Man City’s first-leg semi-final against Real Madrid ends goalless at the Etihad. The FA charge Dele Alli with violent conduct following Monday night’s altercation with Claudio Yacob, whilst Norwich’s Timm Klose steps up his recovery ahead of double Gameweek 37.

City’s progress in the balance

The home leg of Manchester City’s Champions League tie against Real Madrid ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

Manuel Pellegrini made five changes from the side that won 4-0 against Stoke on Saturday, with Nicolas Otamendi the only member of the back-four to retain his starting berth – a sign of the Chilean’s intentions to rest and rotate. Further up the field, Kevin De Bruyne and Fernandinho came in for Kelechi Iheanacho and the injured Yaya Toure and the Belgian offered his side’s main goal threat, firing two of their four attempts on goal.

City look almost certain to be without David Silva, though, after the winger was forced off with five minutes remaining in the first period. Discussing the Spaniard’s fitness, Pellegrini went on to say:

“David Silva has a hamstring injury and will not be fit in one week.”

The Scout Says: Although Silva looks poised to miss the weekend trip to St Mary’s, De Bruyne owners will be taking nothing for granted after he was benched for the second time in four league matches against the Potters. Given that the likes of Jesus Navas and Raheem Sterling could be fielded on the flanks if Pellegrini opts for a 4-4-2 at St Mary’s, it’s no real surprise that over 10,000 Fantasy managers have already sold the Belgian this week. Meanwhile, City’s third clean sheet in five outings across all competitions highlights their clean sheet potential. Having changed three of his back-four from the weekend, though, Pellegrini’s team sheet suggests that Joe Hart remains their only safe source of defensive coverage while they’re still fighting on two fronts.

Alli handed FA charge

Dele Alli has been charged by the FA for violent conduct after he appeared to punch Claudio Yacob midway through the first half of Tottenham Hotspur’s home encounter against West Bromwich Albion. The player has until 6pm this evening to respond.

The Scout Says: In the likely event that Alli is found guilty of the transgression, the PFA Young Player of the Year would incur a three-match ban and sit out Tottenham’s remaining fixtures (che, SOU, new). Considering the clear-cut nature of the offence, his substantial ownership is already on the decline, with only three players currently being transferred out in greater volume. Alli has assisted seven of Harry Kane’s 24 goals this term, so his absence slightly reduces the striker’s appeal as a captaincy candidate next time out. On the flip side, Christian Eriksen – who produced attacking returns (one goal, five assists) in all of his last five starts – could profit from a central role and is now the prime choice for those managers wishing to double up on Spurs’ offense. With Alli potentially out of the picture, the likes of Heung-Min Son and Nacer Chadli will be pushing for starts on the flanks, though with eight teams set to feature twice in the penultimate round of fixtures, a Spurs exodus could pick up pace next week if Leicester clinch the title by the end of Gameweek 36.

Stoke’s Wilson suffers setback

Marc Wilson was forced off upon his return from injury during a behind-closed-doors friendly for Stoke yesterday.

The Scout Says: Whilst Wilson looks likely to miss out again as the Potters host Sunderland this weekend, Mark Hughes will at least be able to welcome back Erik Pieters from a two-match suspension as he attempt to address a dire run that’s seen his side concede four times in each of their last trio of league outings – despite the recent return of skipper Ryan Shawcross. Stoke’s lack of resolve bodes well for weekend visitors Sunderland, then, allowing Fantasy managers to eye up the Wearsiders’ attacking assets ahead of their double Gameweek 37 (CHE & EVE). On that note, Jermain Defoe lays claims to good form (three goals in six) and impressive underlying statistics, ranking second for penalty-box touches (34) and second for shots inside the box (13) among forwards across his last four matches. Despite being stationed out wide, Fabio Borini could also emerge as a profitable differential, given that he charted joint-fifth for attempts (13) and joint-seventh for shots inside the box (nine) during that time frame.

Klose steps up recovery

Norwich centre-half Timm Klose took to Instagram yesterday to suggest he’s nearing a return to action before the end of the season.

The Scout Says: Having previously been ruled out for the rest of the campaign by Alex Neil, a possible return for Klose would be a welcome boost to the Canaries’ survival plight. Prior to limping out of the Gameweek 33 clash against Palace on 39 minutes, the Swiss international had served up a goal, two clean sheets and five bonus points in three appearances, helping his side to two wins and a draw. Whilst he seems set to miss this week’s trip to Arsenal, Klose – at 4.2 – is clearly worth monitoring ahead of a pair of home matches in double Gameweek 37 (MUN & WAT) and trip to Everton on the final day of the season that bolster the Carrow Road club’s chances of beating the drop.

Otamendi to be benched this week do you think?
Or will Pellegrini rather bench Kompany and play Ota/mangala ?

Having a bit of a rotation nightmare, my team for the weekend:

    Darlow
    Bellerin Otamendi Lovren Gabriel
    Sanchez KDB Milner Lanzini
    Kane Aguero

    Mitrovic Fosu-Mensah Alli

    I have 1FT and 1.1 ITB

Worried about rotations as feasibly Lovren, Otamendi, KDB, Milner could be rotated. Gabriel will likely be autosubbed as mertesaker has got two clean sheets to his name.
Mitrovic is being used as a sub.
I'm tempted to move Alli for Mahrez as my 1 FT, but think perhaps I should spend -4 to either bring in PVA, Defoe, Carroll.

