I wasted my BB a few weeks ago--not proud of it and I regret it. But right now it seems kind of freeing. There's no point in my getting 15 DGWers for any GW, so I can plan with greater flexibility. It almost feels like an advantage right now, because I can transfer in whom I like for the next couple of weeks, then WC and set myself up with benchers who will play in GW35.

Anyone else feeling this? I'm not saying it's an advantage, but it could work out better than it seems when you just think of the fact that I don't have a BB. I wish I did, but it can have its upside. Am I just rationalising, or is there something to this?

That would be 1x Goalie and 4-2-2 playing in 35. So use 2ft to bring in 2 mids to make it up to 4-4-2

Those who captained Aguero and those who didn't, what was your thinking?
For me it was the way they set up against Leicester and unluckily lost, coupled with Kane against the woeful Villa.
I've been trying to challenge people on the word "safe" with regards to captain choice. My 20 year ML rival continues to captain the "safe" Aguero as I swiftly gain on him.

Kane barely played midweek Kun played the whole match which must have been demoralizing. PLus as you say Villa are very poor.

Of course we are all treating selecting anyone other than Aguero as a success right now. Maybe we should wait until after our captains have played before considering a good decision?

I anticipated the two Fernands getting a start. Looked back at the matches that they had played together and was not impressed for the most part. Yaya injury really derailed any thoughts of Kun cap. I've got mine on Kane.

I never considered Aguero this GW. Not being smug, as my (c) has not played and could easily blank, but what I had seen of Norwich and of City away, I just thought it would be a grim affair. Villa seemed to be much more inviting hosts, and Spurs had done better away. IT wasn't cmplicated, but I was definitely curled up behind the couch througout the Nor--City match.

What you say about Spurs being better away was one of the other things that did it for me.
I actually never even considered Kun, my only consideration this week was to play VVD or Francis.

Never gave Kun a second thought was on Vardy until the Benitez news and Kane's rest on Thursday night.. switched to Kane.. A lot is made of Aguero and he's a fine player but he's no messiah and since Kane broke onto the scene last season im sure he's matched him near enough goal for goal.. seeing Aguero top of the poll only swayed me more towards Vardy then on to Kane as i knew it was a great chance to make ground on those who captain top of the poll every week

Yes. Although the captain poll is just us guys is foes have a useful bareing on others. I was with Mahrez until Benitez took over. That had a massive influence for me.

UFPLers, is there not a little nagging worry that they might scrap this game - less than 24,000 have signed up this year.

no, but its growing year on year, last year there were only 8000 teams iirc, so this year's volume trebled.

That is the important thing. Plus I am assuming there are advertising revenues on top of the entry fee so it will make some money there.

Plus there maybe extra capacity from people who work on FPL already so maybe it doesn't cost that much extra to run? A lot of the data would be being collected already after all. The rest of it is just different sums at the end of the day.

                • 12 Years
                10 years, 4 months ago

yep and the data is also already explicitly owned and used by the fpl team (in fact I think its the same team working on both games).

So just playing around to see what kind of team I could get with a GW36 WC and BB in 37. Currently have TV 111.9 SV 107.1

    This assumes...

    - City/Newcastle set for 34
    - Arsenal win tomorrow
    - EVE/LIV gets scheduled for here. Ignore Everton's GW35 fixture with Palace for now

This leaves me players from ARS, SUN, EVE, LIV, MUN, WHU

    DDG, Mingolet
    Bellerin, Smalling, Baines, Cresswell, PVA
    Sanchez, Ozil, Firmino, Payet, Antonio
    Struridge, Lukaku, Defoe
    1.6M ITB

Roation risks I'm sure, but looks good on paper to me.

I've been against BB in GW 37 but I suppose the advantage is that you only have to live with it for 1 week before and 1 after, so you can really.go to town on just those fixtures.

Correct. Plus the last week of the season is pretty much a lottery anyways, so not too worried about having an unbalanced team for one week. Plus can save 2 FT for 38 to take a few punts.

It's an obvious statement, but it's about the players. Sig and Arno were pretty obvious picks today, and would have helped alot of the FFS players out. I personally did not agree with the mass captaining of Aguero in view of City's away form, although that's an understandable one (and only an issue if Kane or/and Mahrez do well). But I assume alot of well prepared FFS players will have got points from Sig, Arno, perhaps from Bournemouth and maybe a City defender too. I expect many will have 5/6 players to come from Leicester/Spurs too.

