The Fantasy Football Scout Dugout FC League draft night is now just over 24-hours away.

For those who missed our introductory article, Dugout FC is a new draft-based Fantasy game that’s totally free to play and allows you to join or create a custom league, made up of multiple divisions.

There’s full promotion and relegation between the divisions and the game itself is driven by an Opta-based scoring system so advanced, Dugout FC are convinced it’s one of the best around.

Be sure to soak up our article for a full rundown of the features and why you should get involved.

It’s not too late to sign up and take part in draft night.

This takes place on Thursday at 9pm UK time.

You’ll either have to be online and in your division’s draft room for that time, or you’ll need to have set up your shortlist, which will be used by the automated system to select your squad.

Tactics for Draft Night

Dugout FC’s draft system is classified as a “snake” draft.

The team with the first overall pick selects, followed by the team with the second pick, third pick, and so on. At the end of the first round, the team that just drafted (with the last pick in the first round) will have the first pick in the second round and the round continues in reverse order.

There are ten teams in a division and with 18 players required in each squad, there will be 18 rounds of picks before each of the teams are complete.

During the draft, you’ll have two minutes to claim your pick before your shortlist kicks in and selects a player on your behalf.

Preparation for draft night is key and the first step, aside from forming your shortlist in Dugout FC, is to form a ranking sheet for the players on your list.

This will structure your targets in order of preference – the bigger your list, the more you’ll have to turn to on the night as the two minutes ticks down on your selection.

The obvious tactic is to work down your list, prioritising your high rank players, although there will be times when you’ll consider reacting to the selections of others, perhaps promoting a player in your ranking list or even bringing in a new player. Fundamentally, however, for at least the first three or four rounds, it’s a good idea to stick to your decided ranks in order to start your squad with a foundation of players that you have some confidence in. After that, you can consider taking risks.

Your first round pick is crucial and, while it’s tempting to target midfied heavy-hitters such as Eden Hazard or Alexis Sanchez from the off, you may be better advised to address your strikers first.

While Hazard and Sanchez are set to be the top scoring midfielders on show, it’s worth considering that, the gap between those two and the likes of David Silva, Raheem Sterling and Santi Cazorla may only be 30-40 points.

However, the gap between the leading striker and the chasing pack could be far greater. Sergio Aguero amassed 242 points in Dugout FC last season, the fifth ranked striker – Diego Costa – scored 86 fewer points.

In a nutshell, the drop-off in midfield between the very top ranks and those in the top ten was lower than that in the top ten strikers. Therefore, booking yourself a proven goalscorer could be the most viable tactic for the opening round.

With rotation and early season teamsheets still in transition, it also stands to reason that you are more likely to be pick up worthy free agents in midfield.

Player Versatility

Having said all that, it should be noted that Dugout FC have introduced the concept of versatility into the game. Hazard, for example, can be deployed either as a midfielder or a forward in your formation. You should take a note of these players as, securing an asset who can fulfil a number of roles offers flexibility and can help cover injuries.

Note that, Hazard and other versatile players, will score differently depending on where you play them: the Belgian won’t earn a point for a clean sheet whilst playing up front but will be more likely to earn a points for accurate passes, since he’ll only need to complete 30 per point earned.

The Scoring Model

Be sure to check in on Dugout FC’s scoring model to be clear on the match events at play and how these are applied, in particular, across the positions.

The scoring is finely balanced between full-backs and centre-backs but you’ll want to either target dominant defenders who win a raft of aerial balls, or forward-thinking full-backs who provided a ready supply of accurate crosses.

The criteria for midfielders is pretty clear – aside from goals and assists, those who make 40+ accurate passes, accompanied with chances created, should be high on your list of priorities.

However, given that there are points earned for fouls won, you should also factor in those players who frequently run at opponents and draw fouls – again, Hazard and Sanchez spring to mind, but there are others.

While Hazard suffered the most fouls (he was impeded every 31 minutes), Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish surpasses this frequency – he was fouled every 26 minutes on his introduction to Tim Sherwood’s lineup. Equally, Sadio Mane should be a target in this respect – he was fouled every 29 minutes for Southampton.

Up front, it’s clearly all about goals and shots, although again, big centre forwards who also draw fouls and who link play to complete 30 passes per match, offer some handy supplementary points.

Dugout FC’s player list offers a full rundown of last season’s points to offer guidance on your draft night priorities. This, combined with the statistics in our members area, should help you form your ranking list ahead of tomorrow evening.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Once again, if you’re yet to sign up, it’s not too late.

