Cristiano Ronaldo and Ricardo Quaresma both score twice as Portugal bring the curtain down on the pre-Euro 2016 friendlies by putting seven past Estonia.

Portugal 7 Estonia 0

Portugal bounced back from last week’s narrow loss against England to register a third win in four with a 7-0 home victory over Estonia.

Cristiano Ronaldo served a timely reminder of just why he’s the most expensive player in the Uefa game last night. Priced at 12.0m, the Real Madrid man bagged a brace and fired five attempts before being replaced by Nani at the break – he’s currently the third most popular forward with 28% ownership.

Handed a second start in the last three friendlies, Ricardo Quaresma was afforded the full 90 minutes and outshone his strike partner by serving up two goals and a pair of assists. The 6.0-priced forward also scored in a win over Norway late last month and looks in pole position to retain his start for the opener with Iceland.

In the centre of the park, Joao Mario (6.0) produced a pair of assists in his fifth successive start. The Sporting Lisbon man has now delivered four assists across that period and, with a mere 2% ownership, looks an in-form differential to consider. Fellow midfield starters Danilo Pereira and Andre Gomes chipped in with a goal and assist respectively.

Renato Sanches (assist) and Eder (goal) both emerged from the bench to play a part in the rout. At a price of just 4.5, the former is owned by 16% of Fantasy managers yet has been utilised as no more than a second-half sub in each of the last five matches.

At the back, Fernando Santos made wholesale changes from the England match as Raphael Guerreiro, Jose Fonte, Cedric Soares and Pepe all returned to a defence that has now shipped just three goals in the last six friendlies.

The former trio have now started three of the last four friendlies and judging by recent teamsheets, seem to have moved up the pecking order of late. Fonte and Soares set you back just 4.5 apiece but, at a price of just 4.0, left-back Guerreiro could be the pick of the budget options if he retains his spot in Santos’ XI. The left-back bagged a goal and assist in a win over Norway late last month and created four chances for his team-mates in last night’s romp.

Portugal XI: Rui Patricio; Soares (Vierinha 46), Pepe (R Carvalho 58), Fonte, Guerreiro; Pereira (W Carvalho 70), Mario (Eder 59), Gomes, Moutinho (Sanches 58); Ronaldo (Nani 46), Quaresma

    Thoughts on this team?

    Patricio Sommer
    Dragovic Alba Hector Rami Schar
    Alaba Payet Perisic Ozil Mak
    Muller Giroud Nolito

Still thinking if I'd rather have Nolito and Payet or Fosberg and Kane. The present one certainly looks better, but the second is much safer.

I have Hamsik so not fussed about Mak. Might go De Rossi, he's a big game player.

Anyone considering picking him up? Might take out Perisic or Hamsik and upgrade one of my defenders and Gotze to Hazard/KDB maybe

He doesn't have the same goal threat as Perisic or Hamsik. A good punt for 6.0, but I'd rather have someone that takes set pieces.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    Ronaldo or Ronaldon't

I've not had Ronaldo in a single official UEFA game draft so far. The price was too high , I thought. Portugal not attacking enough as well. In addition, there are other, cheaper more attacking strikers from more attacking teams.

But Ronaldo is Ronaldo, a truly world class player.

Is he in your team? If so why? If not why not?

He's not in my team because of the cost really.

I don't think he'll score £1.5m-£3.5m worth of points more than the likes of Giroud and Muller.

Ronaldo is a fantastic player, no-one will doubt that, but when it comes to playing for Portugal it's just not the same as playing for Madrid.

I'm portuguese. Not having Ronaldo pains me. Everyone in the private leagues I play will have Ronaldo. But what kept me from him is simple: too expensive for a last day player. I would always be in doubt of changing the captain if my previous one had less than 10 points. I'm saving myself of that. So... Ronaldon't.

      He's not in my team.

      1) Portugal aren't Real Madrid - they play quite conservative football and rack up a fair few clean sheets.
      2) He's got a patchy record at major tournaments
      3) He's significantly more expensive than someone like Muller with a much better team around him
      4) His fixtures are the last - if you have already racked up a decent captaincy score, you probably aren't going to take the risk. That means you've spent £12m on someone you won't captain. Of course, on the flip side, if you haven't got a decent captaincy score yet, there's no one better but he's an expensive safety net.

A bit of both, planning to wild card at the end of game week 2 and will leave him out till then, however he will be in when Portugal play, imo, the worst team at these euros in Hungary. As for the knockout stages, I haven't thought that far ahead.

My main reluctancy with Ronaldo is all around the captaincy. As the most expensive player and probably the most potential for big scores in any round, the fact that he plays last is a big downer for me. Imagine GW1 for example. A lot will likely have had Giroud/Kane/Muller/Morata (or other decent alternatives) as potential captains before it even gets to Ronaldo, so the chances are at least one of them will have netted a decent score. With Ronaldo playing last do you twist or stick then? If you twist you take a big gamble (I really don't see Portugal repeating last nights scoreline in competitive matches, no matter the opposition) and if you stick you're losing a lot of the point of having him with his hefty price tag...for me €12m is too much for a player I may very well never get to captain!

I'm ecstatic to own Giroud and Mueller like everyone on here, and still have Cr7 on the last day. Even if I don't (c) him.

But I get where everyone is coming from.

      Ronal-do

I always try to find the player which is the focal point of the team. Ronaldo is just that.

In addition, I think the tournement is going to revolve around top defenders and top strikers. There are plenty of ~7m midfield options to fill the gaps.

Plus having a strong captaincy option for the last matchday is key.

      So yes Ronal-do!

He's in instead of Kane. The 3.5 hit can be taken w/o too much pain given the plethora of decent 7's in midfield & 5's at the back. Last day concerns? Not really, could even come in handy.

Even with all the benefits of having him, the cost is just way too high. In FPL we'd get a 4.5 midfielder and maybe a 4.0 defender to cover the cost, but in this game that's just not an option.

I've not had him in any team so far. Far too expensive for a team that will be focusing on keeping clean sheets and winning games 1-0. Its a big risk as he could easily 5+ goals in the group stages but looking at Portugal's previous tournaments can't see him doing that well.

People want to see what they want to see. A bunch of 1-0's doesn't necessarily mean Portugal are 'conservative', maybe it's just circumstance; and anyway, how many qualifiers have we actually seen Portuguese play with our own eyes?

Last night's Portugal proved they do have that magic in them.

Those that don't have Ronaldo will try to find dozens of arguments to not own him, but that won't stop them to be anxious and sweaty till that last day of the gameweek.

Ronaldo is a headache of epic proportions... if you don't have it and someone else does in your league and he does come off... your done on game day 1. so the plan is to see who has him and then shift him if he is not well represented in my league.

Does make the rest of my team a headache ... so the is the game day 1 starting line up

      Sommer ( Patricio)

      Denayer - Rami - Rodriquez - Srna - ( Guerreiro)
Perisic - Stanciu - Payet - Dzemaili (Alaba)
      Giroud - Mueller (Ronaldo)

      Any thoughts will be appreciated.

I've read many a Croatian football article. Strinic has the edge versus his rival, owing to the fact he's the only natural LB in the squad.

As you probably know multiple bookies are offering bets for the outright winner of the Euros + freebets for each game they win along the way. I'm tempted to go for someone with longer odds who might get to the semis and cash out - Portugal, Croatia, Italy.

Who are you tipping for outright winner + dark horses for the quarters/semis?

I agree those 3 are the best dark horses

Depends how you look at it. A defender gets the same amount of points for a cleanie as a striker does for a goal. Winning team more likely to get around 4-5 cleanies imo. Equivalent of a golden boot winner
