Vincent Kompany picks up another injury as Man City stumble at the Champions League semi-final stage. Tottenham’s Mousa Dembele is charged with violent conduct by the FA for his clash with Diego Costa on Monday night, whilst Liverpool’s Divock Origi is still hopeful of returning from injury before the season is out.

Kompany limps out of City loss

A 1-0 loss in the Bernabeu saw City’s dreams of Champions League glory extinguished at the semi-final stage.

Having fielded a second-string outfit at Southampton on Sunday, Manuel Pellegrini made eight changes to last night’s starting line-up. The likes of Sergio Aguero, Kevin de Bruyne, Yaya Toure, Gael Clichy, Bacary Sagna and Vincent Kompany were all named in the first XI, though the latter lasted just ten minutes against Madrid before being forced off with a hamstring problem.

After a hugely disappointing performance in which his team managed just a single shot on target – courtesy of De Bruyne – Pellegrini conceded that Kompany will be assessed today after yet another injury setback.

The Scout Says: With Europe no longer a distraction, Pellegrini can now turn his attentions to Sunday’s crucial home encounter with Arsenal. The City manager’s team sheets may have frustrated us in recent weeks – with De Bruyne starting just two of the last five, for example – but considering that they need three points to overtake the Gunners in third, it seems far more likely that the Chilean will roll out his strongest side this weekend. City’s need to go on the offensive to climb back into the automatic Champions League places could be good news for De Bruyne and Aguero owners, then, whilst at the back, Kompany’s potential absence might not be as much of a setback as anticipated – the Etihad side had conceded just two goals in the previous five league matches without their captain prior to the weekend loss at St Mary’s.

Dembele Charged by FA

Mousa Dembele has been retrospectively charged with violent conduct by the FA for an alleged incident with Diego Costa in Monday’s draw at Chelsea. The Spurs midfielder has until 6pm this evening to respond to the charge.

The FA also went on to suggest that, if found guilty, the Belgian could face an extended period on the sidelines:

“Further, it is alleged the player’s behaviour constituted violent conduct in circumstances where the standard punishment of three matches that would otherwise apply is clearly insufficient.”

The Scout Says: Given the nature of the incident, it seems very likely that Dembele will play no further part in the remainder of the season. Already deprived of Dele Alli’s services due to suspension, Mauricio Pochettino could be set to face former club Southampton without two of his first-choice picks in the centre of the park. Should Dembele be handed the expected ban, our faith in Harry Kane could take a turn for the worse. Alarmingly, Spurs’ top scorer has netted just once in the nine league matches that the Belgian has failed to start this season, compared to 24 strikes in 27 outings with him in the first XI.

Origi hopeful of Reds’ return

Divock Origi has stepped up his recovery from the ankle injury that forced him off during last month’s Merseyside derby against Everton.

Discussing his fitness with the Reds’ official website, the Belgian refused to rule out a return to action before the end of the season:

“It’s progressing well. It’s been ten days now so I try and improve every day and make steps, we just try and [ensure that] I’m back as quick as possible. My goal is to come back as soon as possible and I just want to go back on the pitch. I think it’s possible but you never know.”

The Scout Says: Judging by his comments, it seems likely that Origi will miss the Reds’ upcoming double Gameweek home encounters against Watford and Chelsea. Whilst Liverpool’s team sheets remain impossible to second-guess right now, the Belgian’s continued absence could strengthen Daniel Sturridge’s chances of starts. Sturridge has been named in the starting XI in six of the last seven – scoring off the bench in the other fixture – and if he’s named amongst the subs against Villarreal later tonight, many may well be tempted to take a punt on a player with five goals and an assist in his last seven.

I can understand there was a lot going on in that game but surely 'fairness' would mean that he should still be punished. Costa got banned for a stamp on Skrtel didn't he?? I know his was far more malicious but someone can't escape a ban because they didn't raise their foot high to stamp. He's deviated away from the path he was walking to go and tread on Cesc's hand.

        If I didn't already despise Lamela I probably wouldn't care so much but he's a little C***

Ok, just watched the Scoutcast, and I'm more convinced then ever I'm mission out by not having Cresswell. So, if I can build this team for -12:

    Gomes
Fuchs - van Aarnholt - Cresswell
    Hazard - Payet - Townsend - Milner
Aguero - Carroll (TC) - Sturridge

    Hart - Bellerin - Gabriel - Sanchez

...can the following transfers be considered as follows (subject to Liverpool going out):

    Lanzini > Milner (or 6.8M mid) 1FT
    Kane > Carroll -2
    De Bruyne > Hazard -2
    Cresswell > Simpson -2

    Worth it??

