The midweek matches proved frustrating viewing for many in the Fantasy Football Scout community, with some notable, well-owned players failing to deliver. We look back at the ensuing hand-wringing and also discover how Fantasy managers’ loved ones suffer when a Gameweek fails to go to plan. As usual, we take a peek at the latest ups and downs in the community leagues, whilst there’s also a range of Members tables to delve into and hot topics assessing how to get the best out of the remaining 13 round of fixtures.

The Community Articles

The Puntmaster was among those who endured a torrid Gameweek 25 with all three of his differentials failing to garner anything beyond appearance points. Triggerlips didn’t have the best of weeks in defence, but as his analysis of ‘hindsight bias’ shows, it is all too easy to declare that a decision is a mistake after the event.

In contrast, Gameweek 25’s Scout Pick Champion Reedy had much better fortune, with his XI that included Laurent Koscielny and Mesut Ozil leaving two out of three of our Scouts in the shade.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Gameweek 25 was an unpleasant set of fixtures for many of the community, particularly those captaining Alexis Sanchez, who failed to bring in the points at home to Leicester. Already, though some in the community are dusting themselves off and moving on to look ahead to the upcoming fixtures and a chance to claw back some respectability. Cabaye4 was on hand to look over the confirmed and potential double Gameweeks left this season, as was Perchinho in his hot topic on forthcoming fixtures. To help plan ahead, Siva Mohan provided this round up of the key fixtures coming up, including FA Cup and European ties.

A look at the upcoming fixtures could prove vital to correcting any mistakes made in the January winter wildcards. As JK’s discussion showed, there were plenty feeling glum about their wildcard choices, though some have good reason to gloat.

Those that opted for a Liverpool player have certainly been rewarded so far, with Brendan Rodgers’ unit scoring ten times and keeping four clean sheets over the last six Gameweeks. Zasa says their focus on a crowded midfield has been key to this, but he wonders whether cracks in the so far successful 3-4-2-1 formation are starting to show?

Harry Kane has been another roaring success for Wildcarders. The Tottenham striker has three double digit Fantasy Premier League hauls in the last four Gameweeks but despite his recent superb form, Berbinho’s Forehead still wonders whether the Spurs man is the real deal.

Barry Yuen also has reservations, this time about Alexis Sanchez’ ability to remain a key asset after he let down Fantasy managers this week. Black Knights was another to question the Chilean’s ability after revealing that his disappointing transfer and captaincy of the Arsenal man ruined a romantic meal with his girlfriend. The ensuring conversation revealed that he is not the only one to have their love life curtailed by Fantasy Football.

There were plenty more forlorn figures this week in Jafooli’s strugglers’ surgery, as the community joined  him to look back on their toils this season. For HVT, such Gameweeks are making him question his commitment to Fantasy Football, which is a theme RoysCallerAnne revisited later in the week. For all of our downtrodden community, members Rhinos posted this welcome pick-me-up with five golden rules to keeping the faith in Fantasy Football, even when it can seem the cruelest of games.

Finally, Sinik came up with a drastic solution to beating the failed captaincy blues, simply do away with captains in Fantasy Football altogether. After this week there will be plenty of attentive ears to this suggestion.

The Members Tables

Fortunesalwayshiding has been taking a look at Stoke’s attacking threat. With the Potters’ fixtures still strong this will prove crucial reading for those looking for a differential in the coming weeks.

Goalkeeping attributes were the focus of Jonah11’s table. This has a universal search filter to give the most up to date analysis as well as long term figures. Chuiku2 has also been looking at defensive statistics to discover more about the teams with the best backlines in recent weeks.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

The “Long and Winding Road FA Cup of Tea” launched in Gameweek 25. Check out those who made it through to Gameweek 26’s round of matches here.

