Following on from Halloween, it’s time to revisit a horror show Gameweek from Granville.

Having gathered an array of green arrows in recent weeks, my ScoutCast co-host produced a pair of transfer howlers, watching on from behind the sofa as both Philippe Coutinho and Riyad Mahrez banged nails into his Gameweek coffin.

Jonty and I do our best to dwell on Granville’s misery for as long as possible, before attempting to cheer him up with similarly scary tales from the community in “Rough with the Smooth”.

We then take on your questions, debating Leicester’s legs, United’s decline and whether we can actually tame the Fantasy Football troll that is Romelu Lukaku.

This episode of the ScoutCast was broadcast live on Tuesday evening (before the news on Hector Bellerin’s injury) via our YouTube channel.

You can catch the full un-edited version of this episode via the larger player below, or take in the “polished” audio effort via this link or the smaller player.

You can get wind of future episodes by subscribing to our YouTube channel.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

While everyone is looking to get Aguero in. I'll be getting Costa, Chelsea's run in the next 6 is tasty. Chelsea are still Chelsea, they'll come good soon enough.

I'd rather chase for a week than have thier players 10 GWs early and waste time when I could've had other good options. You do realize every fit striker in the top10 in FPL this season scored last GW, it's not like there's a lack options out there. The only risky one is actually Costa and he offers nothing more than Ighalo for example, except that he's 2 times more expensive.

Chelsea are still Chelsea (ie not as attacking as City) and Costa is still Costa (ie not as good as Aguero).

Add in the fact that they're currently in turmoil and I'll happily take Kun over Costa.

Yes they do. I don't think we have a target. We keep fiddling with the tournament to make it as fair as possible on the number of teams we have. Then more teams apply and we do it all again

    On behalf on Wild Rover

    Rare long post from me

Still seeing a constant flow of questions about when to play the AOA chip but the truth is, unless you get really lucky it has very little value. The chances of all of your front eight scoring well in the same week is minimal and even then you can bet one or more of your defenders on the bench also scores well. As far as I can see there are only two situations where it is worth playing.

    1) You have a front eight who all have good fixtures and can't decide who to bench.

While this won't guarantee you success and some will likely fail, it will at least ensure you don't bench the one with the highest score, but there is still a chance one or more defender scores better than some of your front eight. Risky if you have three def's also with good fixtures.. and you will still captain the wrong player

    2) You can't field three defenders due to bans, injuries or being out of favour, or your 3rd, 4th and 5th defenders have terrible fixtures. Although it gives you a better chance of at least having eleven players, it's not likely to bring much success if Westwood or Wanyama is your fifth mid. There is also a risk one of your mid's doesn't play, your Bournemouth defender comes in away to Arsenal and you lose your chip.

Best bet for me? Probably wait until you have awful fixtures for defenders and use a freebie to upgrade 8th fwd/mid assuming you don't already have Ighalo or similar.

      What I learned:

      Debuchy is really, really bad.
I should play Dawson over the more attractive defenders like Coleman.
      Eriksen is a great choice.
Playing Begovic is 50/50. Could work with Stoke being poor.
      Newcastle are still awful.
      Liverpool have improved.
Pelle is hard to bench. Using AOA instead.
      Bench Williams.
Watford v Leicester will be close.
Bellerin is a decent player to start.
      Kane is back?
Koscielny the BAP man is back...gets too injured though
Pelle is poor away but Sunderland are awful so he should be fine
Lucas has massively improved Liverpool's defence
Giroud is a decent option up front

"The Frenchman prefers a possession-based style of football, with an onus on taking the game to the opposition. His Lyon side conceded more goals than you’d have expected for a team challenging at the higher echelons of the table, though, which will be a slight concern given the fragility of the Villa rearguard."

    Sounds promising for City...

I can't stand the Bony love. He has been so average from what I've seen. Just profiting from being in that team... but then again. outside of Pelle, Vardy and recently Lukaku and Kane there isn't really much else going..

profit is profit however you cut it. Giroud would be nowhere near as good a prospect in a mid table team either.

      And...

"Here's the major bad thing about Garde's Lyon teams. The number of individual errors that their defenders make is staggering. Lyon consistently have an excellent attack but the individual errors at the back have cost them so many points. Now, maybe this means that Garde is just a big picture guy, that he's not drilling the team on their concentration, positioning, etc. I honestly believe it's a product of him having such a young and inexperienced team. However, you can certainly see that he's not a defensive taskmaster."

Current results "prediction" for each match this weekend (based on each team's number of team goals spread bet mid-point on Spreadex)

    Bournemouth 1.55 Newcastle 1.25
    Leicester 1.7 Watford 1.05
    Man U 2.15 West Brom 0.55
    Norwich 1.35 Swansea 1.25
    Sunderland 0.9 Southampton 1.7
    West Ham 1.5 Everton 1.4
    Stoke 1 Chelsea 1.5
    Villa 0.85 Man City 2.15
    Arsenal 2 Spurs 1.1
    Liverpool 1.8 Palace 0.85

For example, if Bournemouth v Newcastle as played, say, 100 times, Spreadex reckon that Bournemouth would score 155 goals (i.e. a 1.55 average) and Newcastle 125 (i.e. a 1.25 average).

Predicted goals gone up by 0.05 in last 24 hours: Villa, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Man U, Newcastle, West Ham

Predicted goals gone down by 0.05 in last 24 hours: Palace, Stoke, Sunderland

If all movies had to replicate real life 100%, the film industry would be kak.

