Romelu Lukaku disappoints yet again as Everton and Palace play out a goalless draw at Selhurst Park. The Eagles serves up a second successive shut-out in the first of their two double Gameweeks. Elsewhere, United’s Marcus Rashford strengthens his prospects of retaining a starting berth by netting the opener in a 2-1 cup win at West Ham.

Lukaku blanks again

Everton extended their winless streak to five matches with a goalless stalemate at Selhurst Park as Gameweek 33 came to a bitterly disappointing conclusion.

Runaway leader in last week’s Captain Poll, with in excess of 70% of the votes, Romelu Lukaku failed to justify our collective show of faith and posted his fourth successive blank. Despite having clashes against Southampton and Liverpool up next, his 44% ownership won’t have too much optimism ahead of another double Gameweek for the Merseysiders.

Joel Robles proved to be the chief beneficiary of Everton’s first clean sheet in seven outings, picking up two save points and three bonus for an 11-point haul. Pitched at 4.3, the Spanish shot-stopper furnishes us with a budget path into a defence that lacks the consistency to warrant serious investment.

Post-match, Roberto Martinez conceded he has major worries over three of yesterday’s starters, with midfield duo Aaron Lennon and Ross Barkley both forced off in the second-half:

“Ross and Aaron have been accumulating a lot of minutes. I think Ross had a knock at the end and he couldn’t move freely. Lennon we’ll have to assess, I’m a bit worried about his hamstring. Baines had to stay on but in the last five minutes, he couldn’t move freely, so those three are going to be a serious concern for Saturday.”

Having received his marching orders for a second bookable offence, James McCarthy will be sidelined for the Merseysiders’ home encounter against Southampton this weekend.

Another clean sheet for Palace

Palace lacked the clinical touch to capitalise on their one-man advantage and territorial dominance in the second period.

To the jubilation of managers that targeted the Eagles’ rearguard for their double Gameweek 33, Alan Pardew’s troops notched their second shut-out on the bounce. The recent turn of events is all the more surprising bearing in mind that Palace had failed to keep a shut-out in 12 league outings prior to this week. Nonetheless, Alan Pardew’s side will do well to sustain their diligence during their consecutive road trips (ars & mun) next Gameweek.

Yannick Bolasie came up short for his 50,000 new owners, stretching out his scoreless run to 10 matches. With Manchester United and Arsenal – who possess the best and second-best home defensive records, respectively – next on the Eagles’ agenda, an exodus could be on the cards for the DR Congo international.

Dwight Gayle was forced off at the break through injury and is a doubt for the trip to Arsenal, with Connor Wickham favourite to start at the Emirates this weekend.

Rashford helps United through

Manchester United set up a meeting with Everton in the FA Cup semi-finals after beating West Ham United at the Boleyn Ground.

Marcus Rashford opened the scoring with a sumptuous strike, delighting 30,000 Fantasy managers that snapped him up ahead of the Red Devils’ double Gameweek 34 (AVL & CRY). Hauled off at the break against Spurs last weekend, there were doubts over the youngster’s pitch time after the fit-again Wayne Rooney was named amongst the subs last night but Rashford’s display against the Hammers suggests he may well remain in pole position for the lone striker role over the double.

Anthony Martial also served a reminder of his points potential by providing assists for both the visitors’ goals. The France international remains the most secure route into the Red Devils’ attack and has now recorded attacking returns (three goals and one assist) in four of his previous six starts, which bodes well for his chances of punishing Aston Villa’s obliging defence.

In defence, Timothy Fosu-Mensah was passed fit following his injury scare at White Hart Lane, setting him up for further starts in the coming weeks. Priced at a mere 3.9 in FPL, the Dutch defender’s rise to prominence is an irksome development for Matteo Darmian’s 17,000 new owners, given that the Italian right-back looks highly unlikely to reclaim a regular starting berth.

Tomkins goal not enough for Hammers

Despite mounting a late comeback, West Ham were unable to emerge victorious in their final cup fixture at the Boleyn Ground.

James Tomkins set up a grandstand finish with a goal 11 minutes from time, latching onto an Andy Carroll header. The latter lays claim to four goals and one assist in four outings across all competitions, illustrating his potential to flourish as a differential source of Hammers attacking coverage for their double Gameweek 34 (lei & WAT).

Winston Reid was omitted from the squad and James Collins was only deemed fit enough for a spot on the bench, so James Tomkins partnered Angelo Ogbonna in central defence and Michail Antonio remained at right-back as Slaven Bilic rolled out a 4-2-3-1. Antonio’s 4% ownership will hope that the return of Collins and Tomkins triggers the winger’s reinstatement in the attacking quartet.

I am also confused, plenty of options at the RB spot Darmian Valencia Fosu and even Young, i think Rojo is nailed on to start those 2 matches, only other option is Borthwick Jackson.

    Guys, Lennon problems again:)
So, I am already at -4 and bench-boosting. And I 've currently got 9 players for 35. Should I do something about Lennon?
    A) Keep him
    B) Fernandinho - cheap, got a game in 35, potentially saving me the -4 then
    C) Lanzini (explosive)
D)Lingard (against Villa even he can e a good choice)
    No money for anything else.

