There are two double Gameweek players among our Differential picks this afternoon, with Leicester’s veteran Argentine and Hull City’s January signing catching our attention. Manchester City’s marauding left-back completes our trio of potential difference-makers.

Esteban Cambiasso

Leicester’s recent reversal of fortunes can, in part, be attributed to the productivity of Esteban Cambiasso. The former Inter Milan stalwart has delivered the goods when the Foxes needed it most, tallying one goal and two assists during their trio of successive wins. With the attack-minded Riyad Mahrez losing out to Marc Albrighton on the right flank of late, Cambiasso arguably represents the strongest route into Leicester’s midfield. Indeed, over the last three Gameweeks, Cambiasso has engineered eight opportunities for his team-mates – only two midfielders have managed more.

Nigel Pearson’s men now embark on a double Gameweek (bur, CHE) that presents further chance to ascend the table. Although Burnley have only conceded six goals in as many outings, they’ll doubtless leave gaps at the back searching for their first goal in five matches – at this point, Sean Dyche’s side can’t afford to sit tight and need to go on the offensive. Having scored ten times in the last four, Pearson’s side will be optimistic of breaching Chelsea’s backline as they go on the offensive to secure their survival. Another real benefit to be gained from drafting in Cambiasso as a budget fifth midfielder is the Foxes’ favourable run-in. The East Midlanders cap off their campaign with three winnable home ties (NEW, SOU, QPR) and a trip to struggling Sunderland in Gameweek 37.

Dame N’Doye

Sourcing Hull City coverage for their double Gameweek (cry, LIV) is far from straightforward, but lead striker Dame N’Doye could be a profitable punt – particularly when you consider that the majority of managers are snubbing the Tigers’ budget options in favour of Leicester’s. The 5.5-priced frontman made a quick start upon his switch to the KC Stadium in the January transfer window, scoring in his first three starts. Goals have dried up since then, though the underlying stats still impress – N’Doye has fired 14 attempts over his last four matches, that’s the same number as Harry Kane, and a tally bettered by only three forwards.

Hull’s first test is a trip to Crystal Palace on Sunday, which N’Doye will no doubt relish after watching an out-of-form West Bromwich Albion side best the London club 2-0 last weekend. Granted, the Eagles’ offense has clicked into gear of late – tallying 11 goals in four matches – yet their rearguard failed to keep a clean sheet in their previous nine. While a home tie against Liverpool next Tuesday should prove a stern test of N’Doye’s credentials, the Reds’ back line revealed a vulnerability when they were breached four times by the Gunners in their last match-up. Recruiting N’Doye does come with the caveat that Hull’s fixtures beyond the double (ARS, BUR, tot, MUN), on paper, appear to offer slim pickings but as a one-week punt, he could be worth considering.

Aleksandar Kolarov

In light of Gael Clichy being ruled out of Manchester City’s home encounter with Aston Villa, Aleksandar Kolarov has a free run at the left-back berth again this weekend. The Serbian defender is set to be handed consecutive starts in the Sky Blues’ rearguard, having been recalled to the side for their 2-0 victory over West Ham United last time out. Famed for his free-kick prowess and long-range shooting, Kolarov posed a significant attacking threat against the Hammers, attempting three shots and executing six crosses throughout the 90 minutes. Furthermore, amongst defenders, only Robert Huth (by eight to seven) has produced more shots in his last four matches than the Serbian.

Despite struggling for form, City have notched clean sheets in four of the past eight Gameweeks. Their run-in (AVL, tot, QPR, swa, SOU) looks conducive to further shut-outs, too, with three winnable home ties and away fixtures against teams they typically dominate. Price at 5.7, Kolarov also carries the benefit that he’s the cheapest route into the champions’ defence and the most likely full-back to support the likes of Sergio Aguero and Jesus Navas on the counter. If Clichy remains sidelined for the run-in, Kolarov could prove a fine differential.

Thought I'd dig up some more concrete information on this whole Lallana debacle, since I've seen some are skeptical of Coutinho's game time with Lallana on the pitch. This is all data commencing in December when Liverpool had their great run after the United loss and subsequently reverted to a 3421 set-up.

In quotations I added the important substitutions effecting the front three and midfield.

