Our series of members articles, assessing the season gone by, continues this evening with a look at Manchester City.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men kicked off the campaign as champions after finishing two points clear of Liverpool in 2013/14 but a poor Easter period, where they lost four times in six matches between Gameweeks 27-32, allowed Chelsea to clinch the crown with three fixtures to spare.

We take time out to delve into their data, assessing the performance of City’s key Fantasy assets in terms of their creative and goal threat output.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

bit of a silly one; assuming they were all alive and at their peak, who do you think would be the last man/animal standing if bruce lee, mike Tyson, the undertaker, tony jaa, a lion, a 12ft grizzly bear, an 25 ft anaconda, a great white shark, a fully grown crocodile were in a boxing ring?! 🙂

ha yeah great character though obviously a total sbatrda (for countdown fans). he'd probably do something sneaky like play dead then sneak up on the winner

yeah the croc would be up there at Ladbrokes as one of the favorites. I fancy the 12 ft grizzly, unless the great white shark bites his leg before he cops it.

he'd probably have a gun so he'd have a chance. or he'd get a U.S DRONE to bomb the ring and blow everyone up

Probably tyson.. with the anaconda wrapped around him. Question: is a snake permanently standing or sitting or lying down? 🙂

can a anaconda stand like a cobra? he'd probably have a chance coz he'd keep tripping everyone up. if he wrapped round the grizzly and took him out, avoided the shark and snuck off to the corner whilst the rest were fighting then he could be an outside bet

        1. Valar(Keith)
          • 16 Years

Actually it'd probably be Tyson that wins.. He'd make friends with the bear(both of em have a similar vocabulary) who'd complain to him the importance of playing dead to avoid being eaten. This would lead to Paul Bearer placing him in the coffin. This would anger the undertaker, which would make him lose concentration and get eaten by the shark. In the meantime bruce lee and tony jaa will get entangled in a web of elbows and knees and fly out of the ring together. Out of nowhere The Fonz will appear and literally jump the shark out of the ring. John Nash(who's refereeing) divides the 25 feet anaconda by the 12 ft bear and makes a fraction.. thus eliminating both. At this point tyson appears and knocks the lion out. However, mistaking the crocodile for shoes he steps into it and loses.

the undertaker would have the advantage of his manager paul bearer outside the ring helping him out, such as grabbing the anacondas tail or throwing ashes from a hearn into bruce lee's eye's

ha yeah didn't think of that! the anaconda would be prancing around at the end gloating, milking the applause, everyone else dead, then the undertaker would rise again and tombstone him!

Since the transfer window is finally officially open, here's my transfer window wishlist.

*Krychowiak and Higuain to Arsenal, even Benteke if Higuain is not possible.

*Paul Pogba remain at Juventus, and not move to the Barcelona bench.

    *Schneiderlin to anywhere but United.

*Cabaye and Remy to Palace, would really make the mid-table battle interesting (Stoke, Palace, Southampton, West Ham and Everton for 7th to 10th).

    and finally...
*Aguero to stay at City. As much as I'd love the City team to weaken, he is one of the reasons why EPL is lovely, and it would be a shame to lose that quality.

Just a heads up, Paypal are currently having issues with their service (as of 12.01am today) which is causing issues for a lot of sites that use their service.

On our side, it's just failing to trigger membership - payments are going through fine so we've been manually upgrading folk today.

If you've paid through paypal today and your account isn't active then please mail us as support@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk with your Paypal receipt.

I'm hopeful that they are working around the clock to sort their issues.

Payments through Stripe are working fine.

Obviously going with new additions to the league carries an element of risk but which newbies (dependent on price of course) are likely going to be in your Gameweek 1 team?

I'm hoping i don't get drawn in to too many newcomers. Would rather miss one or two scores than bring in someone who is on and off the bench for a month. But saying that... Shaqiri if it happens obviously, and agree about Payet. And maybe a cheap Norwich defender and Bournemouth forward.

Should get consistent starts on right of front 3, but only got a consistent run of returns at the end of this season. Lot of development to go as he is only 21, decent option imo. Probably will be 5

Repost. This is really a question for the more veteran members, but who do you think was best from:

    Messi, Pele, Maradonna or Eusebio?

At 22, I've only seen Messi play, so I can't imagine what these guys would've been like at the time week in week out.

    Curious to know, cheers.

      You've picked the wrong 4

      CR7, Garrincha, Laudrup, Di Stefano

I have seen Pele, Eusebio and Messi live and Maradona many times on TV. But I'd still vote for Di Stefano. He certainly impressed me more than any other player I have seen.

Garricha was great too but CR7 doesn't deserve to be mentioned in that company.

