Leicester and Man City play out a goalless draw at the King Power in the penultimate match of the Gameweek. The Foxes have now drawn blanks in each of their last two, whilst for City, Sergio Aguero’s minutes continue to be managed by Manuel Pellegrini.

Foxes Hold Firm at the King Power

Leicester City delivered a positive response to their 1-0 defeat at Anfield, holding Manchester City to a goalless stalemate at the King Power Stadium. The Foxes have now recorded three clean sheets in their previous seven match-ups, conceding just five goals against Manchester United, Chelsea, Everton and Liverpool in the other four fixtures. Ally this with their schedule across the next four Gameweeks (BOU, tot, avl, STO) and their sub-4.5 defensive starters could make for profitable pick-ups.

Leicester’s second consecutive blank also marked the first time they’ve failed to net in 15 home encounters. The East Midlands outfit tallied the fifth-fewest attempts (37) and third-fewest shots inside the box (23) over the past four Gameweeks but that, in part, could be attributed to the fixture difficulty.

Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy mustered just seven attempts apiece during that period but will be relishing the prospect of facing two sides (Aston Villa and Bournemouth) that rank joint-second for goals conceded (34) this term. The latter’s owners will be relieved after he avoided another yellow card last night – Vardy remains on four bookings and has successfully navigated the Suspension Tightrope, with the limit extending to ten on New Year’s Day.

City’s Away Worries Continue

The Sky Blues’ stalemate at Leicester marked the fourth time in five road clashes that they’ve failed to register a goal. In fact, Manuel Pellegrini’s men haven’t won away from the Etihad since a victory over Crystal Palace in Gameweek 5. Certainly, nursing Sergio Aguero – who was afforded a 63-minute run-out this time around – back to full fitness and form will be key to rectifying that shortcoming as they gear up for a procession of favourable trips (wat, whu, sun, new) in the coming months. Having failed to play at home to Sunderland last weekend, Aguero looks likely to retain his starting berth for the upcoming trip to Watford.

After the match, Pellegrini insisted he will continue to limit Aguero’s pitch time until he’s back to full match sharpness:

“We know Kun needs three or four games to return his performance after an injury and I am sure we are going to see the best Kun in the second half of the season. I never talk about individual performances because we are a team. We know, because we know him and after all this year he needs two or three games to return to his normal performance. He needs these minutes. I don’t want him to play more than 65 or 67 minutes. It will be very useful to see the best Kun in the first round of the second half of the season.”

On a more positive note, Man City carded their first clean sheet in the absence of Vincent Kompany – who’s expected to be sidelined for three to four weeks following his injury setback. Head-to-heads against Crystal Palace (home) and West Ham United (away) harbour strong shut-out potential, but owners of Aleksandar Kolarov and Bacary Sagna will be wary of rotation, given that their respective counterparts are back in the mix.

Nah, it was only coz he played RWB rather than full back that he look so effective.

In a back 4 Walker is nailed on IMO

Looking, but undecided. Need a replacement after Kompany punt failed, so can afford him at least until Kun needs to get in my team (if ever). And not a lot of other enticing options.

Would you take Vardy out for a FT, if so for who? Or any other change? Have 1.5 itb.

    De Gea, Schmeichel
    Kolarov, Monreal, Dawson, Alderweireld, Francis
De Bruyne, Mahrez, Arnautovic, Ozil, Alli
    Vardy, Kane, Lukaku

    Thanks in advance 🙂

    Butland, Ruddy
    Toby, Moreno, Dawson, Bellerin, Oxford
    Mahrez, Coutinho, KDB, Ozil, Ramsey
    Ighalo, Kane, Lukaku

Also have 2 FT and 3.3 ITB

Well, I think my team looks decent for this week, which generally is a bad thing.

    Currently I am on,

    Butland,
    Bellerin, Dawson, Huth,
    Ozil, Walcott, de Bruyne, Mahrez,
    Lukaku (c), Kane, Vardy.

And a bench of (Ruddy, Alli, Nyom, Moreno).

Think I can save this week? And does the XI look all right?

Wouldn't captain Kaku with Mahrez and Ozil sitting in the dressing room waiting to see who the manager hands the armband too.

Other than that can't really fault it, I'd be tempted to play Moreno over Huth though

Been struggling with defence all season - Kompany in the latest of failures.
Current defense is Alderweireld - Bellerin - Kompany - Francis - Nyom. so need to find that reliable 3rd defender. Some candidates are:

    a) Williams - Swansea's tightened up of late, can they keep it up. Fixtures are OK
    b) Ivanovic - flair pick. OK fixtures, but can Chelsea be trusted
    c) Cresswell - hopefully back soon. Fixtures not the best though
    d) Wollscheid - two good fixtures, then turn for the much worse. Missed the Stoke boat?
    e) Ward - good recent run, but afraid I missed this train.
    f) other?

Anyone care to offer their opinion?

    Morning!!

Don't really know what to do for the next GW
    This is my team
    1.1ITB
    2FT

    Butland
    Bellerin, Dann, Toby
    Walcott, Ozil, Mahrez, KDB
    Vardy, Lukaku, Kane

    Myhill- Barkley, Bennett, Richards

    First I wanted to do
    Barkley -> Arnie
    Vardy -> Ighalo

But got no space to play Arnie this week and Vardy's fixture is a tasty one so I'm keeping him on

So with Bellerin might be rotated I think it's wise to get a better 4th defender
    thinking
    Richards -> Johnson / Dawson

There's always an element of doubt with him. It's possible that we could line up:

      Young - Smalling - Jones - Blind.

He will play most matches in the short term but not 100% nailed.

      Also Southampton have decent fixtures.

Payet isn't even back yet. I would also think about Giroud instead of kun

      I like the rest.

Who would you get as a 5th midfielder? I have a low-ish TV, don't think I'd be able to keep Alli for long as my 5th. Have Westwood who has now started the last 2, but not sure I'd want him with AoA and Bench Boost still in tact.

I did Westwood to Stanislas last week. No idea if that was a good move or not

Did this too (but then upgraded to Ramsey) Pugh is an issue with Stan possibly, Gosling/Surman seem nailed or possibly just keep Ww.

I like Stan and I was very close to doing that one myself, Stan's injury coupled with Pugh's return made me resist. Probably going to keep Westwood and assess the Bournemouth midfielders. King is an option too but the same rotation fears loom over his head. Goslign seems to be the safest, but lowest reward potential maybe.

King would be best if you can afford AK.

I think I'll give it a few weeks to decide. Bournemouth have Murray too and the transfer window opens now. King has done well, but the fans don't seem to rate him at all.

What do you think? Is he safe in your opinion?

Wait seems best, Bournemouth may go into the market for another striker for sure, at least you know where you stand with Ww, if you have to Gos/Surnan seem nailed but keep your finger on the pulse AK, happy hunting mate!

Is Rose now back in the Spurs defence permanently?
Pochettino brought in Trippier and Rose for the Watford game.
But Ben Davies has kept two clean sheets in two games.

I would imagine Rose is still number one choice. He missed one game through illness and one through rotation.

I expect Davies to play in the FA Cup.

I doubt, he is going to be rotated. Walker is safer than Rose, but the safest is Verthonghen. And Alder of course, but his price is ridiculous

Imo no, Davies has been more solid recently and Poch will play players based on form and he likes to rotate fullbacks when possible.

Best Silva replacement? I've gone through the list and there's no one really standing out. Walcott seems top pick but Sanchez nearing a return, and he couldn't finish anything the other day
