Wednesday signals the start of the second round of Euro 16 group matches and, for DraftKings managers, that could well herald a switch in emphasis to a bigger squad spend in attacking areas.

There’s no question that some nations are already put in a “must-win” scenario as a result of setbacks in their opening matches.

Romania were unfortunate to fall victim of Dimitri Payet’s brilliance in Friday’s tournament opener and will now be forced to go on the attack against Switzerland. The Swiss earned three points but failed to impress against 10-man Albania and, while they’ll be content to earn a point, they will know that their defence will come under severe pressure from the determined and talented Romanians.

Equally, over in Group B, Slovakia will need to prioritise attack against Russia following their late defeat to Wales. The Russians rode their luck against England and will likely attempt to hold out against Slovakia who will surely go all out for a victory.

As for France, with three points in the bank, they could now cut loose against an Albanian side who will be forced onto the front foot by their unfortunate defeat to the Swiss. Albania earned a shock 1-0 win the last time the two nations met in 2015; that will ensure that there’s little room for complacency in Didier Deschamp’s ranks.

These factors should result in a swing towards more attacking football which, for DraftKings managers, will mean putting greater emphasis on match winners in those sides with the greatest motivation to score goals.

We’ve selected five targets that we’re expecting to shine, providing a solid spine to any eight-man DraftKings squad set up for Wednesday’s contests.

Marek Hamsik – Slovakia, – $8800
The Napoli midfielder waltzed through a Welsh defence to strike an opening blow in Saturday’s clash, only to be denied by a last ditch block from Ben Davies. Hamsik’s attacking threat was largely nullified from that point on but he still fetched decent returns via five tackles won. With his nation seeking a vital victory, the scene is set for Hamsik to lead the charge after topping the Slovakian ranks for shots and notching five goals in qualifying.

Dimitri Payet – France, – $10300
Payet’s performance on Friday elevated him to a new status on the international stage, ensuring that few DraftKings managers can afford to ignore him from this point on. Quite simply, his game is designed to fetch strong base returns due to his seemingly relentless delivery of crossed balls from both open play and set-pieces. Payet created eight chances for team-mates via 12 crosses whilst scoring that early contender for goal of the tournament; Albania seem unlikely to have an answer to his flourishing talents.

Patrice Evra – France, – $5000
While Albania posed an attacking threat against the Swiss, their record in qualifying, with just seven goals scored, would suggest that they will struggle to make an impression on the French rearguard. Evra was at fault for Romania’s goal on Friday and the former skipper will be looking to atone for his error. He played far further up the pitch than Bacary Sagna on the right and provided three crosses with two tackles won. With Payet possibly deployed on the left but drawn inside, Evra’s frequent raids on the overlap could be a feature of Wednesday’s clash.

Nicolae Stanciu – Romania, – $5100
Stanciu’s delivery from dead-balls was a key weapon in Romania’ armoury against a hesitant French defence. The 23-year-old crafted three opportunities for team-mates via four crossed balls and it was his purposeful run that drew the foul from Evra for Bogdan Stancu’s converted spot-kick. Stanciu’s contribution to the Romanian effort looks likely to be key against the Swiss.

Christian Sapunaru – Romania, – $3900
Another player to emerge from Friday’s French reverse with great credit, the experienced full-back was a willing outlet down the right flank. Sapunaru saw plenty of the ball going forward, receiving more passes in the attacking third than any of his team-mates. It translated to three crosses, whilst his defensive efforts earned an interception and two tackles won. We’re expecting Sapunaru’s forays down the right to feature heavily in Romania’s bid to overhaul the Swiss backline.

DraftKings contests for Wednesday’s matches are now available, including a $3 entry “Striker” with a $9k prize pot.

DraftKings is available only to those aged 18 or over. Be sure to take note of their Terms and Conditions here.

not sure whether to wildcard or not.

    opinions?

