Harry Kane scores twice, courtesy of two Deli Alli assists, as Spurs move to two points off the summit. Odion Ighalo is amongst the goals as Watford send Arsenal out of the FA Cup, whilst Dimitri Payet and Anthony Martial both find the net in West Ham’s cup draw at United.

Kane at the Double

Tottenham Hotspur recorded a comfortable 2-0 victory over Aston Villa to send them within two points of the summit.

Much to the chagrin of those Fantasy managers who chose to captain Sergio Aguero, Harry Kane put the Villains to the sword with his second brace in seven outings. The Spurs marksman now ranks joint-top in the Premier League scoring charts (19 goals), underlining his clinical nature ahead of a home tie against Bournemouth.

Having teed up Kane for both goals, Dele Alli reaffirmed his status as the choice route into Spurs’ midfield. The former MK Dons starlet has contributed to 18 strikes (seven goals, 11 assists) this term, ensuring that he charts second for total score (132) – behind Marko Arnautovic (137) – among midfielders priced 6.5 or below.

Toby Alderweireld’s 44% ownership profited from Spurs’ first clean sheet in five outings and a solitary bonus point. The Belgian centre-back has amassed 12 points more than any of his counterparts this term, rendering him the most popular defender on the Fantasy market by a huge margin. That being said, the Lilywhites will do well to stifle the buoyant attacks of Bournemouth and Liverpool across the next two Gameweeks.

Villa Slip to Another Defeat

Aston Villa’s continued ineptitude reinforces the tactic of recruiting players that are matched up against Remi Garde’s men.

On that note, Gylfi Sigurdsson represents an intriguing differential captain for Swansea City’s home clash against the West Midlanders next weekend. The Icelandic international has picked up points in eight of the last 11 Gameweeks and is seeking a third double-figure home haul in four as the basement-dwellers maker their way to the Liberty this weekend.

Hornets Shock the Emirates

Watford pulled off a 2-1 win over Arsenal at the Emirates to seal a spot in the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

Odion Ighalo and Adlene Guedioura netted the goals, while Troy Deeney grabbed a brace of assists. Given that Ighalo (one goal and assist in 10) and Deeney (two goals in 11) are currently enduring lengthy barren spells in the league, Quique Sanchez Flores will hope that their impactful performances at the Emirates spark an upturn in form. Indeed, the Hornets posted five blanks in their previous six match-ups, negating all interest in their strike duo, with Ighalo owners sweating on his fitness after he was forced off late on.

As a result of Watford’s triumph over the North Londoners, their trip to Norwich City in Gameweek 35 will be postponed. Consequently, the Hertfordshire club will take part in two double Gameweeks this season, encouraging us to keep tabs on the above-mentioned forwards during a challenging trio of upcoming fixtures (STO, ars, EVE).

Welbeck strike not enough

Having crashed out of the FA Cup, Arsenal now lay claim to just one win in their last seven outings across all competitions.

Gabriel and Per Mertesacker were given the all-clear for this head-to-head, but Nacho Monreal and Hector Bellerin were dropped to the bench. Laurent Koscielny remains consigned to the treatment room, raising doubts over the Gunners’ capacity to secure a clean sheet when they make the trip to Everton next Gameweek.

On the offensive end, Danny Welbeck – who entered the fray at the 68-minute mark – set the groundwork for an unlikely comeback with a goal two minutes from time. Mesut Ozil provided the assist with a masterful backheel, encouraging his 45% ownership to ride out Arsenal’s poor form and invest faith in the midfield architect. Given that he’s also bagged two goals and an assist in four league outing since returning from injury, Welbeck is staking a claim for regular minutes once his fitness is fully up to scratch.

Martial the United saviour

Anthony Martial scored his first goal in six matches to cancel out West Ham’s opener and book a replay on the Irons’ home turf.

Considering that Manchester United face two double Gameweeks, Martial’s form (two goals and assists in five league starts) is a point of interest for Fantasy managers. That being said, their blank in Gameweek 35 and unforgiving run (mci, EVE, tot) through to Gameweek 34 (an expected date for one of their doubles) tempers our current enthusiasm in the Red Devils’ assets.

Payet nets again

Dimitri Payet netted his third free-kick of the season to grant the visitors a second-half lead at Old Trafford. The Frenchman has been in fine form of late, chalking up three goals and a trio of assists in four starts, making him a prime pick in the mid-priced bracket. Further augmenting his case for investment, Payet’s last eight goals across all competitions arrived in road matches and a trip to Chelsea – who rank joint-fourth for home goals conceded (22) – is next on West Ham’s agenda.

Winston Reid made a welcome return to the Hammers’ rearguard but limped off just after the hour mark, placing question marks over his fitness for the weekend trip to Stamford Bridge. With regards to West Ham’s clean sheet prospects, they’ve shut out the opposition in their past trio of home encounters, which bodes well for Crystal Palace’s visit in Gameweek 32.

In terms of replay dates for this one, any dates won’t be confirmed until after the outcome of United’s second-leg Europa League clash with Liverpool on Thursday.

Scout Pick Community Champion Lottery – Gameweek 31

Once again we are on the look out for a champion to represent the community to take on the Scout Picks and win the chance of a prize.