**DAmn, I'm so keen to get Cresswell I put his name first 🙈

Feel like decent moves to me, but trying to work out how theyre only -2 hits haha. None of those are guaranteed to get 2 pts!

        1. Jøssy ⭐
          • 11 Years
          10 years, 3 days ago

Well that's why I posed the question, I suppose.

Cresswell is nailed for two games
Hazard almost certainly is after his recent performances (surely)
And I don't buy that Carroll is a rotation risk on current form
Milner is a risk, hence my Liverpool caveat

Do you disagree with any of that?
If not, do you think they're worth a -12?

          1. RustyBz
            • 11 Years
            10 years, 3 days ago

Cresswell should be nailed, has been all season. Hazard & Carroll have been rotated all year round, so anything can happen there. I do expect them both to start though.

I'd be happy with just the -8, but put Sanchez first sub.

            1. Jøssy ⭐
              • 11 Years
              10 years, 3 days ago

              -8 meaning leave which transfer?

And yeah, the Sanchez ordering was a typo. Deffo first sub.

          2. FAITHNOMORENO
            • 14 Years

think I hate going into the gw with -pts,especially more than -8, but if it needs to be done and you'll feel more excited about your team, then it's worth it.

            1. Jøssy ⭐
              • 11 Years
              10 years, 3 days ago

I will feel more excited about my team, but I think I'm being stupid. 2 of the transfers are nailed for Hazard & Carroll, but then I'm taking -8 to remove Lanzini so I can buy Cresswell.

You're absolutely right! That's why I was trying to justify it in my head.

Lanzini is more than capable of delivering at least one double digit haul, or at least a goal, in the DGW.

Should just hold my nerve, and accept I can't have everyone. Hope Cresswell doesn't add an assist to a clean sheet against Swansea.

I suppose the better question is:

                  A) Cresswell + Milner
                  B) Simpson + Lanzini +8

Which scores more in a DGW?

Because they were playing their biggest game in the club history, absolutely no reason to put him in the game, their efforts recently were atrocious, Kun didnt look he was hungry. Paid off last gw by 1 pt. Now everyone is shipping Kun.

I'm 65 ahead of one ML. I have TC, he has no chips. Next closest is 105 from me but he has BB and WC. Should I be confident and concentrate on my other ML where I trail by 61, he has no chips? I'm torn between securing one and making a few differentials to try for other one. Not likely I'll catch him

Forget MLs. Just focus on getting the best possible team out each week and that attitude will take of your MLs by itself.

Then bring Sanchez back in for hazard next week in a straight swap?

Depends really. I'd lose Aguero just because my main opponent in ML owns Kane and I'm ahead so wouldn't want to risk losing points there.

annoyingly my opponent has all three of kane, aguero & sanchez and i'm only 15 points ahead,

I'm sure he will be taking out one to facilitate Hazard though.

John Terry on Thierry Henry: “He had everything, I had sleepless nights before facing Thierry Henry."

The best striker ever to grace Premier League .. pity I didn't play FPL during his time, must be a captain week in week out.

He was immense! You couldn't not have him. I remember him posting as much as 14M, and worth every penny.

Opponents would often think they could spread their money better, and there would be a clear split in MLs of those with him and those without. Double figure hauls every week!!

No biggee. 2 cs are a tough ask for them and there is only Defoe from their attack who needs to be considered although he is hardly prolific esp at home.

Which of the following do you believe are worth a 4 point hit:
(look at each transfer in isolation rather than collectively)

    1) TFM >Smalling;
    2) KDB > Hazard;
    3) Kane > Carroll;
    4) Simpson > Reid

All of them are worth a hit individually.

Haz will do nothing so forget him. It's a dgw so there's little point in worrying about defenders. Mids and fwds are where the big points are at.

          Thanks All

Currently about 15-20 points ahead in money leagues and contemplating whether I should take the points on the board and go in light into the double or sacrifice 8-12 points and stock up for a potential haul.

How do I solve a problem like Ryan Bennett?

    a. Keep him. (Bellerin off the bench if he doesn't play in the dgw)
    b. Sell him. (For who? Already got Smalling, PVA, Bellers, and Gabriel)
