Chelsea’s return to form continues with a comprehensive away win over Palace, with Diego Costa, Oscar and Willian all grabbing a goal and assist. Elsewhere, Aaron Lennon and Dele Alli both find the net as honours finish even at Goodison.

Blues Back on Track

In the wake of back-to-back draws, Chelsea played out a commanding 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace, marking their first win on the road since August. The Blues are now unbeaten in four matches since Jose Mourinho departed and Gus Hiddink took the reins, forcing us to reassess their Fantasy potential ahead of a four home fixtures (WBA, EVE, MUN, NEW) in the next six.

Having bagged a brace in his last start against West Bromwich Albion, Diego Costa returned from suspension to display further signs of improvement with a goal and an assist at Selhurst Park. The Spain international harbours the potential to be a profitable differential, yet his pockmarked injury and disciplinary record could serve as deterrents for prospective investors.

Eden Hazard was subbed off at the 16-minute mark with a groin injury, but Willian and Oscar compensated for the Belgian’s absence with aplomb, notching a goal and assist apiece. The former has now produced one goal and three assists in his previous four starts, while the latter boasts two goals and one assist in four outings, furnishing us with two viable, mid-priced routes into Chelsea’s resurgent midfield.

Cesar Azpilicueta’s 11% ownership benefited from Chelsea’s second successive clean sheet and the Spaniard’s fourth bonus point in two starts. Azpilicueta (5.7) represents their cheapest secure starter, but upcoming match-ups against Everton and Arsenal limit the Londoners’ shutout appeal in the short term.

Palace Stutter at Home Again

Palace drew their third consecutive blank as they failed to win for the fifth home tie in seven. The Eagles suffered in the absence of the suspended Yohan Cabaye, mustering the joint-fewest key passes (six) of any team across the Gameweek. They’re likely to have more joy on that front next time out, though, as they travel to face an Aston Villa outfit that’s claimed just two clean sheets this campaign.

Worryingly for Alan Pardew, his squad has been unable to cope with injuries to Yannick Bolasie and Connor Wickham: since the attacking duo succumbed to injury, Palace rank second-bottom for attempts (25), joint-bottom for big chances (two) and bottom for shots on target (five). That revelation will be music to the ears of Fantasy mangers who have recruited from Manchester City’s back line, given that the Eagles make the trip to the Etihad after Villa.

Lennon Strike Not Enough for Toffees

Aaron Lennon came back to haunt his previous employers with a stunning effort as Everton held Tottenham Hotspur to a 1-1 stalemate at Goodison Park. The former Spurs stalwart was preferred to Gerard Deulofeu on the right flank, with Roberto Martinez later explaining that he’s making an effort to rotate his squad. Although Deulofeu is likely still ahead of Lennon in the pecking order, the fact that the Toffees embark on four fixtures over the next fortnight ensures he’s a rotation risk in the league.

Romelu Lukaku failed to score for just the second time in 10 outings but kept his points ticking over with an assist. The ex-Chelsea man currently charts top among forwards for total score (135) but has his work cut out across the next two Gameweeks as Everton gear up for road clashes against Man City and Chelsea. It’s worth noting, however, that those two sides have tallied just five home clean sheets between them throughout the season.

Alli Nets Again for Spurs

Spurs extended their unbeaten streak to four matches courtesy of Dele Alli’s silky finish just before the break. Valued at 5.3, the 19-year-old all-action midfielder has chalked up three goals and two assists in six starts, rendering him a prime pick-up in the budget bracket. In light of Tottenham’s excellent schedule (LEI, SUN, cry, nor, WAT) and Alli’s recent productivity, he could act as a fourth midfielder for those managers attempting to raise funds for the capture of Sergio Aguero.

Harry Kane was marshaled well by the hosts’ rearguard and failed to score for the fifth Gameweek in seven. That being said, few owners will be contemplating his sale prior to successive home encounters, given that the Lilywhites place third for home goals (18) this term.