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, Walsh and Albertini hit the top score in Gameweek 25 with 76. There are now 367 teams left after 46 were eliminated

Aaron Thorburn has regained the lead in Red Lightning’s Top 10k Any Season and is now up to 18th in the overall FPL rankings. Following Gameweek 25’s games Red Lightning’s FFS January Wildcard League (352700-723212) is led by The Suspended One, who has risen from 623,000 to 144,000 in the FPL overall rankings since Gameweek 20.

Cricket is a funny old game at times, if Zim bowl us out for 200ish it just takes one of their batsmen to get an 80 and it's there for the taking!

I dont know much about cricket bar the fact that intest cricket they stop for dinner and stuff and the biggest tournament involves the same 2 teams every time.

And I know that one day cricket is actually not bad at all and proper tournaments exist with many countries entering.

But the one thing I do know, is that I dont care who wins, as long as it's not England. 😀

Then again though, I would apply that to the world cup of snakes and ladders if such a thing exists.

Uch its no just me. Pretty much all of scotland, ireland, wales, france, germany, argentina and australia want england to lose at everything. According to my kurdish pal, so do most of the middle eastern countries. I thonk pretty much everyone tends to have englan as like their 198th team the way people have Brazilas their second team in football a lot.

I was just thinking of what Kane did to Chelsea. Who says that Ings can't do well there. That was my thinking anyway and Sturridge is looking good and Silva is about as likely as Siggy to get points.

Kane got lucky that day. Chelsea have conceded 4 PL goals at home all season. Lescott at Sunderland is a far better option.

Is the colour named after the fruit, or is the fruit named after the colour?

And why do people say "Roses are red, violets are blue". Violets arent blue. Theyreviolet. Thats why theyre called violets surely?

I made a couple of assumptions here. Firstly the fruit is called orange in English, secondly the orange is not grown in England. Whereas there are orange things in the UK (such as Scottish peoples hair) Therefore the knowledge of the colour must have come first and the colour would have been named first.

Apparently, according to my research and in particular reference to the English language, the orange fruit came first. The word orange later. And, here's a fun fact. It is claimed that no word rhymes with orange. I've already tried....can't come up with anything. 🙂

So how does this cricket wc work?
I was just on the wikipedia page and it said scotland are in pool A and Ireland in pool B but then said we beat them on 10th of February.

And whats this Scotland having a cricket team anyway?
Is the Scotland cricket team full of guys with Scottish grannies from England?
Ive never met anyone whose played cricket. Ive never even see a cricket field.

Is it really a Scottish team? Im in 2 minds here. I would want Scotland to win but if its really like an England C squad, Im no so sure.

I don't follow it a lot but I think they are genuinely Scottish. I was in a Scottish university's cricket league and most of the main ones have first and second xi's. Where I live in the North East (of Scotland most of the towns have teams too. Admittedly I am an incomer I suspect I would qualify to play for either side these days as I did used to work in a kilt shop which must basically make me a shoo in for the squad.

With Bangladesh and Zimbabwe being the nearly qualified teams.

Almost, first you build the fence on which you fight on top, one must subsequently duel searching for equilibrium at the same time. First to three pokes wins, both duelers must glue index cards on their forehead with the name Macdeath on one, and Macbluff on the other. First to poke the opponent 3 times wins, the loser(by holy tradition) must utter(screech) this in verbatim

            "Then yield thee, coward,
And live to be the show and gaze o' th' time.
We’ll have thee, as our rarer monsters are,
Painted on a pole, and underwrit,
“Here may you see the tyrant."

Whilst the winners rebuttals with this
            " I will not yield,
To kiss the ground before young Malcolm’s feet,
And to be baited with the rabble’s curse.
Though Birnam Wood be come to Dunsinane,
And thou opposed, being of no woman born,
Yet I will try the last. Before my body
I throw my warlike shield. Lay on, Macduff,
And damned be him that first cries, “Hold, enough!”

Both jump off the fence after the match and like gentleman shake hands after, then they charmingly bow and the game is done. This, is fencing.

