With the final double Gameweek of the season almost upon us, we turn our attentions to the Opta statistics to assess the recent form of Arsenal and Sunderland.

Using the team profile data, we take a look at both sides displays from Gameweek 30-36 – a period of time that saw them play six times apiece and one that coincides with Dick Advocaat’s arrival at the Stadium of Light.

        Here's a rough team

        Fabianski
        Terry, Clyne, Bertrand
        Hazard, Sanchez, Silva, Hendo/Chadli
        Aguero(c), Kane (vc), Austin

        Heaton, Siggy, Lescott/Yoshida

I'm tempted by Wilshere. Don't see why he shouldn't get starts over Coq

Wouldn't go near Welbeck personally, he isn't exactly prolific

I know his stats are skewed by being subbed on to chase a game but Wilshere's minutes per chance and per key pass are crazy low!

He will start the remaining games too. He needs game time now that he's fit and it only makes sense that Coq makes way, he's had his run.

Wilshere really isn't a replacement for Coq. Completely different roles in the team.

Sunderland will do a Swansea. A DM won't be necessary. United might be a different prospect perhaps but I don't see why Arsenal wouldn't go on the attack.

    Krul
    Kos, Ivan, Terry
    Sanchez(c), Hazard, Silva, Mata
    Giroud, Defoe, Vardy

It's all degrrees of the same theme - my point is it would be hypocritical of me to criticise SK for copying Triggs team when I know myself that my entire transfer strategy is based on other people's seemingly good ideas. I can't hide from that.

Decisions on individual players is an entirely different to constructing an entire team. Ultimately all 3m players pick the latest bandwagons. Its not all degrees of the same thing, it is very different.

            1. Pasqualinho
              • 16 Years
              10 years, 7 months ago

I'm not so sure. I agree that there are differences, and I don't advocate picking a person and copying their team at all - like 12th said, there's no fun in that - but I'm pretty sure that every July I look at someone's RMT and think, yes, with maybe a couple of tweaks I like that squad. And those couple of tweaks will come from someone else's RMT. Which makes me different from the Triggs copier - but not that different.

Of course he does. He follows the captain polls religiously. He is also too influenced by ownership and doesn't back his own judgement enough.

What he is excellent at is team structure. I have learned a lot from him about that. He's also very good at rotation planning. His other main strength is in resisting short-term bandwagons and avoiding hits. He plays in a stable way that, with his experience, pretty much guarantees top 5k.

ML won comfortably. 62 points behind top 1k. Seriously thinking of going all out these last GWs, even though my chances are pretty slim.

    Schmeichel
    Moreno Duff Alderweireld
    Ramsey (c) Sanchez Cazorla Gomez
    Aguero Kane Vardy

    Hazard Schlupp Terry

As you can see captaining Ramsey and benching Hazard and Terry respectively. Crazy?

I was thinking about it..it's absolutely ridiculous to think that Bale has increased in value by £15m. In fact I would say that his value has depreciated by that amount if you consider the fact that there' s public issues..

Who is saying its increased? That's crazy talk if it's true. I agree his value has lowered for the simple fact that there is no way he should be the worlds most expensive footballer and increasing that price again is madness

The only reason Bale is struggling at RM apart from the language is he needs to be the focus of attention on the field. He has no chance of that while Ronaldo is there.

Transfermarkt has him at £70million, now in GBP that's a £15million fall from what Tottenham made.

However, due to a change in exchange rates its still €97million which is only a €3million loss for Madrid.

Inflation in the world of football transfers is much quicker than normal inflation. The new TV deal gives teams a tonne of more money so values of players will rise. Plus it's rare for a transfer fee to truely reflect a player's ability or potential since there are so many other factors involved such as marketability, whether a club needs/wants to sell and the player's remaining contract.

That all said I think Bale is awesome and he's no less of a player than he was. His numbers at Madrid have been solid and he's scored two winning goals in Cup finals for them. The fans have short memories and the club is crazy if they want to sell him after 2 seasons.

"Are the top players really essential?"

Removing the top 2 scoring players from the GK, DEF & MID tables, and the top scoring FWD from his, you have the following team (total points in brackets):

    Adrian (139), Heaton (134)

    Jags (139), Baines (139), Clyne (139), Bertrand (139), Fonte (136)

    Silva (179), Fabregas (167), Henderson (158), Eriksen (158), Sterling (156)

    Kane (182), Austin (165), Costa (142)

Total points = 2272. (but obviously you cannot play all 15 at once).

    3-5-2 Formation = 1721.

Cap Kane every week = 1903.

Total Cost at the start of the season = 99m.

No Fabianski (145) or Mignolet (141).
No Ivanovic (176) or Terry (174).
No Hazard (224) or Sanchez (200).
    No Aguero (205).

So take out these "essentials", make no transfers throughout the season, ignore price changes, and with capping Kane every week, you would be ranked 230k.

The word "essential" gets thrown around a lot, but even one or two of these top scoring players does seem to make a difference.

I am not looking for any feedback ("well of course you need the top scoring players!"), but I was more interested in the difference in points of not having these players. And yes, I am bored at work...

    Any other thoughts?

Anyone not bothering with Sunderland players? Let's say they lose 2-0 to Arsenal then it's effectively a single gameweek plus 1 or 2pts. The other fixture is decent so no problem with those that do wanna pick them but if you've got other plans is it silly to go without?

We saw this in 32 though, with Villa and QPR.

I do agree in essence though, I wouldn't be taking a hit to get any SUN players in.

      Not me.

For me SUN go into the DGW in a very decent form and high spirit. LIV had a terrible DGW34 but top defensive pick Skrtel still walked away with 11 points. Really think Panti & PVA are capable to produce such return.

Plsu, here's something about this season's DGWs. Always favour the smaller clubs. Getting the right players (Benteke, Morgan, Albrighton, NDoye, Phillips, McShane, Dawson) is crucial though.