CR7 definitely deserves to be up there with the greatest players of all time. easily in my top 5 ever. 3 ballon dors (if it wasn't for messi he's have 8 or 9), shined at utd with 42 goals in one season at utd when we won prem and CL, now has over a goal a game at real Madrid in 5 or 6 seasons. his stats alone destroy the likes of maradona of van basten, ronaldo etc. and so many people now consider messi as the greatest player of all time (including me) yet Cristiano has not only out scored him for a few seasons, he has also won 3 ballon dors whilst messi is in his peak years. that says it all

also di Stefano although undoubtadely the greatest player until pele turned up, was playing in an era where European cup finals were being won 7-3. ive got that very final on dvd. both puskas and di Stefano were awesome but you cant tell me the standard of defending was anywhere near as good as it is now. messi destroys teams like real Madrid and Bayern munich with the best defenders in the world. proper athletes that try to nullify him cant get near. granted he has an amazing team to play with but for players like henry, xavi, iniesta to say he is the best ever is enough for me

"I have played against Platini, Maradona, Cruyff and played with George Best — a lot of big names, but none of them has been able to do what Messi does. Two years ago I said that the best player I played against was Maradona and the best player I have played with was Bestie. But I can now say I have never seen a player as good as Messi. He’s in a league of his own." - Former Tottenham star Gerry Armstrong

"Diego [Maradona] filled us with emotions. But between the cracks, without doubt, Messi is better than Maradona." - Diego Simeone

"Who is the Best Player in the World? Leo Messi. Who is the Best Player Ever? Leo Messi." - Arsene Wenger

"Lionel Messi is quite clearly the best player ever. It’s a pleasure to pit myself against him and when I finish my career it’s something I can look back on and know I’ve tested myself against the very best." - John Terry

"Messi is better than Maradona; he is more complete, more consistent, more spectacular. He is reinventing the game – a mix of the real and the virtual." - Tostão

"I am not crazy enough to compare myself with Messi because he is the best there ever was and the best there will ever be." - Mario Gomez

"I was a big fan of Maradona growing up and of the current crop Ronaldo is good but Messi is the best I’ve ever seen. I don’t dish out praise lightly but Messi deserves it. I look for weaknesses in his game and I can’t find them." - Roy Keane

"Messi is the best player ever. And this is said by someone who has seen Maradona and Pele play." - AC Milan chief Adriano Galliani

I agree. messi is the greatest player of all time and I very much doubt there will ever be a better player than him. people say "messi needs to win a world cup to be considered the best. maradona single handidly won it in 86 etc" but I say "maradona never won the European cup of which messi has won 4 times and has been the standout player in 3 of them. also I don't remember maradona ever scoring 50-60 goals a season like messi and Ronaldo does" also there is a myth that the Napoli team was a one man team but careca was probably in the top 5 strikers in the world in the late 80's. so messi number 1,pele, maradona, Cristiano Ronaldo, cryuff top 5 then you got the likes of eusebio, zidane, platini, di Stefano, Ronaldo, best, beckenbaurer, garincha, ronaldihno, van basten etc in no particular order

Interesting - we're talking 4 of the greats here. I'm probably one of the oldest members on this site and I'd put it very close between Pele and Messi, with Maradona just behind and Eusebio some way back in 4th. All this rubbish about Messi having never won a World Cup is a total irrelevance. Pele and Maradona won the cup not only because of their own brilliance, but also because of that of their team mates. The standard of the oppo is also a factor.

But for sheer brilliance, where his world class team mates hold him in awe, and he can win matches by himself, I'd say Messi has to be the greatest. There was a time when I thought Pele would never be bettered, but I think Messi has done just that.

I agree. I really hope he scoes a hat trick or a last minute winner against chile in the final to put to bed the myth he doesn't shine for argentina. watching that copa del ray final took my breath away. when he picked the ball up on the right near the half way line i thought "no, he isn't is he?" but he just kept going past everyone before his finish. just sat there dumfounded. only time I felt like watching football was when owen scored that goal against argentina wc98 and ronaldihnos toe punt finish against Chelsea at the bridge in CL

Depay midfielder IMO (but could go either way... to be honest, Sanchez could have last year, but he has primarily played a midfield role so I can't see him being changed).

Don't think Walcott will be changed for the season either, even though there's a chance he could primarily play as a striker for Arsenal this season.

100% if Pards plays him in the number 10 position (as he did behind Remy for Newcastle in 2013/14 when he was a great FPL pick).

May opt for Bolasie instead if Cabeye's played deeper and is say £1m more expensive.

Can see a SOT mid to CPL mid transfer pre-GW7 in my team.

Never realised Holtby was still a Spurs player until today. What a disappointing move that turned out to be

He rejected their offer. He told Inter to sell someone else or to find him a better team.

But that was the word of yesterday already. And yet they're still working on the transfer. So maybe he hasn't made his mind so completely.

£12M for Shaqiri. Still a risk worth taking. Not, of course, if the guy doesn't want to join the club.

however as a puchaser of clever signings he's good-kompany +bojan being highlights
I wish him and stoke well with another ambitious move
      this year muniesa to shine

just watched highlights of argentina 6 Paraguay 1. although messi played well its strange not to see him score a goal when his team scores 6. di maria scored 2. any of you think he might be brilliant for utd this season?

Messi always tends to disappear outside Barca. He's been unimpressive throughout the entire cup. United should definitely NOT sell ADM.

Football is not all about goals mate. Sounds like you haven't watched any matches, possibly just the highlights.

He doesn't tend to disappear. He carried a mediocre and almost attackless Argentina team to the World Cup finals on his shoulders.

I've just been looking at prices. Danny Welbeck more expensive than David Silva.

Not sure if this is news anymore, but Juventus has revealed that they have turned down Barcelona's €80M bid for Pogba. They assure that they have no plans to sell Pogba. They seem to be determined to built the team around him - or to get an even crazier fee. Since the FFP sanctions on City and PSG are officially lifted any moment now, City and PSG should join the race soon.
