Our latest ScoutCast episode is dedicated to the memory of long-time community member Simon Humber, aka “Absinthe”, who sadly passed away last week.

Granville, Jonty and myself pay our respects by going about our business – just as Absinthe would have wanted.

We overcome Granville’s late arrival to analyse Gameweek 36, while deflecting the latest bout of community posers that have us assess the likelihood of Chelsea rotation, run the rule over Arsenal assets and lament the demise of Sir Leighton Baines. We also take time out to reflect on our season’s biggest errors, while Granville is given the unenviable task of selecting the best Fantasy manager from Jonty and myself – like a sultry temptress choosing between a pair of doting admirers.

This episode was aired on Tuesday evening via the magic of Google Hangouts. You can witness Granville’s unceremonious crash landing in all its glory via the full fat YouTube version below. Alternatively, if you prefer your ScoutCast more refined, you’ll require the edited audio mp3 via this link or the first player below.

Don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel for alerts on new episodes and to get involved in the Hangout live discussion next week.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    1FT 0.0 ITB

Team at present for this GW is

    Heaton (Panti)
    Terry Hutton Bertrand (Wollscheid PVA)
    Sanchez Hazard Hendo Coutinho (Boyd)
    Aguero (c) Kane Giroud

Any suggestions as there is so many questions arounf the Chelsea line up and Hutton and Wolly didn't start last game.

    Comments appreciated

Thats fine but Henderson probably needs to go for an Arsenal midfielder if you can afford it.

Do you reckon it be worth doing Hendo to Larsson (away to EVE) this GW to free up funds for a 3rd Gunner next GW. Would have Larsson for the DGW also even though Sunderland are pants.....or just save FT and see how eveything pans out this GW?

That's one for the members section imo. When decisions like that are too tough to call, I always seek the help of the member's tools. I would look at the "Team stats - defensive" and then compare the two players for attacking threat.

I'm still kinda split in how to approach the next two weeks. Which do you guys prefer?

    Krul
    Ivan, Bertrand, Bellerin
    Hazard, Silva, Sterling, Hendo
    Kun (C), Benteke, Kane

    Mignolet | Boyd, PvA, Clyne

    1FT, 1.5ITB

    A) This week: Sterling -> Caz on FT
Next week: Hazard -> Sanchez on FT

    B) This week: Sterling -> Sanchez, Clyne -> Vlaar (-4)
    Next week: Hazard/Silva (probably Silva) -> Caz/Ramsey

Also open to other suggestions. Cheers all.

agreed, but with 2 games next week, i reckon he should do 4pts better than hendo in gw 36/37. Sunderland will be fighting to stay up. forcing play in the attacking box. he has proved before that he just doesnt rely on pk's (has scored a hatty in prem)

I like B honestly Nick, getting Sanchez for this week is a priority i would expect, especially with Ramsey likely out. Vlaar is a good shot at a CS and then next week you've got more flexibility depending on how Arsenal look after this GW.

It boils down to whether keeping Hazard over Silva is worth the -4.

I think it is. Reason being the GW38 fixture v Sunderland in which Hazard will certainly play. Sunderland may be relegated, Chelsea will be getting the PL trophy presented at the end of the game and there is a track record of high-scoring last day games at the Bridge. I think you want Hazard for that game, probably as captain unless you go for Benteke.

Vlaar also gives you a better GW38 defender option. So all in all this is a -4 that seems justified.

-4 for ramsey/santi and sell jag for wasil thus being able to keep and play silva
advice would be greatly appreciated guys.. thanks in advance..

I'd be worrying about GW36 first and waiting to see how Ramsey pulls up.

Keep Silva, lose Vardy for Defoe / Wickham

well my gw 36 team is set but no way i am not going into dgw37 with less than 3 arsenal players so the options i suggested are for gw 37... for me to lose vardy to defoe or wickham i am gona have to sell silva gw 37. unless i take a minus 8 by selling henderson for santi then selling jag for wasil then selling vardy for defoe.. but not sure the minus 8 is worth it all for keeping silva..

Start krul (WBA) or guzan (WHU)

Probably won't make a difference with guzan likely still dropped.

Also starting hutton who is all a doubt to start..

    What to do now?

    Schmeichel - Pantilimon
van Aanholt - McShane - Duff - Terry - Skrtel
    Hazard - Henderson - Sánchez - Cambiasso - Fàbregas
    Vardy - Agüero - Giroud

1 FT, £0.8m in the bank.

    a) wait for Ramsey news
    b) Hendo > up to 7.5 mid
    c) save
    d) something else

Guess a) is the logical choice atm.

It didn't hurt me much holding onto him after the DGW fail, for what it's worth. Other transfers took precedence, and my rank has only risen, just in case anyone is wondering why in the heck I still have him.

