[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

Five players toppled off the Suspension Tightrope this Gameweek, as James Milner, Jeffrey Schlupp, Erik Pieters, Fernandinho and Jack Colback totted up their fifth cautions of the campaign and incurred a one-match ban.

Fortunately for the former quartet, they will serve out their suspensions in Capital One Cup clashes in midweek. Colback, on the other hand, misses Newcastle’s home tie against Stoke next Gameweek as the Magpies were knocked out in the previous round of the competition by Sheffield Wednesday. The midfielder was already a doubt for the Potters clash anyway, after he was forced off early in the second period due to a challenge from Lee Cattermole – early reports indicate he left the stadium on crutches.

In terms of other new suspensions, Fabricio Coloccini received a straight red for a foul on Steven Fletcher that led to the Black Cats’ penalty opener. Like Colback, he’ll be unavailable for selection when the Magpies welcome Stoke to St James’ Park, though reports this evening suggest that the Tyneside team are set to appeal the decision.

Post match, Magpies manager Steve McClaren clearly felt that whistler Bobby Madley made a match-changing error:

“It’s simple: he’s wrong in my opinion. Referees are part and parcel of the game and you control your performance – you can’t control the opponent or the referee and they can affect the result, and they have done today, not so much the opponent, but definitely the referee.”

McClaren’s opposite number, Sam Allardyce, also reckoned the dismissal was a little harsh on the Argentine:

“We’ve taken full of advantage of a piece of good fortune. I did think it’s a foul, personally. I’ve had a look at it. If he hadn’t made contact with him, I think Steven Fletcher would have scored. It was on his left foot, on his best side. It [the red card] is a bit harsh, but those are the rules and we’ve taken full advantage of that today. We had a harsh decision go against us last week, this week it went for us. I thought it was a penalty. The fortunate thing is the sending off”.

Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic and Everton veteran Gareth Barry were both given their marching orders for two bookable offences but also fulfil their obligations in midweek cup matches. Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is unconcerned over Barry’s midweek absence for a home clash with Norwich, claiming “he was going to be rested anyway”.

Sadio Mane was sent off in a farcical turn of events at Anfield, entering the referee’s notebook twice in stoppage time after bagging an equaliser in the 85th minute. Much to the relief of his 9% ownership, the Senegal international serves his time when Saints play host to Aston Villa in the League Cup, returning for a tasty home fixture against the Cherries.

Elsewhere on the Tightrope, Jonjo Shelvey edged one step closer to a brief spell on the sidelines, earning his fourth yellow of the season. Ciaran Clark, Eliaquim MangalaMatteo Darmian, Oriol Romeu, Billy Jones, Dele AlliMark Noble, Erik Lamela and Claudio Yacob make up the numbers in a ten-strong band of miscreants.

Dwight Gayle completed his one-match ban and returns to Crystal Palace’s squad for their home encounter against Manchester United next Gameweek. With Connor Wickham still uncertain to recover in time from a calf complaint, the 5.1-priced marksman is likely to lead the line ahead of Fraizer Campbell and Patrick Bamford.

As always, mainly thanks to our resident Tightrope expert Anorak, who has been keeping us up-to-date via his twitter stream.

Looks like 32 will be the safety score in LMS.
The computer scoring system is down by manually 32 looks good.
About a 10% chance that it will drop to 31 depending on hits from above.

I agree, özil is a sensible FPL'er and knows better than to double up on an Everton defence which is without Jagielka.

This Costa replacement dilemma is extremely frustrating.

    A) Bony (NOR, avl)
Spearhead of a City attack, facing the worst side in the league next. However Bony himself has looked very average and maybe a Sterling upfront due to Silva being back could be seen...?

    B) Lukaku (SUN, whm... Great fixtures)
Everton show poor form but now a nice home to Sunderland fixture. Not too keen on him myself but it was the planned transfer a good couple of weeks ago. On pens too.

    C) Kane (AVL, ars...)
A nice Villa on a MNF to boost that green arrow 🙂 On form, maybe Hurrikane is back? On pens too and Spurs are on good attacking form. Villa bottom of the table.