If you want to take part please email your FFS name and FPL ID number to community@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk .

The champion will then be selected at random shortly after the deadline of 2pm tomorrow (Tuesday) and then be asked to submit their XI by Friday 2pm by emailing me at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

We only need 11 picks and please be mindful of the 84m budget. There’s no captain in the picks either and please stick to a designated FPL formation, including no more than three players from one team. No captain or chips will be applied.

At the end of the season the champion who beats the picks by the highest margin will win a £100 Amazon voucher.

In addition, from this week FantasyBet (https://www.fantasybet.com/) are offering Community Champions the chance to win free entry into their £500 Guaranteed ‘Big Weekly’ game worth £22 by taking on our Scout Picks in a specially set up game.

The eligible Community Champion who beats the Scout Picks by the highest margin every month will win a free entry into the £600 guaranteed ‘Boss’ game worth £55. This is an extra offer that is available to any community champion who is 18 or over and not based in the US.

Champions will not be able to be selected as a champion for a second time. The champion will be revealed in a new midweek Scout Picks article on Tuesday, which will outline our initial thinking around the picks. Our and the champions picks will be revealed as usual the day before the first match of the Gameweek.

Should the community “Champion” fail to provide an initial or final Scout Pick selection, then an “Assistant Manager” chosen by us, will gain control of the selection to represent the community for the Gameweek in question.

one kinda interesting story this week so far for bad/good gw topic.

I've had 10 players including Ryan Bennet prior to this gw. Was thinking about his potential 0-1 point. Made two transfers for a hit, barkley, payet -> yaya, eriksen and put bennet on the bench,

Afterwards that heel news made me think about adding max gradel for a new hit (better than stay disappointed without player and with bennet in the first squad). Was so sure about gradel's qualities, I've been scoring over 2 per match with Gradel last year playing with Saint Etienne in FIFA's online matches. Nobody could stop him. Absolutely tremendous.

Later on I've decided to put Ayew instead, because of Villa, time for waking up and first game against Bornemouth.

That's how I finished with -8 and with no player to fight for those hits along with my pick scoring 11 points.

At the end Bennet proved me wrong and gave me those important 5 points despite my distrust.
Now wondering whether I'm only who got his points this gw. : )

      cheers

I think the always captain someone playing Villa rule may apply to GWK 31 - especially is its OUR man Gylfi - riding high in many FFS teams - nowhere to be seen in the overall rankings.

Aguero seems compromised as a player in a 4-4-2 - last season alongside Dzeko and now Bony. Pellegrini persists with this formation even though their results seem to be worse.

Think I'm just gonna go in with Aguero only, from City (come the DGWs).

If it's in 34, City face Chelsea. If it's in 37, City face Arsenal.

Newcastle at home will be trying to grind out a result. Can't see a CS anywhere tbh. Kdb could be an option but just the Argentine for me. Way too many other excellent options. Of course we need more news though.

Went all out for the short term last week with WC on the horizon, had two transfers and went balls deep on Spurs attack versus Villa which didn’t come off. I was undecided on Toby and Siggy in or Daniels and stat heavy Eriksen. Punted on the latter which didn’t bear fruit. Wouldn’t have been so bad if Gestede could shoot from three yards! Now don’t really want to sell Eriksen before Bournemouth at home, but hard to ignore Siggy versus Villa – he may even be given the armband. Normally, captaining a Swansea player has caution written all over it (with a hint of an alarm bell even!) but then I watch Villa highlights and it all changes..

So chaps - Save or use my FT? 2.1m ITB

    Butland
    Simpson, Williams, Kompany
    Siggy, Eriksen, Mahrez, Silva
    Kane, Aguero, Vardy

    (Hennessey), Fonte, Azpi, Stanislas

Eriksen is annoying me but can't get him out against Bour other then that not sure guess Stanislas but is a waste of transfer?

It's got to be Alli or Ozil I think, and I'm now swaying towards benching Alli. After seeing Payet, on my bench, running riot at Goodison, benching Ozil feels far too risky.

I think Alli based on him not being very explosive at home compared to away. I think Eriksen could do better in this one.

I have the exact same dilemma btw.

Eriksen is soooo due...or not depending whether your glass is half full or empty. I'm certainly giving him BOU.

That was advice to GW btw.

But also applies to Doolittle. I'd give Wijnaldum SUN - unless Rafa says during the week that he hates him or something.

I do think though that Alli's home returns are poor compared to away.

              Alli last six home games

5, 2, 4, 2, 2, 6. I can live with even his best tally of 6 there on the bench.

But actually so too are Eriksen's

2, , 2, 3, 15, 3, 3...although that 15 shines brightly there as a solid gold piece of differential points. Eriksen also has a 10 at home as well versus West Ham.

I think its good to do something a little different with a midfielder. He has been explosive and could have come good for you.

My fails this season have included Hazard and Bony - but I'm pleased I went for them - good to try something different. If it doesn't work out move on.

I'd give him SUN though in the new Rafa era.

    Benching headache for next week:

Mahrez (cry), Firmino (sot), Payet (che), Silva(MUN), Siggy (AVL)
Aguero (MUN), Vardy (cry), Kane (BOU)