Toby Alderweireld again provided the searching long ball for Alli’s volleyed winner, a repeat of the combination which brought Tottenham’s goal in Gameweek 15. The assist helped Alderweireld to the maximum bonus, handing the Belgian an eight-point return despite failing to earn a clean sheet.

While Spurs have kept just four clean sheets in their last 12 league outings, they’ve conceded more than one goal in just one of those 12 matches – at home to Newcastle in Gameweek 15. Alderweireld’s short-term potential looks strong, then, given that Leicester have failed to score in their last three outings and could be without Jamie Vardy following yesterday’s news on his forthcoming surgery.

GWK 20 rough with the smooth

Looking for your tales of woe and joy in what was one of the lowest scoring Gameweeks for some time. Expecting a fair few roughs but would also be great to here from some smooth Defoe, Oscar or Boruc owners.

That's an exceptional score considering how poorly the key players scored.

Another captain fail for me (Ozil) but Ivanovic continues to keep my head above water. Chelsea looking good for investment.

Roughest of the rough – probably my worst game-week ever: a pathetic score of 22 points and a GW rank 3,561,810 out of 3,635,734……Lukaku was my only player to score more than 2 points (apart from Alderweireld on my bench)…..My OR dropped from 176k to 273k…..170th and last place in my own January to May League…..Also last place (856th) in Last Man Standing and therefore presumably eliminated.

The only consolation is that I’ve got this one out of the way before FFS Cup qualifying in GW22!

      ROUGH:

In the last half hour before deadline did the following:

      - Bought Wally for Newcastle. Therefore Alli goes to the bench.
      - Switched Williams from last on bench to the XI for Cresswell fearing a Cresswell cameo.
      - Likewise switched VvD and R.Bennett thinking I am mad to be considering a Norwich defender for a Southampton one.

      Smooth:
      Aguero scores with maximum bonus
Evans scores to get a 10 point haul even after conceding.

Very rough! Captain Mahrez missed a penalty for a (1x2). Benched R Bennett and Alli who had 8 points each. King whom I played instead of Alli played just 50 minutes and missed a sitter. Ramsey and Ozil were disappointing as well. So a pretty rough 36 points.

But to be fair I was gonna captain Mahrez anyway. Benching Alli seemed pretty sensible given he was a possibility of dropping into a deeper midfield role and King is playing as a forward. Gutted mostly about not playing Bennett instead of Moreno which I almost did.

Oddly enough in terms of rank jumping, this was probably my best GW in a while.

Finished with 52 points thanks to Aguero, Yaya Toure, and Evans (and on a smaller scale, Lukaku, Bellerin and Walcott(C))

Funny thing is that I'd have to owe my GW to me missing the deadline.

      I did 2 things:

ROUGH: Swapped captaincy from last week(Aguero) to Walcott at 11.44
SMOOTH: In the final minute, I attempted to make 2 transfers.
      Yaya Toure(9)---->Arnautovic(1)
      Jones(1) ------> Darmian (1)
Thankfully, I didn't confirm them in time and I got locked out. 😆
Leaving me with 2 FTs once again this week, I may have lost a FT but I think it was for the better.

The general feeling is he's far too good for Bournemouth (no disrespect Bournemouth fans). From what I know, and the little I have seen, he was touted as a huge prospect who has stalled slightly, but still a massive coup.

Need to catch up in my ML so need some differentials
Plan is Kane/Costa to Lukaku and upgrade 1 defender GW 23.

    Schmeichel - Hennessey
    Alderweireld - Williams - Wollscheid - Ake - Smith
    Ozil - Yaya - Payet - Mahrez - Alli
    Aguero - Costa - Kane

Not a west ham fan but delighted to see on Twitter theres such a buzz about Mark Nobles testimonial which I believe will be the last game played at Upton park. Love that ground and got a lot of time for Noble too, overlooked on this forum as he's not an FPL asset but a fantastic little player and says a lot that through all the managers WH have had in 10 years, he's always been a starter. Remember him breaking into the team there and being in tears when they lost a game 4-3 to Spurs when they looked dead certs to go down in the season Tevez kept them up. Heart warming stuff, well done Mark!

