The ICC World T20 moves into its third phase from Tuesday (21st March). This takes a look at the fixtures and offers those playing the game a new article for cricket discussions.

Fixtures

22nd March, Tuesday  –  New Zealand Vs Pakistan, Mohali

23rd March, Wednesday –  England Vs Afghanistan, Delhi & India Vs Bangladesh, Bengaluru

25th March, Friday – Pakistan Vs Australia, Mohali & South Africa Vs West Indies, Nagpur

26th March, Saturday – Bangladesh Vs New Zealand, Kolkatta &  Sri Lanka Vs England, Delhi

27th March, Sunday – Afghanistan Vs West Indies, Nagpur & India Vs Australia, Mohali

28th March, Monday- South Africa Vs Sri Lanka, Delhi

Discussion Points

  • From this we can see that New Zealand, Pakistan, Bangladesh play early on and their fixtures end early. So it would be good to load their players and save on some transfers.
  • Feroz shah kotla (New Delhi), Eden Gardens  (Kolkata), Chinna swamy (Bangalore) are slow pitches. But Mohali,Chandigarh is a little bit fast, skiddy, bouncy and grassy.

              Malik interests me as he is batting Top 4 and is listed as a spin bowling option.

              Amir, Irfan and Wahab (think he's doubtful today) are seamers, with Malik, Afridi and Imad listed as BAT/SPIN.

                  Bummer... they must change around a lot then, depending on tactics/game situation I guess.

                  If he's listed Top 4 in the batting order today, I'm still going to take a chance on him.

                    meant to come in at 7, but came in at 3 and 4.

                    It is all very fluid. The likes of Malik, Umar, Sarfraz, Hafeez, Afridi can all come in in the top 4 dependent on the situation

                      Yeah that's what I expected to be the case when you said Malik batted at 5 and 6.

                      I'm set on Afridi anyway, cos he's one of the main bowlers and his nickname tells everyone what he can do with the bat!

                      Definitely going with Amir and Afridi... the rest I'll wait and see. Cheers for the info

      I guess because he got a 50 against Bang. He's a decent player but I don't fancy him getting many against the NZ seamers

      I'm not, and I'm in full agreement regarding batsmen vs bowlers.

      I want to incorporate some Pak batting, so I'm going Afridi and possibly Malik also, with Amir as the main bowler.

      What are your thoughts on Irfan? Never even heard him mentioned

        I prefer Malik as well just because he'd get a few overs. I'm also definitely getting Imad Wasim if he's listed in the squad. Afridi is a bit expensive to me but it may be risky to go without given his explosiveness.
        I don't know enough about Irfan so I'm staying away but I won't be surprised if he takes a couple wickets

          I base my squad selections from the initial bookmakers prices on Top Tournament Batsmen and Top Tournament Bowlers markets... I won't select anyone not listed in my main shortlist from those.

          Afridi and Irfan were both 20/1 shots to be Top Bowlers (Amir 14/1) so it's a surprise Irfan never gets a mention... is it only because he's not done much as of yet?

          Malik (33/1) was the 2nd fav to score the most runs for Pakistan behind Hafeez (25/1), so with Hafeez likely out, it could be Malik who steps up in the next game or two.

          I'm tempted to go with Afridi, Amir, Malik and Irfan - in the hope they bowl NZ out - but it also seems like a little overkill (despite them having 2 fixtures pretty close)

            Imad Wasim didn't make the shortlist, so mustn't have been considered a possible Top Tournament Bowler with the bookmakers.

            I've got listed: Amir (14/1), Afridi and Irfan (20/1), Riaz (25/1), Sami (40/1) and Ali (66/1)

            It's not foolproof of course... Shehzad wasn't listed as a Top Tournament Batsmen candidate for Pakistan but got a 50 - so don't let me sway you from Imad, it just means I won't be getting him.

            Good criteria for selection. Thanks for the odds as well. I'm currently on Afridi, Amir, Malik and I. Wasim (provided he plays). I think it is very all rounded and besides Afridi, I think it isn't too much strain on the budget. I may drop down to 3 Pak players if Wasim isn't playing

        Irfan never will get to bat unless Pak are 9 down and he is awful as a fielder..basically not T20 material

      Looks almost identical to mine. Still not sold on Moeen & Shahzad vs Buttler & R. Khan though. I also think I'm going with an extra Pak player over Kohli though and will use a transfer to bring him in before his game

    Reports suggest that hafeez will make way for Khalid Latif and Imad wasim will replace Wahab Riaz.Both these players miss out due to injuries.
    I am going with Shahzad,U.Akmal,Afridi,Amir(c),Irfan,Corey and Santner from this game.Good luck all 🙂

      If England bat first it's the quartet I'd want (3 Top order and best wicket taking bowler)... but I wouldn't get all 4 at this stage, in case they bowl first, take a few early wickets and bowl Afghanistan out cheaply.

      It's one too many for me.

      Root, Rashid, and Buttler as an explosive differential. Planned transfer -> Kohli so not worried about cash spend as he's the placeholder

    I've gone hard on this first game with NZ winning the toss and batting first..

    Guptil, Williamson, Munro, Anderson (Top 4 batting) with Sodhi and McClenghan

    Amir(C) and Afridi for Pakistan

    I think it's called 'hedging your bets' but I really don't fancy Pakistan's top order batting - their bowling is where it's at and NZ are a powerul unit.

    Roy, Nabi and Shahzad in place for tomorrow... plan is to get Hales, Root and Rashid IF England bat first or save transfers and replace some NZ players for the India vs Bangladesh game.

        I've only selected good options so should score well... but whether I've got the tactics/balance right, time will tell.

      I kept Roy, Charles and Munro all through Phase 2... 70k for good, top order batsmen from good sides is too much of a bargain to ignore