I'm currently 68 pts clear in my ML so i'm not afraid of taken a few hits - any recommendations welcome.

Lovren should be alright. KDB will play a part, 60mins maybe. Otamendi will probably play with Kompany more likely to be rested in my opinion. Gabriel is probably done for the season

Last week was a disaster for me. I lost 30pts on my two closest rivals. I am the only one with TC left and it is my only hope of victory.

    A) Play it in the DGW
    B) Transfer out Gabriel to free up Arsenal slot for Villa game

I can see Arsenal battering Villa at home. I'm talking cricket score style. But the problem is one of my rivals has Sanchez and the other has Ozil, so for a true differential I would have to TC Iwobi, Giroud or Welbeck (most likely Iwobi). I don't see a stand out candidate for the DGW

    Mignolet (Robles)
    Huth, Simpson, Koscielny (Clyne, Smalling)
    Mahrez, Sanchez, Iwobi, Payet (Coutinho)
    Aguero, Defoe, Kane.

Not certain of a Leicester clean sheet so shall I switch out Clyne for someone with a higher CS potential?? Or do I keep Clyne and get rid of Coutinho and give myself a benching headache??

    A) Coutinho -> Lanzini, Fabregas??

Not for me, Kun's minutes for next game are limited IMO, Silva's injury will affect the supply to Kun. He was really poor yesterday and have ARS GW37. On the opposite, if MUN didn't lose against LEI, spurs will hang on to the last bit of hope and Kane can easily score past CHE's current defense.

I suppose yeah fixture wise Kane does look more appealing. And City do have the CL commitments, Aguero wasn't alive much in the game yesterday but the way Madrid played really restricted City's attacks. I just like Aguero's goals/minutes this season it's much better than Kane's and he has more chance of exploding. I haven't decided who I'll drop if I drop either of them but I would be leaning towards Kane as it stands.

Can you look at my post above please?

I see a lot of people quoting Pelle that League points are just as important as CL and thats why KdB will play...but do you really believe this? Pelle surely won't come out and say f...k league, i won't be here anyway next year and i wan't to try to win CL, and if that means City getting out of top four than who cares.
I think he will rest KdB(maybe play hin last 20mis if chasing), looks like he is the only that can do something in Madrid, and it looked to me that last night KdB had enough strength only for 70mins, last 20 mins he and City were awefull.
In case something hapens to KdB Pelle will have to rely on Sterling and Navas to bring him victory and i don't think he would like that.

I really rated Firmino at the start of the year, had high hopes for him, but he hasn't been the creative force I was expecting him to be.. Looks a bit flat when he's playing in midfield without Coutinho.. Couple that with only 60 minutes of gametime, and he doesn't look a great TC option anymore imo..

        ..unless he starts up front..

I think he's settled in well, its hard to dictate games when you've got a rotation nightmare going on around you but he sets the tempo really well for their press and well he's hardly been quiet when asked to lead the line.

I still think he's a great option. Very involved in Liverpol's play, and his gametime is a lot more assured than Coutinho.

Would be my Liverpool midfielder of choice 🙂

But should we have any Liverpool midfielder?

Well I wouldn't be buying any at the moment, but I also wouldn't sell unless you have the spare FT.

It does seem a bit of a luxury trannie at the moment, however.

I still think his play time will be limited. I prefer players who will get 90mins particularly after the last DGW.

As Sjaugen said I've covered bonus potential in my article though you might want to take stock from this.

Todd's a Hornets fan so I defer to him on their selection issues.

    This week, should I do...

    A) Sakho > PVA
    B) Mitrovic > Defoe/Carroll
    C) Both for -4 (have Alli and Gabriel too)

How likely is Carroll to get 70+ mins in the remaining four matches?

70+ in each of the last 4? I really cant see it

That's my worry too. Other options are Rashford or Deeney, or going with Kun, Kane Sturridge, and shaving off a few £ in mid and def. If I go for a cheap third striker, I'll likely do Kane/Kun to Sturridge for GW37.

    c) Willian

50 pts behind in my league.
Thinking of dumping Aguero -> Lukaku.

Lukaku has easy home fixtures in GW36 and GW38, plus double GW37.
Kun will have reduced game time at the weekend. City are now a pretty safe bet for top 4.
Everton are a shambles, but will always go on the attack.

    So, who is joining me?

aghh, no. There are better courses of action to claw back a 50 point gap than taking out Aguero.

I don't think that will pay off. I'd rather have Carroll, Defoe, Sturridge even if Sturridge played fewer minutes I can easily see him outscoring Lukaku

Sound logical. As someone who kept Lukaku and is keeping him due to the good fixtures and the differential need to catch the leader of my league, I'm still worried about his form. Whilst Agureo looks to be on the best form of the season, but its that time of year where you need to take risks if you want to catch.

People are being swayed by Lukaku's failure in the last DGW.
But he could easily have notched a couple in the FA Cup semi-final. Form can change quickly.
And in terms of fixtures, he is a strong choice.
For me, the only questions are:
        - Is Lukaku nailed on for the next four, or will Martinez use squad players?
        - Is Lukaku still on penalties?