Not everyone watches the movie to analyse the science behind it...I watch a movie to enjoy it and relax, and Martian did just that - it was fantastic, imo.

          Everything's subjective aye 🙂

Indeed, that's what the book versions for 😉

Some of the characterizations didn't match the book, but all for the better imo. Obviously if you want more a detailed & in-depth look at the Martian's world, then go read the book. Movie was great though & it's got top critical acclaim as well.

I thought the story was not as far fetched as many Sci-Fi's out there and not so fantastical as to make it hard to suspend my disbelief.

I am no scientist so would not know (or care) regards scientific exactness.
The ending was always going to come out that way... everyone knows this when you go to watch a Hollywood blockbuster. You want a twist then I suggest going to watch a european made film.

The cinematography was excellent as was the production design. The landscape look amazing and I think Damon was terrific in carrying most of the film on his back, alone with nothing to look at but greenscreens.

So what is everyone's plans when Aguero is back? run with a strong 5 mids and likes of Vardy and Ighalo upfront? Or downgrade a mid to a cheapie and go with a Lukaku/Pelle Aguero Vardy up front?

"Luckily" I still have Hazard stinking up my midfield, so Hazard and Vardy (with his crap fixture run coming up which I don't want double Leicester for) for Aguero and fodder is my current plan.

      Already got Wanyama.

plan is Bony -> Aguero financed by either:

      KdB -> Lamela/Tadic/Barkley/Wijy/Willian/Cabaye/Ayew/Mirallas/Milner

SCOUT PICKS CHALLENGE - GW11 RESULTS

Just as a warning - I'm heading off to the Bahamas on Saturday for two weeks for a well deserved break - therefore GW12 results will NOT be posted until near the end of GW13! (Before you ask - I didn't plan it for an international break - that's just great luck!)

***** SCORES ON THE BOARD *****

    1st - Seb10 (70pts) [3pts]
    Top 4% - Pochecinno (67pts), Smooth, TL (66pts) [2pts]
    Top 10% - Reedy, Ameenkw, The Orienteer (65pts), Sully SOnc (64pts) [1pt]

with VS10, IanP1970, Tibbles and MB10 all being only a single point out of the scoring!

The FFS Scout Picks + Differentials scored a combined total of 68 points this gameweek, so only Seb10 wins a bonus point this gameweek folks.

    Things have become static at the top, but definitely a lot of movement down below! Our top 3 are;

    1st - Balders (13pts)
    2nd - Mr.Robot (10pts)
    3rd - Dusan Citizen (9pts)

Neither look good imo. How's the rest of the team, surely you have other areas to improve? I'd wait on more news/pressers about Souare before you give him the boot, if he's fit for this or next week I think he's a great option to have as a fourth/fifth defender. Great fixtures long term after this week & he's a very attacking FB. This is assuming you can get away with benching him this week though.

Second option is very impulsive imo, both Bony(avl) & Pellè have fantastic fixtures this GW, I don't there's much reason to get rid yet imo.

Perhaps your FT would be better saved & to reassess your team over the international break.

I'd love to hear from Jonty or Disable on this one:

      Who to bench:

      Wijnaldum - Mahrez - Payet - KDB - Sanchez
      Vardy - Pelle - Lukaku

Obvious choice is Wijnaldum, but I'm being reluctant as I've brought him in post-haul and was expecting more of him, and still am 🙂

Well its him or Payet I think.

Maybe base it on ownership when its this close a call.

Join the heard with Payet or go for broke with Wij.

Comes down to what kind of manager you are here.

My previous self would play Wijnaldum in a heartbeat. However, my previous self has never been as successful as I'd like. Benching Wijnaldum it is.

Cheers, and best of luck this week!

          Feeling good about:

          DDG
          Komp - VVD - Belle - (Evans) - (Richards)
          KDB - San(c)hez - Payet - Mahrez
Vardy - Pelle - Lukaku (vc)

It's a tough one. When in doubt, I favour the home player. And payet has been reasonably consistent whereas lukaku is someone who will go on a run like 2,2,16, 2,2, 17, 2,2,2 etc...considering he's just had a haul, hoping it'll be a week he gets 2 points!

No need for it in a dgw.

Bench boost when you load up on dgwers and don't want to bench your premium sgw players.

Triple captain for Aguero or Benteke on a dgw.

          1. ducksfly2gether
            • 10 Years

Why wouldn't you want an extra attacker in a dgw. Why no need? Seems like if there are 3 dgws, you would want to use 1 chip in each.

I would happily restructure my entire team for the bench boost, or take a hit to make sure I had my triple captain set, when the game weeks roll around, but a dgw attacker over a defender doesn't seem to be worth the wait.

It could make a little bit of sense, but really what you are banking on is your 8th best attacker having a DGW. The chances are somewhat slim, and the opportunity to have a bunch of attackers with great fixtures - like this week - probably outweighs holding onto it forever.

yes it could but Arsenal are going all in for the league and don't understand the criticism when West Ham decided to field a "B" team and was knocked out of Europe altogether , wasn't criticized at all

I get what you're saying. That said in the West Ham example, the Europa League is not quite the same thing. And Arsenal as a top club are expected to challenge on both fronts I guess.

It's extremely precarious for Arsenal because they need to win both their last two matches, hope Olympiakos loses their last two, and then it goes to GD. Or is H2H the next criteria?

Arsenal had players genuinely out. Different story

I think this is taken a little out of context. giving him the extra few days could be the difference between re-injuring and aggravating and letting it heal properly.

He was in a position where he could play

If he played then pulled up injured people would have been criticising. No win situation
