The midweek matches proved frustrating viewing for many in the Fantasy Football Scout community, with some notable, well-owned players failing to deliver. We look back at the ensuing hand-wringing and also discover how Fantasy managers’ loved ones suffer when a Gameweek fails to go to plan. As usual, we take a peek at the latest ups and downs in the community leagues, whilst there’s also a range of Members tables to delve into and hot topics assessing how to get the best out of the remaining 13 round of fixtures.

The Community Articles

The Puntmaster was among those who endured a torrid Gameweek 25 with all three of his differentials failing to garner anything beyond appearance points. Triggerlips didn’t have the best of weeks in defence, but as his analysis of ‘hindsight bias’ shows, it is all too easy to declare that a decision is a mistake after the event.

In contrast, Gameweek 25’s Scout Pick Champion Reedy had much better fortune, with his XI that included Laurent Koscielny and Mesut Ozil leaving two out of three of our Scouts in the shade.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Gameweek 25 was an unpleasant set of fixtures for many of the community, particularly those captaining Alexis Sanchez, who failed to bring in the points at home to Leicester. Already, though some in the community are dusting themselves off and moving on to look ahead to the upcoming fixtures and a chance to claw back some respectability. Cabaye4 was on hand to look over the confirmed and potential double Gameweeks left this season, as was Perchinho in his hot topic on forthcoming fixtures. To help plan ahead, Siva Mohan provided this round up of the key fixtures coming up, including FA Cup and European ties.

A look at the upcoming fixtures could prove vital to correcting any mistakes made in the January winter wildcards. As JK’s discussion showed, there were plenty feeling glum about their wildcard choices, though some have good reason to gloat.

Those that opted for a Liverpool player have certainly been rewarded so far, with Brendan Rodgers’ unit scoring ten times and keeping four clean sheets over the last six Gameweeks. Zasa says their focus on a crowded midfield has been key to this, but he wonders whether cracks in the so far successful 3-4-2-1 formation are starting to show?

Harry Kane has been another roaring success for Wildcarders. The Tottenham striker has three double digit Fantasy Premier League hauls in the last four Gameweeks but despite his recent superb form, Berbinho’s Forehead still wonders whether the Spurs man is the real deal.

Barry Yuen also has reservations, this time about Alexis Sanchez’ ability to remain a key asset after he let down Fantasy managers this week. Black Knights was another to question the Chilean’s ability after revealing that his disappointing transfer and captaincy of the Arsenal man ruined a romantic meal with his girlfriend. The ensuring conversation revealed that he is not the only one to have their love life curtailed by Fantasy Football.

There were plenty more forlorn figures this week in Jafooli’s strugglers’ surgery, as the community joined  him to look back on their toils this season. For HVT, such Gameweeks are making him question his commitment to Fantasy Football, which is a theme RoysCallerAnne revisited later in the week. For all of our downtrodden community, members Rhinos posted this welcome pick-me-up with five golden rules to keeping the faith in Fantasy Football, even when it can seem the cruelest of games.

Finally, Sinik came up with a drastic solution to beating the failed captaincy blues, simply do away with captains in Fantasy Football altogether. After this week there will be plenty of attentive ears to this suggestion.

The Members Tables

Fortunesalwayshiding has been taking a look at Stoke’s attacking threat. With the Potters’ fixtures still strong this will prove crucial reading for those looking for a differential in the coming weeks.

Goalkeeping attributes were the focus of Jonah11’s table. This has a universal search filter to give the most up to date analysis as well as long term figures. Chuiku2 has also been looking at defensive statistics to discover more about the teams with the best backlines in recent weeks.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

The “Long and Winding Road FA Cup of Tea” launched in Gameweek 25. Check out those who made it through to Gameweek 26’s round of matches here.

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, Walsh and Albertini hit the top score in Gameweek 25 with 76. There are now 367 teams left after 46 were eliminated

Aaron Thorburn has regained the lead in Red Lightning’s Top 10k Any Season and is now up to 18th in the overall FPL rankings. Following Gameweek 25’s games Red Lightning’s FFS January Wildcard League (352700-723212) is led by The Suspended One, who has risen from 623,000 to 144,000 in the FPL overall rankings since Gameweek 20.