My regret is not doing Wolly to Kompany thinking ahead too much to the doubles to not pump too much money in defense in case I wanted to get to 34 without using wildcard. Too much over thinking and missed out on quick points. Had a FT and the cash to do it.

We all put a lot of thought into whom we pick, and it's never really obvious until it happens. I had Arnie, but not Siggy. I thought about the latter, but got Silva instead because of DGW potential. Seems an obvious mistake now, but it wasn't then. It's not helpful to come on after a GW and talk about what was obvious.

I said 'pretty obvious' to make a representative comment. It was in response to a complaint about bad luck and about others making ml gains despite apparent under-preparation. My implication was that the community, or rather the thinking player instead of the casual, would have generally done well today. Sometimes things go wrong, and sometimes right, but those under-preparing will get caught eventually.

I think the point of my post is clear. I'm not celebrating any personal decisions, and I think you are nit-picking unnecessarily.

Nope, not nit-picking, and I understood the point of your post. I am saying that you were being (probably unintentionally) rude to other FFSers. I was not questioning your point, but your manners. You might choose to continue talking about what was "pretty obvious" but your message will be better received if you don't.

I am being rude? But you are insulting my manners and enforcing your subjectivity? And 'my message will be better received'? Do you speak for all members of this community now?

What's amazing is that, although I rarely post, I've witnessed repeated examples of trolling and celebratory messages on this board. I make one post about 'pretty obvious' picks based on comments on here, statistics and fixtures and I get accused of bad manners and rudeness.

              Brilliant.

Gentlemen. Let's all be friends. TM370 is right. There are a lot of douches on here so no need to argue when not needed. Welcome TM, please carry on posting. Some things we just have to agree to disagree on 🙂

No chance whatsoever. Maybe next month if I am super lucky. Now it's just about learning for next season and making sure I catch my ml leader in my main account. Next season I plan on having 6 accounts from the start and really pushing for that first months 1k prize.

Aaand you are the reason telegraph monthly prizes are impossible! Seriously sometimes the top 30 is filled with just 10 managers.

Yeah,I'll have a good crack at it next year plus I'll probably look to add a team or two Oct/Nov.
Like a few others I thoroughly enjoy the format of UFPL.

I stand by what I said, but it is true that you are not close to being as rude as many on here. I started my comment in a nice way, and never stopped talking in a nice way. If you don't want to hear what I'm saying, fine. But I think it was fair comment.

Accusing me of being rude and questioning my manners is not commenting in a 'nice way'. It also ironically repeats exactly what you are accusing me of. I think that you might want to apply the standards you apply to others to yourself.

Thanks for the nice comments of others - I appreciate it and should ignore Eunuch. But I find his comments unnecessary and irritating. This is the first time I've posted regularly on here, and I've posted several (hopefully) helpful comments and do not appreciate being accused of rudeness and a lack of manners.

I'm completely stumped where to go this week and would really appreciate the help.

Planning to WC and BB for 34. 2FT and 5.2 ITB.

    Help:

    Butland Hennesey

    Daniels Kompany Wollscheid Dawson Huth

    Firmino Payet Mahrez Alli Sigurdsson

    Kane Vardy Aguero

    Thanks!

Wait for fixture announcements. If City get the dgw34 your in a pretty good position to get a strong XI of doublers in 34 and save WC for 36. Wolly > Ivanovic looks good either whatever you do I'd say. That would give you a Goalie, 3 defenders, 2 mids and 1 forward for the doubles. So the other 4 ft between Gw31-gw34 you could make it up to 11 doublers

The team looks good imo. If you have 2 FTs I'd sort out the goalie issue. Swap Hennesey for Fab and then play Fab against Villa (and then Butland the week after). I'd probably swap Wollschield for a better defender too, depending on how the others rotate. Alderwereild would be perfect for Bournemouth but is a little short term. Ivanovic maybe? Although I'm not confident in Chelski's defence atm.

It isn't, necessarily. He will certainly miss GW31, but he could be back for 32.

I had the same plan, and if he gets off I will still do it, because I plan to WC GW33.

Why? Two yellows to a red is usually only a one match ban I think. There would need to be other charges (which might happen) which is why I said "if he gets off".

I'm no rules wizard, and happy to be corrected. But I think there is some doubt that he will be out for GW32.

I might be foggy about the rules, but doesnt a subsequent red card ban result in an additional game missed? He was banned retrospectively once this season, so will he not also miss another game? The FPL website has him missing two I believe.

This is is second red this season, so 2 game ban i believe
