Defending champions Spain lose their 11-match unbeaten run ahead of Euro 2016 after falling to defeat at home to Georgia.

Spain 0 Georgia 1

Spain suffered a shock 1-0 home reverse at the hands of Georgia in their final pre-Euro 2016 friendly last night.

Vicente de Bosque opted for the defensive quartet he mainly favoured over the qualifiers, with right-back Juanfran, who sets you back 5.5, the cheapest option in defence. The Atletico Madrid man was replaced at the break by Hector Bellerin (5.0), though, and bearing in mind that the latter played from start to finish in the previous two, there’s perhaps enough doubts over Juanfran’s pitch time to reconsider his acquisition.

Elsewhere at the back, Gerard Pique – owned by 11% compared to Sergio Ramos’ 29% – proved the greatest close-range threat for the home side and fired three attempts inside the box. David de Gea, meanwhile, was handed his first start in four, though admits he is still uncertain over starting berth given that Del Bosque has now fielded a different keeper in each of the last three.

Despite firing 17 attempts on goal, Spain managed a mere three shots on target, with Del Bosque’s decision to opt for Aritz Aduriz over the in-form Alvaro Morata up front failing to pay off. Given that the former managed a single attempt on goal, Morata will fancy his chances of returning to the XI for the first group match with Czech Republic.

Del Bosque once again opted for Nolito on the left flank. The Celta Vigo man was unable to replicate the form that harvested back-to-back braces against Bosnia and South Korea, he was still joint-top for attempts on goal (three).

The likes of David Silva and Andres Iniesta were afforded second-half sub roles by Del Bosque. The former teed up three scoring chances in just 38 minutes but his team-mates failed to convert.

Spain XI De Gea; Juanfran (Bellerin 46), Ramos (San Jose 46), Pique, Alba; Fabregas (Iniesta 46), Busquets (Pedro 76), Alcantara (Koke 46); Vazquez (Silva 61), Aduriz, Nolito

A or B please folks? Not too confident in Juanfran anymore so trying to shave the funds to upgrade him to Pique/Ramos.

    A) Juanfran, Perisic and Hamsik

    Or

    B) Pique, Fabregas and Alaba

Is Draxler still too much of a punt?

€12m for a man shorn of Bale, Modric, Kroos and Benzema? No thanks. Put him around Giroud's price and I'd be tempted, but he's just too expensive. I'd take Lewa before Ronnie but I can't justify €11.5m on Lewa either.

Wait. You'd be tempted if he was at Giroud's price? You really don't think he's going to score many goals, despite playing as CF against Austria, Hungary and Iceland, and being on penalties and free kicks?

What I mean is, if CR7 was Giroud's price, I'd believe everybody and his dog had him. But you, maybe not anyway? Did I get that right?

That's what he said, but that's bit of a 'show' imo.
If CR7 was 10m, still everyone would get him.

Ok. Thanks. Maybe he would be more than tempted too. While I completely agree with Balders that Ronaldo's price poses a problem for the team building, particularly in this game formate, him being so decidedly against selecting Ronaldo even at lower price is curious. It seems like he doesn't really rate Ronaldo when he plays for Portugal. Maybe he's got a point, now that I look at Ronaldo's recent record, both in tournaments and in these qualifiers, it's not amazing. Rather poor in fact.

                      Yes. And no, I don't.

Firstly, Portugal aren't made of goals - 11 goals in 8 in qualifying. Nor are they prolific penalty winners, Ronaldo has scored 4 penalties for Portugal in 126 games, so being on pens is nice but overrated. Fine he's on freekicks but again its a nice to have rather than a decision maker. Zlatan and Bale are on freekicks too but they are just two other one-man bands I'm ignoring for their mammoth prices. For €11m+ in this game I want what Ronaldo, Lewandowski and Zlatan produce at their clubs not a watered down internationals version.

Secondly I quite rate Austria and Iceland so don't think their gimme games. Hungary might be but that's a decision post-wildcard once I've seen them play Austria and Iceland. Even then though it'll take a really bad team to convince me to shell out €12m on Ronaldo.

                        You never know.

                        2012:
                        Port 3-2 Denmark
                        Port 2-1 Holland

                        2008:
                        Port 2-3 Jerries
                        Port 3-1 Czech Rep

Tbh, I, too, rate Iceland and particularly Austria. Just not that high that Ronaldo shouldn't be able to score a few goals against them. They lack the tournament experience and big names, and regardless of the surprise potential this is what I would call an easy group, a group that Portugal should win relatively easily.

But yeah, I'm not crazy about Portugal's attack in general either - Ronaldo is made of goal though.

In 2008 they had Deco in centre midfield and 2012 had peak Ronaldo out at left wing rather than the current centre forward Ronaldo (still very good, but not as valuable to the team's attack as peak Ronaldo). So I'm sure enough to avoid Ronaldo in this game yeah.

Fair enough, I'm not overly excited about CR7's sidekicks either, just find so damning a comparison to not so mighty Poland a bit harsh.

Not really, he had two great seasons at Man U but his recent CV reads 'Okay in okay leagues' - certainly not as good as Milik's breakout season in the Eredivisie.

Yes X because I'm not sure how they're going to line up.

No, I have heard of them, thanks. As above I'm just not sure how they're going to line up.

Mario over Grosicki fine, but Milik and Grosicki over Nani and Mario. Silva ~ Grosicki. Gomes, no thanks.

No I dont rate this Portugal over other options available.

As for "So damning" I just said I'd rather Grosicki and Milik, take that as damning if you want!

By the way, I'm interested to see your Bayern line-up which includes Lewa, Muller, Gotze, Costa, Robben, Ribery, Coman, Alaba, Vidal and Alonso all at the same time. Sure Bayern have a great squad but you can still only play a certain number at the same time. If I'd added James, Jese and Isco to my list at the same time I'd have got roundly panned.

Don't be silly! 😆 Basically just added them because they are likelier to start than some mentioned before. Obviously only 2 of Costa, Ribéry, Coman and Robben will play at once, for example. But Thiago rather than Götze etc.

If playing another game other than uefa/macdonalds one where budget is relatively not there, and you can oak up to 6 players from any one team.

Do you think Giroud and Griezmann is overkill? I'm thinking it could pay off delightfully...

Trying to identify the most one-sided looking match in GW1 and 2, a possible 4 or 5 nil game. But even the so-called lesser teams like Albania or Hungary haven't suffered any heavy defeats in recent matches. Wales, or maybe Austria haven't shown great form in the friendlies, not that it counts .?

cheers yes the Czechs look a btt leaky. Just thinking could well be one big game that lifts you above the rest of the pack, and very difficult to catch up once ytou get to the knockout rounds.

Is there an online predictor thing anywhere that I can input my predicted scores and it will do the tables and work out the draw for the knockout rounds? It's so confusing trying to work out who might be playing who!

I had both in my squad for a long time. Recently took Ozil out for Draxler to get Alba in my defence, but could very well end up switching back again.

Some it seems. But I think that's exaggerated on here, even though he's been very good in recent friendlies. Spanish newspapers has juanfran nailed.

Indeed he did. Last night's what's worrying me a bit. Previous to that Juanfran has been rested after a long season. Might even be he was rested last night as well.

In all set pieces, and quite good distribution from them. Most key passes by defender over the last few seasons in European big-5 leagues. Possibly on penalties. First two opponents have poor attacks.