I scheduled Kohli as my power player for the India - Pakistan match but he is not showing up as my power player on the live feed. Have I made a mistake or is this the same for every one!?

According to this ESPN article published today, Alexis has yet to train since the injury because his knee is still swollen. If that's the case, even my most optimistic self can't see him recovering in time for next Saturday at Crystal Palace.

Even if he returns to training say Wed/Thu I don't think Wenger will risk him again.

    Thoughts?

    Hi all, Thoughts on this?
    My current team is..

    Foster,
    Terry, Clyne, PVA,
    Silva, Sanchez, Hazard, Johnson
    Giroud, Aguero (c), Kane

    Subs, Myhill, Wasil, Boyd, Wisdom

    2.7m, 1ft, WC still available.
    Concerned about the upcoming DGW

    1. My bench needs work but surely saving (barring unexpected injuries) is the best option for the GW ahead right?

    2. Who should I next focus to bring in or remove besides the bench?

    3. Those still with a WC available.. when would be the best time to use and how should having a WC effect who we bring in the next few GW's.. Just go for short term punts? etc..

Concerns for diff reasons in particular over, Wisdom, Giroud, Johnson,

4BGWers and 1 doesnt start anymore. Johnson isnt performing either. Kane, Hazard and Terry for bench in GW27, so with next 2FTs, sort Wisdom and Wasil.

    Thoughts from yesterday.

Wisdom benched again, Dawson CS and Assist, Ideye & Berahino a handful, nice fixtures

Sturbridge is definitely back and looks better ever game

Despite attractive fixtures, Stoke defence is not worth investing in with current suspensions and injuries, add Cameron and Muniesa to list already containing ShawX and Wilson.

West Ham I think was a one off, they will bounce back but still don't have great fixtures.

Palace were just Palace. Puncheon and Zaha benched. Bolasie started.m

I think most of the Prem sides started their first 11's yesterday, didn't look too much rotation.

        Since Pulis has taken over:

        BPL 1 Jan 2015
        v West Ham (A)
        1 - 1
        BPL 10 Jan 2015
        v Hull (H)
        1 - 0
        BPL 19 Jan 2015
        v Everton (A)
        0 - 0
        BPL 31 Jan 2015
        v Spurs (H)
        0 - 3
        BPL 8 Feb 2015
        v Burnley (A)
        2 - 2
        BPL 11 Feb 2015
        v Swansea (H)
        2 - 0

Difficult to justify desirable let alone essential. And 3 West Brom, really?

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Yesterday's hot topic looked at dgwk 28 differentials. But what about the Gwk 27 blanks? Who is going into those fixtures happy to field less than 11? Which players are you keeping? Is there merit in ditching Chelsea players if they don't have a dgwk for a number of weeks?

Just what I was just discussing above. When do we know the Chelsea DGW? I'm benching my three Chelsea and Kane. I have a couple of non players in Baird and JWP I need to sort out to get ten on the field.

I have Ivanovic, Hazard, Kane, and what I'll do is I'll bench the three of them.

If one has more than 3 players in total from teams that'll have blanks in GW27, then ditch those on whom you can easily afford later ! Plain and simple... 🙂

Keeping kane, Haz and Ivan then bringing in 2 more Spurs for the dgw. Kane and Haz are definite holds and so is your chelsea defender imo

Benching Hazard, Terry and Kane as their all season keepers and not worth ditching for one blank. Need to sort out Baird and get in Eriksen for the DGW, and Costa or Fabregas for Chelsea's DGW.

I have Terry, Ivanovic, Hazard and Kane.

I plan to save transfer this week then drop Terry and Baird to get 11 out.

Week 28 If Chelsea don't have DGW I will take a hit to get Erikson + one other.

You can bench Kane, Haz and Chelsea defender.

Easiest option is to get Lloris and you can bench him without it affecting your starting XI.

