Up next this busy Friday afternoon, we roll out our usual pre-Gameweek members article as we cast an eye over the captaincy conundrum ahead of a reduced round of fixtures. As usual, we analyse the Opta data for the main contenders and assess the team statistics and Rate My Team’s reckoning, before rounding off with our opinion on the current poll standings in light of the data analysis, including our view on differential captains.

Captain Poll

Sergio Aguero holds a substantial lead at the summit with over 44% of the votes cast ahead of a home clash with Stoke. Although City have a Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid on Tuesday evening, the Argentine’s six goals in the last four look too good to ignore against a defence that’s conceded four times against both Liverpool and Spurs in their last two matches.

With 28% of the votes, Harry Kane is Aguero’s only real contender as Spurs prepare for the visit of West Brom. Although the Baggies have conceded just four times in five, Kane’s run of three double-figure hauls in five, which includes seven goals, an assist and 11 bonus points, suggests he’ll be a solid rival to the City striker.

Alexis Sanchez is some way back on a mere 5% despite netting three times across double Gameweek 34. The Arsenal midfielder has now racked up six goals and a couple of assists in his last six outings and travels to a Sunderland side with just a single clean sheet in their last nine at the Stadium of Light.

Southampton’s visit to Villa earns Graziano Pelle joint-third spot in the poll. With the midlands side having suffered the ignominy of relegation, the Italian is backed by 5% in light of four goals and three assists in his last five league outings.

Jurgen Klopp’s recent rotation policy means that Daniel Sturridge is another overlooked big-hitter. With Divock Origi ruled out, though, the England international may well lead the line at home to Newcastle – just 3% are willing to roll the dice on the 10.0-priced frontman, who has served up five goals and a pair of assists in six league appearances since returning from injury.

Further down, Pelle’s team-mate Sadio Mane is amongst a handful of candidates on the 1% mark. The Senegal international has netted three times in the last four now and bagged a hat-trick against Villa last season. Dele Alli is another differential option after his two-goal salvo at Stoke and is joined by the likes of Kevin de Bruyne, Roberto Firmino and Riyad Mahrez as all four prepare for home comforts.

Are these current standings backed by the underlying statistics, though?

Let’s start breaking down the player and team data for their respective last four matches and shed a little more light on the situation.

    So here is draft number 356!

    Currently have:

    Robles / DeGea
    Simpson / Bellerin / Sagna / Gabriel / Clyne
    Lanzini / Alli / Milner / Sanchez / Coutinho
    Aguero / Kane/ ?

    £5.3 ITB for a striker and will end up with a -8

    Who would you pick:
    A) Defoe
    B) Ulloa

    Obviously Defoe is a good Long term/DGW pick but does anyone fancy Ulloa for this week? Can't see Sunderland scoring.

    Going without a GK this week also.

    Thank you 🙂

    Is gameweek 35 the last week in April or is gameweek 36 also counted as April?
    Monthly mini league cash up for grabs.

    Does A or B look sound or should I consider something else?

    A) Dann+Nasri > Alderweireld+Alli (-4) and hope Clichy starts

    Or

    B) Clichy> PVA plus the above moves for -8

    Current team:

    ____________Darlow__________
    Bellerin___Sakho__Clichy__Dann*
    Sanchez(c)_Iwobi_Coutinho_Nasri*
    Aguero_______________Sturridge

    Bench: Robles*, Smalling*, Payet*, Martial*

    Took a -12 this week to bring in Kane, Alli, Mahrez and Rose for Lukaku, Coutinho, Lanzini and Smalling. Leaves me with 8 nailed on, no keeper, and 4 rotation risks:

    A) Sakho
    B) Milner
    C) Mitrovic
    D) Gabriel.

    Should I take another hit and if so, who is highest priority to get rid of? Just hit my highest OR of the season (130) after a 169pt bench boost in 34 and I want to maximise my starters without taking needless hits

    Full team
    DDG Robles
    Simpson Gabriel Rose Bellerin Sakho
    Milner Mahrez Alli Sanchez Payet
    Aguero Kane Mitrovic

    Have 0.0 itB, plan to do this for a -12 :

    Martial -> Kane
    Coutinho -> Alli
    Delaney -> Rose
    Smalling -> Fuchs

    Looks template, but okay ? Leaves me with 0.0 itB, have to make all moves together (unless its a high value -> low value transfer).

    Bench : Payet, Sakho, Lovren (starting KdB and Mitro)

    I think I'm good to go with this, yeah? 91K OR looking for that ever elusive green arrow. -4 for the week, thanks to Vardy.

    Migs (Darlow)
    PVA | Rose | Simpson | Bellerin (Gabriel)
    Mahrez | Coutinho | Milner | Sanchez (Payet*)
    Kane (v) | Kun (c) | (Martial*)

    Tempted to swap captains due to thinking Kun may be subbed off early, but then again he may do some early damage and justify his captaincy anyways.

    Help please 🙂

    After using my FT to dump Funes Mori for Rose I'm left with a bare maximum 11 players for GW35 :-

    Cech
    Sakho, Clyne, Bellerin, Rose
    KDB, Ozil, Firmino, Alli
    Aguero, Mitrovic
    Non-players on bench DDG, Rojo, Lanzini, Lukaku. £0.3m itb

    Option1. Stick and risk Sakho, Clyne, Mitrovic not playing - but no penalty
    Option 2. Sell Lukaku/ Ozil/ Firmino for Kane/ Sanchez/ King - 12 point hit
    Option 3. Sell Lukaku/ Ozil/ KDB for Kane/ Sanchez/ Mane - 12 point hit
    Option 4. Other ideas?

    Thanks 🙂