Advice from ye old pro's would be much appreciated, chasing ML leader by 80pts.
Also I will be playing my TC this week, my rival has already played TC&WC , BB this coming week it looks like.
I have TC , BB & WC remaining

    Current Starting 11
    Hennessy*
    Coleman* Fuchs Wolly
    Mahrez Ozil* Bolassie* Payet*
    Kane* Lukaku Aguero*

    Subs: Elliot Siggy Francis Borthwick

    What I am thinking @-12
    Hennesy*
    Gabriel Fuchs Wolly
    Sanchez* KDB* Bolassie* Payet*Ozil*
    Aguero* Lukaku*

    Subs: Elliot Bojan Francis Borthwick

I will be wildcarding soon so not overly worried about terrible subs, need a good DGW to keep pace then its WC followed by BB for a late charge...

Bring in Cech, Ruddy, Sakho, Fosu-Mensah, PVA, Simpson, Nasri, Sanchez, Sturridge/Origi

          That's 5 37 DGW players and 6 34 DGW players

Personally I would stick with your current team, get through GW35 and then wildcard GW36 and BB GW37.

Sturridge, Milner, Firmino, Fosu-Mensah, DDG, Martial, Payet with two weeks to transfer in a Chelsea/WHU player. Pretty happy with that.

I see that Fosu-Mensah played the full 90' in the FA match vs WH. Since he's back from his knock last GW, does the fact that he played the entire game mean he's more likely to start the match on Saturday vs Villa, or it now more likely that Darmian will get the starting nod?

Of Rojo, Darmian and Fosu-Mensah, which one has the best chance of playing twice for the upcoming DGW?

Think TFM is a great option - at 3.9 it's as much about what you can do with that 2.6m saved over smalling - for me it's the difference between Mahrez playing once for a defensive Leicester v getting in an on form double KDB for a side still playing for the top 4. Worth it!

After all that moaning about the DGW strategy failing, after last night, turns out that I was one of the highest scorers across my leagues 😀

I'm sticking with the strategy, unless LIV players all get injured tonight.

    Darlow-Robles
    Bellerin Koscielny-Delaney-Sakho-Smalling
    Sanchez-Coutinho-De Bruyne-Lennon-Lanzini
    Aguero Lukaku Martial

Is Lukaku+Lennon to Milner+Caroll worth a hit? Any other potential replacements?

Do they need to play GW35 ? If not someone like Cresswell could be a good option.

Yeah, kinda need them to play GW35, since my current team has 10 players who is playing that week.
So I cant have players from NOR, WHU, MUN, WAT, EVE, CRY

Not good options then really as if you want GW34 DGW players then you need Newcastle or Man City.

Personally I would look at single GW players that have good fixtures in GW34 and GW35 so Spurs or Leicester.

Danny Rose or Kyle Walker could be good options.

Has the (so far) lack of success of GW33 Wildcarders influenced the strategy of any of my fellow GW36 Wildcaders ?

I was all set to do TC GW34, WC GW36, BB GW37

Having left 30 points on my bench last week (Toby, Alli, Williams & Darlow) I am reluctant to bench my Spurs assets again however in my current front 7 there is no way I would bench any of Ozil, Sanchez, Payet, Mahrez, Kun, Kane or Vardy this week in place of Alli.

Likewise in defence I wouldn’t really want to bench Bellerin, Williams or Fuchs for Toby or Dann.

The issue with BB37 is that you have to WC36 and as we have seen this week by playing your WC a week earlier than you would like you may not get a full 15 out anyway (Jags, Barkley, Lennon injuries this week etc) for BB.

So am thinking now BB34, will then have 11 players already for GW35, then WC GW37. Can play the TC chip in either GW35, GW36 or GW38.

    Would welcome your thoughts…………..

Im sticking to my plan of BB w37, TC this week , WC in between...
Lack of success for the early WC players is exactly what I wanted, plan going well so far I'm not going to rip it up now..

I just think that one of the lessons learnt is that it is very difficult to get 15 players a week in advance of the game. Darmien and Gabriel all seemed good options a week ago but not so great now. And we have have seen the injuries especially to Everton players. I just think I would rather WC37 than WC36 and so use BB some other time.

Stick to your guns, when some other time?? time is running out the best way to max the BB is using it as originally planned, on the DGW...
Watch their scores explode this week with 12-15 players, this is where the real damage will be done... Then its our turn

So let's just have a big Özil or Sánchez captain discussion. I'm at Özil at the moment, just because my rivals ain't got him. Actually think Alexis will score higher. Or what?

Impossible to predict who will score more. I have Sanchez, think he has more of a goal threat, so will be captaining him

Toss a coin really. If your rivals will captain Sanchez and you are chasing then captain Ozil. If your rivals will captain Sanchez and you are leading then captain Sanchez.

A lot of my rivals also don't have Ozil but I'm still going Sanchez. More explosive and in better form.

If you were offered 24 points as a captaincy score for the upcoming gameweek on any player, would you take it or gamble on someone else?

So basically, would you be happy with 24 points from your captain?