    Sommer - Patricio
    Alba - Schar - Dragovic* - Hector - Rami
    Gotze - Alaba - Perisic - Payet - Stanciu
    Muller - Nolito - Giroud

wasnt planning on using it this early but Nolito didnt impress me and Dragovic needs to go as well, probably for giaccherini. Gotze not impressing me either.
    Thoughts?

thats what im thinking, not sure whether its worth using up the wildcard this early though, not sure i would make to many other changes other than dragovic, gotze, alaba and nolito.

real question is how many transfers justify using wildcard?

I'd back Italy to keep clean sheets against Sweden and Ireland after seeing that display against Belgium. Of course you could be right but an OoP 5.0 Italy defender looks too good to ignore.

I do agree they looked very good but there is the factor of who they played. Italy I think will need to setup differently against both of those teams compared to Belgium who controlled possession. The Belgium game suited the italians in my opinion as they soaked up the pressure and hit them on the counter.

Sweden and ireland are 2 poorer teams compared to Belgium and have less possession and will actually look to hit italy on the counter.

I can see why people want giacherrini though so I can't say no to it

Which transfer ? Either Alaba to

    A Stanciu
    B Grosciki
    C Kroos

    Existing front 8 is

    Alli, Payet, Perisic, Alaba, Ozil
    Muller, Nolito, Giroud

Getting in Kroos I would have to do - 4 and take out Ozil for either Grosciki/ Stanciu as have Hector in defence too

Out of those two, I'd go A. As tempting as point hits are it's a short tournament and you don't get much time to make them back up, particularly with the definite wildcard after the groups.

Worth a WC? Thinking I could lose Kozacik, Denayer, De Bruyne, Janko for Kiraly, Giaccherini, Payet, Pelle.

Actually not Kiraly as he plays the same day as Patricio. Sommer then.

      No for me

You could lose Denayer but you have 4 great other options there
Middfield looks good, Belgium needs to win and Wilmots will give in to all the criticism and play KDB in the hole again I think, expect something big from him.

I would just sell Janko since you already have Alaba there as well

Thanks. Issue is lack of decent replacements for Denayer and Janko at that price. Thinking either Denayer to Strinic or Janko to Nani/Szalai.

Captaining Denayer would have gotten me more points than what my current captain got me. Dragovic -_-

    Sommer/Rui Pat

Rami Hector Giaccherini/ Raphael Guerrerio Juanfran

    Mak Ozil Payet KDB/ Alaba

    Nolito Giroud Muller

What transfer do I make with the 1 available transfer, I was thinking
Nolito but he's spainish coverage, any help?

the lack of striker goals in this tournament so far is rather worrying. I know it's first round but just makes me think of getting rid of muller. He seems to be playing out wide and very ineffective out there

agreed, he does look the best so far and looked very dangerous. One negative is I guess he was playing against one of the weakest oppositions but he has a good record and I think with teams concentrating on lewa he has a good chance

Sturridge is a much better option going forward for England. I think he's much more suited to the system and players behind him.

Not too mention he's better than Kane

    B) Junuzovic + Götze --> Konoplyanka + Kroos (-4)

Enough of this Euro 2016 foolishness.

Premier League fixtures are out tomorrow. Yay!!!

My Euro team sucks, the useless bunch of crocks. Would wildcard but can't be arsed to stay up another hour dicking about with team selections. So bed it is.

No. He should deliver in the next games. And then he will fail in the knockout stages.

It would be frustrating to have Ronaldo as a teammate. He gets angry at you when you miss a clear chance but when he does it it's OK. Then after missing a few golden chances he has the audacity to continue taking free kicks because his ego prevents him from recognizing that he's trash at taking them.

    1. RᴀᴄɪɴɢTᴏᴀᴅ

Then at the end of the game he leaves the pitch before everyone else and sulks in the changing room. Must be bad for team spirit.

Yeah, and that's why Portugal never advance in the latter stages these days. They don't play like a team where every player is equally important. Those teams who has a strong collective and a clear tactic, like Germany and Italy, always win.

Think it would be frustrating for him looking around the Portugal dressing room and seeing a bunch of players not even remotely close to his level.. a level he reached with a work ethic perhaps they don't share.. I would be thankful if i was one of those team mates because they wouldn't be at the Euros without him.. sure he's petulant and gets on like a bit of a dick sometimes but at least he pays his taxes lol
