The Numbers Game – 2014/15 Review – West Ham

Our members articles analysing last season are completed today with a review of West Ham’s performances. The Hammers entered 2014/15 in reasonable health, having finished 13th in the Premier League in the previous campaign, although they only gained 40 points and did flirt with the relegation zone before finally confirming their top-flight status.

Plenty of changes were made in both playing and coaching personnel at Upton Park last summer, with forwards Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho brought in, while Teddy Sheringham joined up as an attacking coach. Cheikhou Kouyate and Aaron Cresswell were also signed, while Carl Jenkinson and Alex Song moved to the Hammers on season-long loans.

In this members article, we asses the main goal threats and creators in Sam Allardyce’s final year at the helm and also compare the team’s attacking numbers to the previous year.

      That Dick loves Coates.. Muniesa could be a bargain.. Mertesacker + 0.5 could be worth it over kosc.. Milner has integrated well in the pool attack.. My Fabregas +2.5 over Hazard punt may well be worth it until the Wildcard

      Saylor probably isn't gonna start unfortunately. Don't think any of the 4.0s are gonna pay off, they all seem to just be transfers waiting to happen this season.

      Saylor was the worst player on the pitch in newcastles last friendly. Doubt he will start the season. Mbemba will be first choice but maybe not for the first game or two.

    before todays game: i had walcott, giroud (and ozil), hazard (was thinking of fabregas because of consistancy + 2.5m) and azpi.

    After the game:
    . im not sure what to do with my walcott and giroud pair (i was always happy with them)
    .fabregas played in the hole and looked good (as a position might be better than hazard)
    .azpi looked poor at least to jose and he was substituted which isnt a good sign
    . aresnal defence looked good...better than chelsea

    questions:
    1. should i get rid of walcott and giroud?? or just one of them?
    2. if the answer to the previous question is yes, who for?? sterling and benteke?
    3. should i keep azpi or switch to an arsenal def??
    4. bellerin or mertz or monreal??

    Walcott/Giroud is too risky for me. Even if Theo starts, he might only get an hour. Ox is great but when Sanchez is back (probably GW2) then he'll be benched I expect as Walcott could go back into midfield.

    Hazard is so expensive but not having him could be costly.

    I want the Adebayor to Villa deal to go through. He's a great third striker and I think he'd do well.

    Looks solid mate, I wouldn't be in a rush doing Hendo/Depay with pool facing Bournemouth week 2 I would be content with Rooney. Prefer Kos to Mert but Mert is fine
