing a 3-5-2 then can go with someone like Gayle for 5m also

    3. Winston.

Very strong midfield indeed...don't like Clichy, but that's just my view.
I would also consider Sanchez to Oscar/Cuadrado and Austin to Giroud.
But not sure about these moves... Oscar and Caz need to be followed later,
maybe would get Eriksen or Walcott when Spurs fixtures turn or if Walcott starts to shine...

Gotta decide if you are going to live with a 3-4-3 or a 3-5-2.
Whichever you choose, downgrade either your fifth mid or your third striker so that you won't be benching a lot of money and use that money to upgrade one of your defenders.

Madness to play PVA away to Sunderland?

Don't see a Saints cleansheet away to qpr, or arsenal away to spurs. Would rather get a replacement for debuchy in using 2 FTs when we have lineups in the midweek

Always been a bit of a fixtures man myself, and [eve, TOT, sot, MCY, BUR, swa, MUN, ars] doesn't scream points to me.

He's the only one I'm considering, but am finding it tough to squeeze him in past the below 5:

        Sanchez, Hazard, Silva, Santi, Oscar

All of which have way better fixtures and are also in decent form themselves

Ahead of Oscar of Silva for me.

Oscar - takes up a Chelsea spot which might be a problem for GW27/DGW. You'll want Costa, Hazard and a defender for their DGW and only 2 of them for the blank assuming you have Kane

Silva - Good in the short term but I believe Bony will start when he gets back and Pelle reverts to 2 up front as per usual pushing Silva to the wing where he won't be as affective

            Fair comments, Ryan.

Silva for me looks good short (and possible long) term. Bony and Yaya look likely to miss the next 2-3 weeks due to ACON and HUL are woeful these days.

Plan for the blank/double is to start with Terry, Haz, Oscar & Kane, and then shift Oscar in GW27 (saving 2 freebies for GW28 to bring in Eriksen and another Spud)

...maybe. Is anybody really going to want to load up on those two QPR matches? I'm certainly not. So if you are just looking to maximize your Spurs, you can probably do it just by saving a transfer along the way. Many already have Kane, so as long as you have a squad that lets you bench him for the blank the week before, you will have triple Spurs without worry.

I'd love to see my minileague opposition spend their wildcard just to prep for that kind of DGW.

It's the weeks leading up to the wildcard, people will be dumping players that they shouldn't. Chelsea play burnley and most will have 2 chelsea, not 3 players.

So there's a stretch of about 4-5 games where a wildcard will help

Well ... the trick is, to have TWO Spuds(Kane and Rose), and ONE Chelski(Hazard), UNTIL we know when the Chelski DGW is.

Then - 4 for Eriksen/Chadli and Austin, or even free if lucky with injuries.

Then sort out the Chelski DGW.

No matter what people think about Jose, he has been canny in the tfr market. His squad is light for the run in and he doesn't like to rotate as much as other managers. Made a profit with Cuadrado and moving Sallah and Schurlle for FFP. I am impressed how he has strengthened his squad spending little. Having said that Chelsea were tired in the Man City game. So:

Do you think we will see rotation for Willian, Ramirez, Oscar, Cahill, Zouma, Remy?

    1. jai1212
      • 12 Years
      11 years, 3 months ago

William - In danger with Cuadrado signing
Ramires - a temporary replacement of Fabregas
Oscar - won't face much rotation
Cahill - Zouma is playing really well, so the chances are slim
      Zouma - playing very well
Remy - Will play till Costa is back

      1. Eze Really?

Thanks. Willian is not a great FPL option and Cuadrado is overpriced compared to Oscar, Fab, Haz. Zouma could be a good punt though.

In my opinion, Willian and Cuadrado will be rotated and both are overpriced in compsrision to their point per game. Fabregas, Hazard or Oscar remain the best out of their midfield. Will have to see how nailed Zouma is in the coming weeks