Gw 17: Lallana - Sterling - Cout - (no subs)
-----Hendo - Lucas - Gerrard - Mark - (Mark out, Borini in 75th)

Gw 18: Lallana - Sterling - Cout - (Lamb in, Cout out 72nd)
-----Hendo - Lucas - Gerrard - Mark - (no subs)

Gw 19: Lallana - Sterling - Cout - (all three subbed off sporadically late in the game)
-----Manquillo - Lucas - Hendo - Moreno - (no subs)

Gw 20: Lallana - Sterling - Cout - (Lallana out, Borini in 55th)
-----Hendo - Gerrard - Lucas - Moreno - (Moreno out, Lamb in 85th, Mark out, Lucas in 72nd)

Gw 21: Gerrard - Borini- Cout - (Sterling rested, Lallana injured, Gerrard subbed early)
-----Mark - Hendo - Lucas - Moreno - (no subs)

Gw 22: Sterling - Borini - Cout - (Sterling out, Ibe in 85th, Lallana benched for calf injury)
-----Mark - Hendo - Lucas - Moreno - (Moreno out, Enrique in 71st)

    C1cup: Gerrard - Sterling - Cout - (Gerrard out, Lallana in 69th)
-----Mark - Hendo - Lucas - Moreno - (no subs)

    C1cup: Gerrard - Sterling - Cout - (no subs
-----Mark - Hendo - Lucas - Moreno - (Mark out, Balo in 70th, Moreno out, Lamb in 106th)

    (Sturridge re-introduced into squad)
Gw 23: Lallana - Sterling - Cout - (Cout out, Ibe in 81st)
-----Mark - Hendo - Lucas - Moreno - (Mark out, Studge in 68th)

FA Cup: Lallana - Sterling - Cout - (Lallana out, Hendo in 54th)
-----Mark - Gerrard - Allen - Moreno - (Allen out, Studge in 69th, Mark out, Bori in 65th)

Gw 24: Gerrard - Sterling- Cout - (Studge in, Cout out 55th, Sterling off at 82nd)
    -----Ibe - Hendo - Lucas - Moreno - (Lucas out, Allen in16th)

Gw 25: Mark - Studge - Cout - (Mark out, Lallana in 79th)
----Ibe - Hendo - Gerrrard - Moreno - (Gerrard out, Lovren in 68th)

FA Cup: Lallana- Studge - Cout - (Lovren in, Cout out 79th)
----Mark - Hendo - Allen - Moreno - (Mark out, Balo in HT)

Gw 26: Lallana - Sterling - Cout - (Lallana out, Studge in 62nd))
----Ibe - Hendo - Allen - Mark- (Ibe out, GJ in 75th, Mark out, Moreno in HT)

    (Ibe out injured)
Gw 27: Lallana - Sterling - Cout - (no subs)
----Mark - Hendo - Allen - Moreno - (Mark out, Studge in 76th, Moreno out, Kolo in 83rd)

Gw 28: Lallana - Studge - Cout - (Studge out, GJ in 84th)
----Sterling - Hendo - Allen - Moreno - (Moreno off, Kolo in 73rd, Sterling out, Lamb in 90th)

FA Cup: Lallana - Studge - Cout - (no subs)
----Mark - Can - Hendo - Sterling - (Mark out, Balo in 59th)

Gw 29: Sterling - Studge - Cout - (no subs)
-----Lallana - Hendo - Allen - Moreno - (Moreno out, Gerrard in 64th, Lallana out, GJ in 88th)

Gw 30: Lallana - Studge - Cout - (Lallana off, Gerrard in HT)
-----Sterling - Hendo - Allen - Moreno - (Moreno out, Balo in 66th)

Gw 31: Mark - Sterling - Cout - (Mark off, Studge in HT)
Hendo - Lucas - Allen - Moreno - (no subs)

    FA Cup: Cout - Studge - Sterling - (433, Studge off, )
----Henderson - Lucas - Allen - (no subs)

    Studge injured, Ibe back
Gw32: Ibe - Cout - Sterling (433, Ibe out 59th for Borini, Sterling off at 89th for Lambert)
----Hendo - Lucas - Allen - (no subs)

FA Cup: Gerrard - Sterling - Coutinho - (no subs)
-----Mark - Hendo - Allen - Moreno - (Mark out, Balo in 46th, Allen out, GJ in 78th, Moreno out 91st)

Though Rodgers hasn't come out and said that Coutinho is essential to his team's system, it has at least manifested in game time. Of all these matches, the only one where Coutinho was subbed prior to the 70 minute mark was vs Everton (55th) where Besic has Coutinho in his pocket and Rodgers out of pure caution took him off to avoid any injury.