Spurs have some decent fixtures coming up and he could be a nice little differential. Mane is also an option but I have pelle so that would make triple Soton. Also don't trust Barkley to bring in the points on a regular basis, think the Everton hype is a bit much around here

    Shocker of a week again...

I knew my defence was rubbish but figured there was as much chance of CS's in Villa vs the Swans as City vs United so didn't bother strengthening and played Richards and Williams.

How wrong could I be...Gameweek attacking stats per team...

http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/3846/ ...Bottom two and fourth from bottom...sheesh....

Equally bad in UFPL where I put a lot of eggs in the Newcastle basket....I don't regret that though as they did everything but score...Oh well...Onwards and downwards...

Oh well, so I got 28 this week.

    Big deal.
My local team here in Sweden won their last home game of the season.
We are top of the table going in to the last fixture.
Could be our first win since 89 and a qualification to Champions League next season(if not Malmö wins the damn thingy, then we are in).
Just need to beat Malmö away in the last fixture to seal the deal.
    I'm a happy camper.

Fair to say WBA will struggle to keep a CS in any of their next 6 fixtures? Thinking Dawson > Smalling

I think I'd rather bench Dawson in the really tough games than sell him. WBA will be reliable all season.

Yeah but 6 straight tough games. Worth selling then bringing back i would think

I'm likely to sell another defender and have both WBA and United. Can't lose really.

Yeah but Pulis could pop out with a surprise. Still see United keeping more and Smalling has great attacking threat.

I'd prefer Smalling to Dawson. Won't be surprised to see Dawson get some cs or a goal tho.

With Aguero being out, is this the best time to play the AOA, maybe not this week, but strengthen the team and play it over the next couple of weeks?

The only good time to play AOA is when you don't have three defs. Pure lottery otherwise

It's a rubbish chip...An extra midfielder isn't any more of a better pick than a defender on a one week basis...Maybe over ten games or a whole season perhaps...

Agreed rubbish chip but with all the Aguero money maybe worth investing in the front 8 and go for it, when Agueros back you are likely to have a cheap mid and fwd

Westwood will drop this week, I'm thinking doing Costa to Lukaku and Westwood to Tadic -4 and playing AOA, Bournemouth has a touch of Sunderland last year gw8 feel about it, that will be Aguero funds locked in to a easy downgrade then without overloading on defence, over thinking or a decent idea ?

It's a shame Tadic wasn't a bit more explosive, but with pens in his locker and 50 points already this season his a good shout, be nice to have 2 Saints attackers at the party too

    1. Is it safe to go next week without ANY City player?

    If yes.

    A) - Costa - Bony FT
    B) - Costa, Ayew - Lukaku, KDB (-4 hit)
    C) - wait till presser and do Ayew - Silva
    D) - sell one of defenders (Francis) to get Kolarov or Kompany

    Current team:

    Butland / Schmeichel
    Francis / Bellerin / Cedric / Dawson / Oxford
    Samchez / KDB / Wanyama / Ayew / Mahrez
    Martial / Vardy / Costa

    2.2m ITB

    Opting against WC but...

    Wan --> Mane
    Costa --> Lukaku

    Makes sense?

Ighalo will hopefully start performing during his home games now lad: One goal vs (SWA) only thus far in his home games - (WBA, SOU, SWA, CRY, ARS). Granted these are generally pretty solid defenses, and he's up against (WHU) next week.

Four goals and two assists in his away games fwiw (eve, mci, new, bou, stk).

    Interesting lad to consider.

Vardy -> Ighalo in week 14 looks interesting

Woah, for a short term three/four games only then? (avl, NOR, sun, LIV).

Still deciding whether to keep him or not, great value enabler who's performing well. Gives me a good 5th mid to bench Ighalo vs (MUN) and obviously other matches. Yet suddenly, Kane, Lukaku, & Pelle all have arguably better matches this week & long term. Those players are certainly captaincy options too though.

        Choices, choice, choices.