Exactly, try outs are in March man, you just have to ask you local municipality for a list of the rules and you must supply your own leotard for he matches

Good question, they highly recommend a matching black latex leotard and boots. as well. This is the standard outfit they use in league play http://www.lycrahome.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/b8c0f77f81eaf86b54c1434860d76109/b/l/black_latex_leotard_for_male.jpg

    Current defence:

    Panti (Krul)
    PvA, Terry, Bellerin (Wisdom, Bertrand)

    A) Save
    B) Wisdom -> Toby (LIV) and play him over PvA (WBA). The reason for this is I highly doubt Sunderland will keep a CS (hence want to avoid a double up), I wouldn't be surprised to see Southampton keep one, and it is a good long term move as well.

    Thoughts?

      A.

PVA carries a good attacking threat and anything can happen this week (injuries to your other players etc)... 2FT next week will give you a lot more flexibility, where you can still make this transfer if you wish. Last time I benched PVA he got 12 points, just saying.

Thanks Innsie, your reasoning is logical.

Oh yes, that would have been painful. Considering the goalscoring form of WBA at the moment, I just don't see a CS for them. But yes, I guess he has more attacking threat.

        Cheers.

You could argue that Liverpool have been in impressive form lately too.

The simple way to look at it is:
          Attacking threat: PVA wins
Bonus point potential: PVA wins (best baseline BPS/min from SUN defence)

I'd assume Sunderland have better clean sheet odds too, and they'll have to put in a good performance for their fans after their embarrassing defeat to QPR. It just seems like an unnecessary transfer this week to me, I can definitely see the appeal of Alderweireld considering his price but that's very unlikely to go up before the next GW, and there have been a few occasions this season where players return from injury only to get injured again.

Fair enough, didn't know that PVA had the best baseline BPS/min from SUN.

Yeah, I think you're right. I'll probably just leave it for next week.

Hopefully I can save my FT this week and then sort him out for GW27. Not sure on the replacement yet, kinda depends on whether Chelsea do or don't have a DGW28 as funds will be precious trying to fit my 3rd Chelsea player in, especially if it's Costa.

In a way it is because there are so many other variables that occur in a match, but all in all I think it is still handy to see.

                      This.

It's not a big enough factor to solely base decisions on, but it is certainly helpful to know. For example, my research highlighted the baps potential of Everton CBs (Jag, Distin, Stones) and their recent bonus points show how baseline BPS/min for certain players is actually quite handy to know.

Indeed. Clichy is another who was near the top after my findings, and he got 2 bonus points in City's 1-1 draw with Hull, even though he didn't get attacking returns.

What are Zoum's chances for starting next GW? I know most think he will start so that Cahill is rested for the CL tie. I see it differently though. Mou will want to see Cahill Terry partnership before the big game with PSG so the Burnley game will be an audition. Cahill is already rested, he hasn't been used heavily since Xmas so 2 games in 4 days won't be a problem for him. Anyone agree with me?

Cahill isn't getting rested, he is being dropped. He will not be the starting CB for Chelsea next season

Agreed. I don't profess to know what goes on in Jose's head but the run of home games Zouma has had tells me he is being slowly drafted in in a friendly environment. The premium of having 3 Chelsea players in the FPL is pushing me away from potential rotation players such as Cahill/Zouma.

Interesting insight into Tim Sherwood's appointment by Villa. How do you see them faring now? Will Benteke be brought back into the fold do you think? What about their defensive line up? They seemed pretty solid at the start of the season with Senderos and Vlaar back in there.

I spose its a case of can it get any worse for Villa? 12 goals all season - lowest amongst 92 clubs in England.

Sherwood is an idiot. But I wouldn't be surprised to see Benteke suddenly scoring goals again.

fielding is obviously his weak point. one of the best bowlers statistically over the last year. 33 from 7 overs decent enough on such a dire track