Such a frustrating season. 3 greens followed by 1 red and back in the same position again. Since GW12 I've just moved up and down a bunch of times and ended back around the 260k mark.

Anyone else in the same boat?

I was languishing around the 1m mark until about a month ago and have had to claw my way up. Sitting just under 200k now after a v.small green this week, so tough this year as there seems to be way more active teams At this stage than ever before

Yep, it's all very 1 step forward, 2 steps back recently. Went to 11k, then dropped to 20k, then back to 14k, then right down to 52k. Got back to 25k, then fell to 35k this week. I'm maintaining a decent position, but finding it very hard to crack the top 10-15k.

I'm sure he will, question is will Payet do just as well... or at least well enough to warrant the extra cash being spent on Costa.

Having Aguero and Costa up front is seriously tempting. Would be getting six home games in the next 2 GWS for my forward line of Aguero-Costa-Kane 🙂

Yep, I clocked that as well. Also Kane's performance was down (despite hitting the post). Seems the Dembele rule still applies to Kane.

I got Alli in last night btw after seeing MOTD - last time I did that straight after MOTD I got Vardy in and he couldn't stop scoring.

I'm looking at using my 2fts for a mini new year wildcard.

Already done Ramsey to Alli. Vardy and Dann to sub 5m defender and Aguero(c) looking very likely. RMT is telling me that 4pt hit will be more than paid back over the next few gwks and even in GWK 21. If Aguero gets injured Vardy to Costa for me - no hit. Having Alli as a fourth mid gives so much flexibility.

        This.

It was almost as if Alli was the striker and Kane was supposed to play behind Alli all game.

One more thing I noted last night, Alli has 4 goals and 3 assists in away games and a goal and 2 assists in home games.

His fixtures correspond well with KdB, so if Alli's your 5th mid, you might hit gold with benching kdB for away games for Alli and playing KdB over Alli for home games.

PS. I don't like to rotate attackers at all.

Thinking of Vardy -> Deeney for a few games. Deeney only 4.2% ownership. Shares the goals with Ighalo.
I can't see Vardy being rushed back after an operation. He won't play for a few weeks, and his price will inevitably drop.

Assuming this is excluding the screamer against Man City? Other than that, I see your point!

Any reason why Deeney over Ighalo?

    Playing catch up? or leading?

After Beavis' post above, it's really got me thinking about the number of active teams playing the game at this stage of the season. The number of overall teams has increased every year since I started in 2011 however usually by this point, there are loads of "dead teams" in my mini leagues. For example, in my work league we usually have 2 or 3 who pay their cash and never change their teams. This year, we have over 20 people who are all still playing.

A prime example of how active this years game is involves Payet. At the start of the season I recall his ownership was less than 5%. Once he got going this moved up well into the 40s. Checked last night and it's down at 5% again. This really demonstrates how people are managing their teams this year rathe than casting them aside early on.

Another thing I have noticed is the coverage of FPL on sites like the bbc sport. I really think this is one of the key factors behind why a lot of the die hards on here (I'm primarily a ffs lurker who doesn't get involved in stats tables ranked 195k so make of that what you will!) are struggling, it's almost as if we are waiting for the tide to turn against the "casual" player where as in actual fact with the scout articles on the FPL website and other info Available to thrm, they are better informed than ever, hence nobody is making any real ground on them.

Just a few observations in light of the recent podcast discussion

I have enough cash and 2FT to do either:

    A) Costa + Payet
    B) Aguero + Arnautovic
    C) Aguero + Payet (would need to take a -4 hit)

    Which to go for?

So C, is for 3 transfers, who is the 3rd?

If it helps I'm looking to do the same to get Kun in

Doubt it - more and more teams each year.

Twitter activity seems to be increasing too, so many new accounts dedicated to it. It's not really surprising I suppose - biggest sport and league in the world.

Quite exciting to see how it could grow next.

I think the reason its so popular is that the casuals had a fantastic start and are sticking it out. After 10 Gws they usually look at their MLs and give up. This in conjunction with veterans struggling means there are more live team than before imo