Yeah. I actually thought about getting him out for Tekkers, but it would be for a hit, and that doesn't seem worth it (lol, coming from a guy who takes way too many hits every season). It helps that I had Tekkers for the DGW when he scored big. May get him in for the last two games, but I guess I'll have to see how it all goes.

I often do think that my rank doesn't reflect my knowledge of the game/league. I just take way too many hits, and that always ends of costing me in the long run. Sure. Sometimes they work out, but all too often, it's just a waste of points. I've got well over 100 points in hits this season. Something I need to work on.

haha over 100 is abit too much. i personally like taking hits too in the early season as it gains team value as well as getting good players at low price.

last season i tried to build my TV and spent over 100 points..didnt do too well and end up 100k. its mainly due to myself taking too many 1 week punts and hoping that it would pay off.

this season due to the slow price rises i ignore TV totally and my rank gets much better. One thing that helps me to avoid taking hits is that i always try to keep some cash in bank or i invest in a high priced player so that i can free up cash easily.

also try to spend lesser transfers on defenders..a good defense from the start of season is the key to do well as we all want to spend our FT on attackers.

You got the right approach. So many of my hits are one week punts, and they just don't pay off enough to keep going that route. I just counted my hits total. 124. Kind of ridiculous. They just seem so right at the time! LOL.

Hits can work out for sure. There are just too many times I've gone and taken punts/hits when I'm doing well and the player I got rid of has a good GW and the one I picked up has a massive fail, gets injured, or any other number of things. But, we're all playing the same game, and that's my fault for trying to bite off too much at times.

This is why when people ask about rank, they should be ignored. Even the best fantasy managers have poor seasons, but it does not change their opinion.

One of the things that irks me about myself in this game is that I've been down to around 500 overall, or even better at times. And yet, I go and take hits anyways. Punts and such that just don't work out. I still do pretty well overall, but it's just something I can't seem to get control over. Maybe I just have poor patience and discipline.

yeah. remember last season i used to take rvp/lukaku/adebayor 1 week punts..almost never worked out.

now i only take hits for players that i potentially would get priced out or over a stretch of good fixtures.

After all these years, hits basically only work out if you keep players for about 4 weeks, but everyone has their own way of looking at it.
The player you got rid of, may then go on a run of their own, and those are points that you could have had.

haha like the giroud red card..remy injuries (both occasions i do not owe them)..murray blank twice..are good luck for me.

for FF, i would say luck such as injuries, unexpected hauls etc will even out over the entire season..

decision making like whether to get hazard/aguero before he exploded mainly are due to good calls and planning...but for toss coin decisions like murray vs vardy are more of luck than analysis.

of cos for captain calls if it ends up one sided its pure luck.

It makes you wonder just how much has gone right for those who are at the top of the rankings. Like way too much luck really.

I wonder what percentage of the top10k of one season finishes in the top10k of the next as well. Would give some amount of credence to the discussions here.

I've actually looked at the season by season history of quite a few people around here who talk about how this year they are doing so well. It's sometimes surprising how poorly they have ranked in seasons past. It kind of tells the story (to some degree, at least). Maybe it reflects better on me that I typically rank sub 100k, even with all the hits I take. My first season was a wash. I had to learn about the league. The players, teams...etc, etc (live in the States and that was the first year I ever watched English football). And 2011/2012 wasn't the greatest either. A bit of an outlyer. I remember that I so often relied on RVP that season and he so often didn't reward. And once I got behind, I just went way overboard on punts. It was also a tough year for me in general. Had a bad living situation. My job kind of went under. Etc, etc. So, those are my excuses! 🙂

yeah u certainly need luck to stay in top 1k..in fact early luck. after jan wc if u are already in top 1k u can play conservatively(unless u have ambition for top) and u will be more or less there.

Having a good start to the season is key to having a good rank in my opinion. Obviously, much easier than starting poorly and having to work your way back up. Once the "template team" sets in, moving up is harder.
After that, the rest is luck!

Great point. I do give credit, for what it's worth, to the players who have shown that they can rank very low for more than one season. There is definitely some talent to the FPL.

    Morning all.
Do we reckon this is the best way to go, both short and long-term?

Fab, Vardy, Sterling -----> Sanchez, Benteke, Albrighton (-4)

    Team would then be:

    Myhill
    Terry Kosc Schlupp
    Sanchez Hazard Coutinho Albrighton
    Aguero Benteke Kane

    (Davis, Skrtel, Boyd, PvA)

    Schlupp over Skrtel?

    Thanks!

    Captain sensible - Aguero
    Captain great punt - Sanchez
    Captain cheeky punt - Silva
Captain cheeky punt the second - Giroud
Captain ridiculous if you're trying to chase a 50-point lead - Berahino

I would favour the attacker. Villa aren't exactly defensive titans, and Henderson may be on pens.
