Wednesday evening finds us popping out for the Weekly Shop, plundering the player lists of our partner games to assess the likely targets that will make up our weekend lineups.

Our analysis of the options is split into two sections: I’ll breakdown the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re scanning the players lists in our two partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt.

Better Buys

Manchester United may be struggling in attack but have been defensively sound with four shut-outs in five: they’ve conceded just a single goal at Old Trafford to date.

That ensures that David de Gea (FantasyBet 5.5m, Premier Punt 9m) is the standout option across the weekly games. The Spaniard has made three or more saves in four of his seven league appearances so far, with his shot-stopping abilities earning two bonus points against Crystal Palace in United’s previous outing. Given West Brom’s lack of punch, it’s difficult to see De Gea being breached at Old Trafford.

Jurgen Klopp’s reliance on full-backs to provide the attacking width within his system has Alberto Moreno (FantasyBet 5m, Premier Punt 8.4m) promoted up from the Poundstretcher classification. Moreno’s raiding runs down the flank have resulted in the left-back having more goal attempts (six) over the last three than any other defender. Liverpool welcome a Crystal Palace side that have scored just once in their last three matches on the road.

Riyad Mahrez (FantasyBet 6.5m, Premier Punt 9.9m) proved once again that ignoring his talents can be damaging; a brace against West Brom brought his total for the season to seven goals in 11 matches. The Algerian’s consistency has been a huge asset and, having blanked on just three occasions so far, I’m finding it difficult to look beyond Mahrez heading into the home meeting with Watford.

Arsenal have won five successive league matches and have averaged three goals a game over that run. Mesut Ozil (FantasyBet 8.5m, Premier Punt 13.3m) has been the prime architect for that impressive record with seven assists and a goal, making the German playmaker a must-have in Sunday’s north London derby. Team-mate Olivier Giroud (FantasyBet 9m, Premier Punt 14m) is also one to consider, with a goal in each of his last three – the Frenchman remains assured of starts with Theo Walcott sidelined.

Elsewhere in attack, I’m currently assessing Christian Benteke (FantasyBet 8.5m, Premier Punt 13m) as a key candidate. The Belgian has suffered limited pitch time but he looks certain to start against Palace and has scored in three of his last four Premier League outings. Carrying on from Villa last season, Benteke now has 15 goals in 19 top-flight appearances: that makes him impossible to ignore.

Poundstretchers

Leicester picked up their first clean sheet of the season in their previous match at the King Power and Kasper Schmeichel (FantasyBet 4.5m, Premier Punt 7.6m) will be eager to improve on that record with the visit of promoted Watford. Odion Ighalo will be a major threat if he recovers from a knock, but, despite his form, I foresee another call to the Pizza Parlour for Ranieri’s men.

I’m also looking at Jeffrey Schlupp in FantasyBet, where he’s classified as a 5.0 defender. Whilst confidence in Leicester’s defence is understandably shaky, few can doubt their devastating attacking threat. Schlupp, on the left-flank or even in the number ten role, looks a very handy defensive differential.

Sunderland have conceded two or more goals seven times this season, which has me lean towards Southampton’s assets as they drop in on the Stadium of Light this weekend. Dusan Tadic (FantasyBet 7m, Premier Punt 10.8m) has outscored Sadio Mane (FantasyBet 8m, Premier Punt 12.1m) overall after picking up an assist against Bournemouth and is also a cheaper alternative to Graziano Pelle (FantasyBet 8m, Premier Punt 12.2m).

We drop in on Bournemouth for our budget striker pick this week. Glenn Murray (FantasyBet 6m, Premier Punt 7.6m) has two in four for Eddie Howe’s side and the veteran frontman could be up against Newcastle’s fourth choice keeper, with Robert Elliot the latest to be struck by injury.

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups heading into the weekend. I’ll return on Friday with a further assessment of this week’s partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

Would you take a hit to ensure a proper standin for Bellerin, if he doesn't play?

Meaning I have to swap Dawson (crappy fixtures + not comfortable doubling up against MUN)

    Myhill
    Bellerin Moreno Cedric
    KDB Sanchez Payet Mahrez
    Pelle Lukaku Vardy

    (Butland Dawson Richards Westwood)

    ITB: 4.7

    A) Dawson -> ? who?
    B) Save

His freekicks could honestly be the reason people on here dont get him.. Every time someone mentions Willian they say "He wont score a direct freekick every week so he is not reliable(though funnily enough he has scored plenty 😆 ) "
It's the fact that he is Chelsea's main corner and indirect free kick taker too and the fact that he is in the form of his life atm(He is the guy being double marked in games atm 😯 ) , plays either in the hole or on the right of a front 3 of Chelsea with a great fixture run looming that i'd get him. Also, i would not be surprised(though i am assuming a lot here) if he takes the next peno. Hazard does not look guaranteed a start or a peno if he does/I dont think Mourinho has every been convinced by Costa's penos and Willian is now Mourinho's main man and took the first of the penalties vs Stoke.

Btw i'm getting him in next week for sure.. i have a habit of putting my money where my mouth is. In for one of the City boys(KDB/Yaya) .. infact i am waiting a week only cause i dunno which one of those i want to get rid 🙂

I would not be surprised in the least if he is on them. Infact i'm pretty sure he is after the Stoke penalty and the love that MOurinho has been sending his way the past few weeks

I bet he is Mou's main man atm.
From his after-match presser yesterday, Mou seem to have given the key to Willian.

