Our pre-Gameweek members article which focuses on the main captaincy contenders arrives once again this afternoon. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

Eden Hazard leads the way as Chelsea host Palace at the Bridge. The Belgian disappointed over the double Gameweek and blanked in successive matches for only the third time this season but with a win over the Eagles set to clinch the title, over 41% of voters have plumped for Hazard, who has served up double-figures in each of his last two at the Bridge.

Four goals in his previous three earns Sergio Aguero 15% of the votes cast as City make their way to Tottenham. The Argentine has thrived since Manuel Pellegrini switched to a lone striker system and served up a 19-point return against his weekend opponents back in October – his highest haul of the season. Bearing in mind that Spurs are without a home clean sheet since Gameweek 19, Aguero owners will be confident that his scoring streak is set to continue.

Leicester’s Jamie Vardy has picked up 7% backing for a plum home clash against Newcastle. The Magpies have lost seven successive matches under John Carver and have mustered a mere two clean sheets in 22 league outings – with three goals and as many assists in his last six, Vardy could wreak havoc as the Foxes look for a fifth win in six.

Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez have earned 7% and 6% of votes respectively as Arsenal make their way to Hull. The Tigers proved the shock troops of double Gameweek 34 after serving up back-to-back clean sheets but face a tough task in keeping their visitors at bay. Giroud has seven goals and an assist in his last eight in the league, whilst Sanchez – for all the talk of a lack of form – has three strikes and an assist in the previous four in all competitions. Encouragingly, the Chilean has already bagged a 13-point return against Steve Bruce’s side back in Gameweek 8.

Christian Benteke’s eight goals and an assist in the last seven is set to put Everton’s defence to the test this weekend. The Villa forward has two sets of double-figures in the last three in front of his own fans but with the Toffees conceding just two goals in the last six, only 6% are willing to hand the Belgian the armband. It’s worth noting that Everton have managed just two clean sheets away from home all season, though, with the last one arriving in Gameweek 23.

Raheem Sterling (3%) has the chance to redeem himself after failing miserably over the double Gameweek. With Mario Balotelli ruled out, Sterling could return to a central role at home to a QPR side that has managed a single clean sheet on their travels this term.

Harry Kane is surprisingly low down. Backed by just 2% of voters, the Tottenham forward faces a City side that’s conceded in each of their last eight outside of the Etihad and has lost four successive away matches.

Graziano Pelle could be an outside differential. With three goals in as many matches, he travels to Sunderland – a side he racked up 15 points against back in Gameweek 8, when the Saints hit the Wearsiders for eight at St Mary’s.

Juan Mata is backed by just 1% of voters as United look for their seventh straight home win. Louis van Gaal’s side entertain West Brom this time out, having scored 18 goals in their last six outings at Old Trafford.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I did this and kept Vardy. Giroud has a better matchup this week, and I believe he will provide more points over the run in (especially with GW37). Couldn't bring myself to ship Vardy given recent form and matchup.

    Mignolet (McCarthy)
    PVA, Ivanovic, Zouma (Rose, NTaylor)
    Henderson, Coutinho, Silva, Hazard (Puncheon)
    Aguero, Murray, Kane
    1 FT £3.5m ITB.

    Worth doing?

    Silva/Henderson/Coutinho -> Ramsey
and Murray -> Giroud for a 4 point hit

Could also do Silva -> Sanchez with no hit

      Flip a coin mate.

Anyone could be rotated for the Sunderland game, and Ox will be back by then competing for the right wing spot.

Do you guys think that the absence of Toure will have negative effect on Aguero's potential output this week ?

Toure often while on the attack draws a couple of opposition players if not more towards him. That obviously creates space for Kun and Silva as we all know.

Would like to know what stats say though about it.

If anyone can put into perspective Aguero's stats with and without Yaya, will be much appreciated.

    Thanks. 😀

Kane and Chadli could tear down City with lesser effort without Yaya around but Spurs as a whole can be quite unstable yet unpredictable..

Watched City play a few times this season without Toure and it was painful viewing.

Fernando and Fernandinho together aren't good enough - they don't drive the ball forward and often lose it.

Didn't even realise Toure was out so thanks for the heads up.

This, although City's best game this season(away to Roma) featured the Fernando/dinho double pivot as a result of Yaya's suspension(although mentality alters with respect to opposition).

When City are in possession, Yaya is one of their best players, so him being out will almost certainly be a negative, imo.

It could also mean a second striker coming in, which would also be bad.

They couldn't win without him for a whole 12 or so months. I think they finally won a game without him at the beginning of the year

without yyt in January, Silva scored three in five games despite man city not doing well

SO probably yyt absence may benefit Silva instead

In January Silva scored only once..

Twice in February when he was employed as a false 9. So we cannot really compare that with this imo.

What I think is, the absence of Toure simply means 1 less guy to think about for the opposition and that imo will negatively affect both Silva and Kun's output this week.

Though QPR is a different story altogether, so not thinking much about it.

Silva's big scores cam mainly when Yaya was back.

Here's Silva's during the games Yaya was absent

          2,6,7,2,7,2,5,9

          Nothing spectacular.

Silva's mega scores came while Yaya was on the pitch - gwks 17,18, 26, 28

Here's Aguero's pts when he has played a significant part ina game in which Yaya was absent

      6, 1, 5, 5, 11, 2.

So that's two blanks. One v good score and three so so scores.

Yaya out does hinder ManC but looks like Aguero still does well with or wothout Yaya.

Few options I can see for this week and my team. 1FT 5.0ITB

    Pants / Myhill
    Terry Bertrand Skrtel (PvA Yun)
    Hazard Fabregas* Silva* Sterling* (Boyd)
    Kun Kane* Vardy

Would like to bring in one of Giroud or Sanchez this week for one of the players either the asterisk.

Any suggestions on which one to do? My main rival has Sanchez and also taken a hit this week probably shipping Rose and Remy who were doubts when he made the transfers.

Fabregas/Silva/Sterling Sterling > Sanchez or Ramsey
    or
    Kane > Giroud.

The save option is one thing playing on my mind also. I don't think he could have afforded Giroud so maybe went Benteke as a guess.

Not having a gunner is a concern though.

    Hello all 🙂

I posted this in the DZ last night but just thought I'd post when it was a tad busier! I hope you don't mind me doing this but it'd be great if you could take the time to read!

In August 2016, I am going to be climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa (5895m/19,341ft) to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society, a cause very close to my heart. Having had both my Great Auntie and my Nana die in the past 2 years with the disease, and my Granny currently a sufferer, I have witnessed first hand what it is like for a family to look after and care for somebody whose essence and being is slowly but surely disappearing. With the ageing population, I know I am not alone in having to deal with situations like this, and so I understand the trouble people have to go through and the pain people feel when family members are affected.

The trek is not going to be easy and I'm going to have to train, but I'm excited to say the least!

If you'd like to keep up to date with my progress this is my JustGiving page:

    http://www.justgiving.com/JonnyChard

Any donations will be gratefully recieved.

    Thank you 🙂