We’re running a Fantasy Football Scout League which you’ll find when scanning leagues. Just click for an invite and you’ll be added to one of our divisions ahead of Thursday’s draft.

Good luck to all on draft night. Let’s see if I can’t snatch Aleks Kolarov.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Your Aguero in strategy is upgrade Rooney and downgrade either Haz to Fab/Oscar or one of the Arsea midfielders to a budget midfielder. There's a plenty of them.

      RMT

      Ruddy | Rudd
      Cedric | Lescott | (Richards | Huth | Holebas)
      Hazard | Walcott | Mane | Mahrez | Sinclair
      Aguero | Rooney | Wilson

      - WC in GW8, but think the defence could support me until GW12 if forced
      - I will play Cedric and Lescott each week; aware of WBA fixtures, but trust Tony
      - I will rotate Mahrez, Sinclair and Wilson as appropriate
      - Walcott + Mane --> Sanchez + Puncheon if forced

      How did I do?

First RMT('s). Any thoughts on this?

      A)
      Ruddy / Butland
      Koscielny / Cedric / Huth / Richards / Coates
      Hazard / Özil / Depay / Mane / Fletcher
      Rooney / Kane / Wilson

      B)
      Ruddy / Butland
      Koscielny / Cedric / Huth / Williams / Coates
      Hazard / Walcott / Mane / Chadli / Fletcher
      Rooney / Benteke / Sakho
      +0.5 ITB

      So, basically: Özil/Depay/Kane/Wilson vs. Walcott/Chadli/Benteke/Sakho

This is my team for the moment (0.5 M ITB):

      Schmeichel - Ruddy

      Azpi - Mert - Ward - Huth - Francis

      Hazard - Cazorla - Sterling - Henderson - Wanyama

      Costa - Wilson - Benteke

      Do I :
A = Leave as it is
B = Benteke to Rooney and Sterling to Sigurdsson/Chadli
      C = Costa to Rooney (1 M ITB)

      Norwich vs Crystal BTTS

Your midfield seems a bit risky. 3/4 are big question marks. I'd transfer someone more "stable" in to balance it out.

            Panti Hennesey
            Cedric Martin Gomez Francis Jenkinson
            Hazard Sterling Walcott Mane Fletcher
            Rooney Benteke Sakho

I really want Sinclair for Fletcher, to fund this

            A: Panti to Schmeichel
            B: Walcott to Ozil
C: Just leave it above 4.5 5th mid is a luxury

I would leave it. The only time you will play Sinclair is if you sit Sakho. Sakho has a good run of fixtures after the Arsenal game, so I'd assume you are playing him for those games. As a result, I don't think you need to upgrade Fletcher.

Yep your right but the all out attack chip changes things, would be nice to have that, plus Sinclair rotates West Hams tough early always nicely

If you want to get Sinclair in, I think you downgrade your keeper then. I'm honestly not the biggest believer in Sunderland, though I have their defenders in my team. I think Walcott's potential is worth the 0.5m gamble to start the season.

                    1. Jay_
                        10 years, 7 months ago

Thanks for feedback, yep Schmeichel I much prefer than downgrading Walcott, Sunderlands fixtures are just so tasty though, they probably have the easiest first 10 games out of anyone, not having defensive coverage could be damaging, I could mess up my rotation and being in Coates but not sure if nailed, bloody headache and a half 🙂

Yeah. I have the same issue. Panti is good value, but I can't fit in the attackers I want without his 0.5m. I have Coates, but I honestly cannot tell if he will play or who will play for Sunderland. I'm just going off what I am reading here (initially had O'Shea), but I swear I've changed Sunderland defenders five times now. D:

Jenkinson is 100 % nailed and I think he will match Cresswell for points now Payet is here, you will be benching him GW1 anyway, with Ranieri and Morgan back, it might be a good idea to switch Huth to Francis of Bournemouth, play Ivan and Cedric and rotate Jenkinson and Francis each week, look at fixtures first 8 WHU and BOU so damn tasty 😀

okay thank you for your input i think ill change to jenks and have alook at bournemouths defenders, is francis a RB/LB ? attacking returns over the CBs?

I know nothing of their defence apart from what I've read on here, Francis is a attacking RB that supplied more crosses than any defender in championship last season( or something like that)?