Yup.. he is the main man atm. Never seen him play this well and with so much of confidence before(infact i'd never have expected it)! If Chelsea hit form(and after last night i have a HUGE feeling they will) couple with the fixtures they have coming up Willian will be gold. I'm taking the plunge for sure.. i just got to wait for nearly 2 weeks before making the move 🙠.. Hope he does not start a mini bandwagon this weekend. want him nice and cheap when i make the move 🙂

oh btw.. Willian averaged 4.6 ppg over the last 2 seasons.. now he's been given a LOT more attacking and set piece responsibilty. Gonna be another example of a big hitter hiding out among the budget mids

He definitely is not the best free kick taker in Europe and if you look at his historical free kick conversion rate and compare it to this season, some heavy regression is bound to happen.

Payet is one of the best set piece takers in the world, btw. Has been for a long time. Have you witnessed him shooting from free kick yet at West Ham? He mostly gives them indirect, but he can do this too:

It's a bit shame that he shoots so rarely. He's got one heckuva shot to him, and his chance creation from indirect free kicks is outstanding. I just think he could score a fairly few goals from free kicks if he just tried that more often.

Indeed. But it requires both he and Slaven to take responsibility for that situation. I am hopeful.

It think Slaven has relatively little to do with the problem. Payet has never had a penchant for a shot from set pieces. Don't know why. He took more shots last season under Balsa's orders, maybe Valbuena leaving Marseille was a factor, maybe Bielsa was a big factor. I watched all Marseille's Bielsa era goals before the FPL season, and don't recall Payet scored any free kicks though, and considering that he assisted so many from set pieces, maybe he's after all right to resort to his cross rather than his shot. But there's also a chance that with the small sample luck was a big factor.

Those last season goals, for your entertainment:

Btw, that is a goal that will never be forgotten. I watched it on telly back then, it was the 100th Rhone derby. At the moment, St. Étienne were top of the league much due to Payet's incredible, unstoppable form, while Lyon was in bottom table, but it was still early season, September, and in truth Lyon was still quite big and were absolutely thrashing St. Étienne in that match, but just couldn't get the goal. St. Étienne was nowhere to be seen all match but then, 15 minutes to the end, they get their first half-chance, a free kick from 25+ meters, wide right... You've seen what happened next.

Maybe, if you talk about historical data.
But I am considering him now, that is for this season.
Ronaldo is on the decline with freekicks, Messi hasn't been scoring many, Bale doesn't get the opportunity, Eriksen finding his feet..

Yeah, his stats are going to regress _this_ season.

You are not listing the really best free kick takers, btw. Apart from Messi, who seems to be around the top of the world in every single attacking aspect of the game.

It means the team you posted is good for the weekend. Nothing needs changing.

One think you could look at I suppose is playing Ighalo over Mane. Personal choice though

Don't like bony at all.. Nacho and Sterling could both easily oust him...

I got Bony in for the Norwich and Villa games and then he'll be out for Liverpool game so he's staying captain.

Got him in for last game and this game. Might as well risk it. He got an assist and goal against Sevilla

If you had to pick one defender for next 3, who would you pick?

Already have Moreno, Bellerin and don't want Smalling (too pricey).

    Thanks guys!!!

        Thanks MCHU.

I know I said for next 3 games, but maybe it would be smarter to think long term.

Choosing between those myself, I like Rojo (only thing is everybody here says he's not nailed on, so would not like to make one more transfer later)

Berty seems better for my team long term I think, already have Targett (still :)) and if Berty gets injured Targett takes his place. So no transfer needed there.

        Decisions, decisions. 🙂

    Ok next question..

What do we think are Tottenham's chances at Arsenal this week. Don't particularly care if they win lose or draw...I'm talking about scoring some goals. Eriksen is my point of interest here. He's trolled me with one assist in 8 goals last two games, oh what could have been. And I know if I sell the git he's going to troll me again.

So, Spurs to score? Arsenal defence rattled after a 5-1 shellacking? Or back to business as usual?

Pre-Jol you could predict a NLD in the Premiership.....Arsenal would invariably win. Nowadays it is a very difficult fixture to call. But I do expect goals from both sides.

Eriksen is again tough to call, Spurs have shown that they do score without him. He is like Ozil pre-current form. Plenty of class, can go absent and can return zero returns even when having a good game

Well I've come my weekly shop - this week a defender - but the goods all come with issues:

Moreno - are Liverpud a reliable source of cs now? Great price though and attacking threat
Bellerin-a straight swap with Kolorov was planned but now that Bellerin is injured I'll have to put on hold.
VDV - like LIV, are STH capable of cs? Bit expensive, attacking threat
Simpson-3.9 and good fixture this week. Frees up cash and is solely a bench enabler nothing more.
Ake - 4.4 and a good source of cs...at home at least.
Smalling - no point when DDG is 5.4

    What sayeth you wise sage?

I think a Man united defender is the best option, atm. Fancy taking a risk with Rojo/Jones?

If not, VvD looks your best bet.

DDG looks the best one as he's the cheapest way into UTD defence. Not sure if I can trust STH just yet.