Then after the blank get in a couple of cheapies. Austin maybe, Schlupp or someone like that. I think QPR under Ramsey might be worth investing in now and could surprise people in the dgw.

BGW looks like a perfect week to improve ranks. If we can field strong 11(without taking hits), it should give some advantage. No proper captaincy contender as well...

Terry is the only one of my blankers that doesn't have too much value tied up in him so he is the one that has to make way as I also think its important to field as many players as possible without hits on blank weeks. Rather take hits on DGWs.

      • 11 Years

Great question Jonty, perhaps there is a different way to skin this cat. Since most of us will be entering the DGW with Hazard, Chelsea defense, Costa/?, Kane, Eriksen and (?)................
Maybe Gw27 is where the points will be made. Many will be rolling out a less than ideal 442 with a few iffy players and fixtures to boot. If one were to take out a Hazard, or Chelsea defender for Gw27 and swap them for two players with great fixtures on that GW, it could make way for some cheeky differential.

      DDG(23.0%)
      Clyne(33.7%) | Ivanovic(24.9%) | Clichy(15.9%)
      Eriksen(23.7%) | Fàbregas(34.2%) | Hazard(39.1%) | Sterling(30.4%) | Downing(27.8%)
      Kane(43.5%) | Pellè(15.4%)

      Myhill(12.5%), Bruce(10.4%) Wisdom(21.7%) Zamora(3.4%)

That is the overall template within FPL including dead teams, I see 5 players there with blanks coming up (6 if you include Zamora, albeit not to highly owned). The Gw27 fixtures for the remaining top teams aren't the best either, LIV vs mci, and ARS vs eve, so the only remaining top teams to play are both Southampton(wba) and ManUnited(SUN). From an attacking perspective, both of these teams have one of the best fixtures on that GW, with Newcastle(AVL), West Ham(CPL), Stoke(HUL), also topping the ticker overall as well.

So if you're the adventurous type and could do with an old fashioned chasing with a high risk move up your sleeve, this may be a good time to play your cards (not WC obviously). From those team listed I can see why two of those listed may sway people away after this weekend's performances (Hammers 0-4 loss o West Brom, and Stoke's 1-4 loss to Blackburn). So this gives us these potential short term punts for the GW if you take out a Chelsea or Spurs player before their blanks,

These are just my personal potential picks, go with your own judgment of course
Newcastle - Cisse, Cabella and Janmaat/Haidara

West Ham - Downing, Sakho and Cresswell

Stoke - Moses, Crouch/Diouf, and Wollschied/Pieters if fit

Man United - Defense, and any of their attackers can be good options, many have personal opinions of that side's best attack so I'll refrain from listing them

Southampton-Many already have a Saints defender, but the offense isn't as highly owned overall and in the top10k so perhaps punting on any of the attackers is a good option(long term also IMO)

So in summary, this Gw27 has all the makings of a low scoring GW as many top teams are either not playing or have tough fixtures, as well as many reverting to defensive formations and playing their Boyds, Zamora's and what-have-you's. You may be able to accumulate 2 FT's and use at least one to take out one of your blank players and rejuvenate the forward/defensive line with any of those teams listed (other teams good options as well). Your healthy 343/352 may reap it's rewards then as you battle it out vs the 442's or even 532's. You may well have to opt for a hit or two come the week after though, so you will likely lose value on the players you took out, but it may just be worth it if your players can recuperate the hits for the blank. Points is the name of the game now, not value.

A lot of this comes down to how long you have had your Chelsea/spurs players or, rather, how much profit you have tied up in them. Most of us can't afford to lose 0.5 on selling Harry Kane for a week. I, for instance, can easily afford to drop Ivanovic for one match then buy back (if Chelsea even HAVE a double gameweek)

      Mixed reviews on him.

Some claim he caused divisions at Spurs. Seems to have a high opinion of himself. General feeling among QPR fans is that we dodged a bullet by not going for Sherwood.

He may well be what Villa need but I think Benteke needs to get the hell out of there at the end of the season anyway.

It will also be interesting to see how he fares without Sir Les and Chris Ramsey as neither will be available to him now.