Jenkinson played something like 35 games for them last year and was brought back for a second loan. I really doubt they'd sit him if they liked him enough to bring him back for a second year.

Otherwise it looks good. I'd personally prefer Ozil/Cazorla over Ramsey, but that's just opinion really.

thanks, and if you want to can you explain why you prefer ozil and caz over ramsey? my reasons are ozil, hardly even scores and gets an assist at best, caz just takes pens he only goal source and will get less assists than people think as he plays deeper now, Ramsey is a goal scorer and is always making runs into the box, he will 100% score more than Ozil and caz aswell

Ozil has the best statistics and has looked the sharp in preseason, as well as the end of last year. He plays through the middle and should see most of the attack going through him.

Cazorla also takes the other dead balls. His best run of form came last year while playing beside Coquelin (I think), so I don't think the deeper position is an issue. Steady fantasy performer.

Ramsey is probably going to be pushed out to the right flank again and, as a result, will have to battle with Walcott and Chamberlain for minutes.

                            Just my two cents.

what do you mean by best statistics, surely fpl is just about goals and assists which ramsey gets more than caz and ozil without any argument, i understand the punt that they will do good, but ramsey is just so much better fpl wise imo, thanks for your side of the argument anyway, good to see a different pov

By statistics, I mean Ozil has the most chances created. Those statistics suggest that he should be getting more assists than he is now.

I understand the Ramsey pick and he was in my initial draft, but I'm more wary of his playing time than anything. Cazorla and Ozil are probably the two surest things in their attack.

Looking at my team as it is right now I have 3 Soton players... Def + Mane and Pelle. Too much? Worth downgrading somewhere to get an extra 0.5 to do Pelle -> Tekkers?

too much i think. Look what the Europa league done to Everton.

IMO 1 of Mane, Tadic or Pelle

                        Targett doesn't count.

I think he'll start the first game with Williamson. I expect Mbemba to be eased in and it wouldn't surprise me to see Taylor and Coloccini for the first few games at least.

Hey chaps, getting a tad confused, bed a bit of RMT reassurance/advice

                        Courtois/Pantilimon

Darien - Clyne - Bellerin - Van Aanholt - Targett

                        Hazard - Walcott - Depay - Ibe - Larsson

Tekkers - Rooney - Wilson or Deeney

So I seem to have turned into a Sunderland fan overnight and aware that Ibe may not start and stuck on Wilson or Deeney so any suggestions greatly appreciated. Cheers

I like A because it is probably more flexible moving forward, spreads the love around more. with that said benteke's gw1 status is still something that you probably want to monitor.

if you played B would you start sahko this gw or play someone else?

For those who keep dismissing Lukaku..
He's scored 36 goals in his previous two season for Everton (All competitions)
When Wayne Rooney was 22 years + 88 days old, he'd scored his 100th senior career goal. He was tipped for stardom. Lukaku, scored his 100th senior career goal 3 months short of his 22nd birthday.
Between 2012-2015, the highest premier league top scorers are Aguero 55, Suarez 54, RVP 48, and Lukaku 42. Yet, he's half a decade or more younger.
He's scored 2 vs Liverpool and Arsenal, and 1 vs Man City in his previous 2 seasons, and along with numerous chances created in the big games. Yet he's always branded as not being able to perform in big games. He's also, not in a elite team with World class players who can give him the service he needs. Whilst, Aguero, Suarez and Van Perise always had a world class team mate.
If Everton can add a decent creative player this summer, you'd be mad not to consider Lukaku, at a brilliant 8.0M! And of course, Primary penalty taker.
                        Thoughts?

Now that he's on pens I plan to get him in once the fixtures clear up. Yes he can score in the big games, but Everton have a really dire run of fixtures to start the season which gives us time to evaluate.

he's a good player, just doesn't have great fixtures after gw1. Many are against him as he's let them down in easy fixtures previously (not a reason to dismiss imo)

Everything you said about Lukaku is correct, the real question marks are around the Everton team as a whole. Was last season was an aberration because of Europa League, untimely injuries (Mccarthy, etc) or an omen of Martinez struggling to put together the correct pieces on pitch?

I think it is the former and like others have said, Lukaku, Stones, Coleman, Mirallas, Barkley all could become decent options once the fixtures open up. If everton start to perform like they had been prior to last season, Lukaku could very well be relatively fixture proof option. The team is pretty talented, just hope that everyone stays healthy!

                        C) Azpi and Chadli (as opposed to Ritchie)