In his system (both 433 and 3421), he's their main creative outlet and the one that pulls all the strings in both midfield and in attack. They need his dynamic juices in attack or else their attack just goes flaccid. He's been one of Pool's most important asset since they reverted to 3421 in December, I can't see any logic behind his spot being under threat. Lallana, Ibe, Markovic (and sometimes Sterling) all have played at WB spot and CAM respectively, but neither have dethroned Coutinho on the left so far and I can't fathom why this will change anytime soon, in my opinion.

Late switch from Hazard to N'Doye for me.

N'Doye has been returning similar stats to Giroud despite playing for Hull. He's a proven European class striker. Hull are fighting for their lives. Palace defence not all that and the game will be open.

Hazard is sensible and I have had the armband on him all week. But in the end I just couldn't resist the urge to captain N'Doye. Go and get a hattie lad.

Nah, I would have had N'Doye and Agüero upfront in a 3-5-2, with Hazard (c) if I had been on wildcard.

No hits, and still got 40 today with Sigurðsson producing the goods. 😀

Yeah, I read your posts on FISO last night. "N'Doye is probably the only DGW striker worth having". Was one of the things that helped me over the line with the (c) decision so I owe you some thanks.

40 with no hits is a big score with no wildcard. Who do you have tomorrow?

Ivanović, Hazard... and someone who I feel has been overlooked by some this week as he could still get a big score regardless of the opposition Sánchez.

I benched injury and rotation doubt Rémy in case he got a cameo, in favour of being able to start Kane and Sigurðsson.

Worked out OK then. With Hazard (c) it will now be hard for you to lose ground this GW even without a wildcard.

After a shocking few weeks I needed a big one. Unless Hazard gets a really big score I should get it.

I think so, I am guessing you will be cursing if Hazard scores for your beloved Chelsea, just like I have been whenever Silva does for Man City. 😆

Nah, some things are more important than FPL. As long as N'Doye equals or betters Eden's score over 2 games I am fine.

    C) Remy to Vardy -4

Vardy only because he is nailed to start. Ulloa plays more centrally and further up pitch and should take pens when Nudge is inj.

I would gamble with Ulloa. (Vardy owner)

    Hmmm, started tinkering again.

    A) Ospina, Skrtel + Cambiasso.
    or
    B) Mignolet, Azpilicueta + Albrighton.

B would mean double Chelsea defence. I do think Azpilicueta will play both DGW matches, so I could just do Azpilicueta > Koscielny for GW35.

I would go A, because IMHO Azpi is really a risk, especially with Chelski so close to securing the tittle. This is just a gut feeling though.

My thinking is that Mourinho will want a solid defence and try to win the next two games to win the title and make minimal changes to the team.

    Schmeichel

    Augero Vardy

4.1 itb to do Vardy --> Giroud for GW35

    Scraping the barrel question:

    Would you go for:

    A) McShane (3.9m) or
    B) Baird (3.8m)

Bearing in mind you never plan to start either and the extra 0.1m saved may enable getting Sanchez in for Sterling in GW36. With A) I'm 0.2m short and with B I'm 0.1m short of the below planned transfers in GW36:

    Sterling & Costa -> Sanchez & Giroud

I think Sterling will likely rise 0.1m (which would be enough for B) but for A to work I'd also need either Costa to rise 0.2m or Giroud or Sanchez to drop 0.1m.

    Gotta be a dud 15th 3.8m'er right?

    Schmeichel, Panti
    Terry, Skrtel, Morgan, PVA, xxx
    Haz, Silva, Sterling, Cout, King
    Aguero, Costa, Kane

I see your point. Go for Baird then to enable the transfer.

Why are you going for Coutinho over Hendo?

Both are good options, but I think with Lucas out Gerrard will likely start which would remove penos from Hendo. Also seen rumours of Cout playing in he false 9 so he will be right up the pitch at all times. He also blo0dy loves a shot.

i guess I could always get Ramsey/Ozil instead of Sanchez in GW36 if I do come up short, and then do Silva -> Sanchez for the DGW.

You can't afford it. Those price changes won't happen and you'll be taking a hit for your arsenal players. Maybe you should downgrade Morgan to save the hit next week

You don't think Sterling will rise 0.1m by next w/e with today's transfers in for the DGW and then QPR to follow? Surely had a very good chance of rising 0.1m.

Best GK for this week out of these, 4.5m max. Got Ospina as cover; NOT Schmeichel

    a) Green
    b) Davis
    c) Harper
    d) Heaton

Currently on A, but guess he is not useful IF Ospina picks up an injury....
