The second round of group matches continue at pace, with DraftKings managers again assessing the talent on offer as we form our eight-man squads.

Friday’s fixtures provide more teams who will be forced to attack in a bid to earn a foothold in the tournament.

Both Turkey and the Czech Republic suffered defeat in their opener, leaving them little option but to seek three points this time around.

The Turks face the daunting task of overcoming a Spanish side who dominated the Czechs in their opener, eventually translating possession into a cutting edge via Gerard Pique’s glancing header.

The Czech Republic showed enough in that defeat to suggest that they will still have a say in Group D, but must now look to better a Croatian side that bristled with attacking menace in their win over Turkey.

Over in Group E, Italy will look to build on a superb display against Belgium by disposing of Sweden to book passage to the knock-out phase. The Swedes rescued a point against the Republic of Ireland and will likely look to soak up Italian pressure, again relying on the influence of Zlatan Ibrahimović to see them through.

We’ve analysed the six squads on offer to arrive at another set of DraftKings targets who seem destined to make key contributions in Friday’s contests.

Ladislav Krejci – Czech Republic, – $6800
The fleet-footed left-winger provided crosses at a faster rate than any other Czech Republic player during qualifying. He maintained that record during five appearances in friendlies and impressed again in the defeat to Spain, providing 10 crossed balls. His pace and supply line looks set to be vital in the crunch clash with Croatia.

Caner Erkin – Turkey, – $4100
Turkey’s forward-thinking left-back thrived in the qualifying rounds. The 27-year-old provided more crosses and interceptions than any other Turkey player, ranked second for tackles won and even fired in nine goal attempts. Inter snapped him up prior to the tournament and Erkin duly impressed in his Euro 16 bow, providing six crosses and a shot on target in the defeat to Croatia.

Marcelo Brosovic – Croatia, – $4900
The 23-year-old midfielder contributed two goals to the Croatian cause in qualifying and followed this up with another pair of strikes heading into the tournament. It was Brosovic rather than striker Mario Mandzukic who provided the major threat in the win over Turkey, firing in six efforts on goal, five from within the penalty area.

Ivan Perisic – Croatia, – $7100
Another to impress in Croatia’s tournament opener. Perisic contributed an all-round shift against Turkey that saw him win three tackles and make three interceptions, while he was unfortunate not to claim a goal following his raids into the box that brought two attempts. The Inter midfielder top scored in qualifying with six goals, registering more attempts than any of his team-mates. A first Euro 16 goal is beckoning.

Antonio Candreva – Italy, – $7200
Candreva was a key component of Italy’s qualifying campaign, providing more crosses and goalscoring opportunities than any team-mate. The Lazio winger’s display in the impressive 2-0 win over Belgium saw his stock rise further as he tormented Jan Vertonghen throughout, swinging in ten crosses and providing three chances for team-mates, including the assist for Graziano Pelle’s coup de grace.

DraftKings contests for Friday’s matches are now available, including a $3 entry “Striker” with a $10k prize pot.

DraftKings is available only to those aged 18 or over. Be sure to take note of their Terms and Conditions here.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Quick captain poll for tomorrow!

    A) Perisic
    B) Giaccherini

Perisic was amazing last game and has a chance of a extra point through a cleansheet
Giaccherini plays for the best defence in the game and Sweden rely heavily on Ibra

Would you have him ahead of Lukaku, Giroud or more likely Stancu?

Sorry if this is a dumb question.

When the transfer markets open after MD3 will I be able to buy players from teams that are already out?

For example, if Albania get eliminated will I still be able to buy one of their 4m defenders as bench fodder to allow me funds for more expensive players, even though they are out of the tournament?

I doubt it. In theory though If you do that it eliminates your ability to switch that player off of your bench when one of your main squad fails so I don't think it would benefit you enouh

Probably not. I think you can only do transfers after last group game is over but since the rules only show deadlines it's not clear for me.

Anyways you're better off with 4.0m options from teams in last 16. They have almost no chance of gametime but players from eliminated teams definitely won't play.

Ok cheers guys. I was just thinking how hard it's going to be to get 15 playing players in the later stages, especially with price rises.
Green red makes a good point though, most squads should have at least one or two cheap squad players who will never play.

Finished a WC draft, not gonna change much about it

    Rui Patricio - Tatarusanu
    Hector - Boateng - Bonucci - Sapunaru - Taylor
    Kroos - Hamsik - Stanciu - Alaba - Alli
    Ronaldo - Bale - Sturridge

Stanciu is my "punt" - pretty sure he'll start. He's Romania's best player by far and I see big potential vs Albania, first name on my team tbh

Everyone was extremely surprised he hasn't started and they're asking why that happened. Chipciu got a place in the starting XI ahead of him and made a huge mistake at the goal. Everyone knows he's Romania's best player and he's the only one who has been delivering constantly in recent times, there's no way he won't start this huge game. At 5.5 he is amazing value considering you get him for one game only and that game is against Albania.

I would like to make a ticker which shows potential ties during knockout stages and maybe tries to take account of the fact teams will have been knocked out at different stages.

Maybe takes account of probability who is likely to still be in the competition at each stage

Any ideas on how to achieve this?

Huge reason to wildcard this week. Only issue I have is we only get 4 transfers after the Round of 16. Might not be enough with potential injuries, rotations and the unpredictability of who gets through. Having a full 15 players is important.

Another Muller fail is a likely drop for example.
Players outscore their price are likely to rise.
Payet, Stancu, McAuley and Schar are the ones most likely to rise.

Interesting. The performance based pricing really leads people to chase last week's points, a strange concept in a tourney where each match changes so dramatically in significance.

        2. aad
          • 9 Years
          9 years, 8 months ago

Players such as Payet, German defence (maintaining two clean sheets), and several others are guaranteed to increase in value based on just their performance from the first two matchdays. Also, you might want to get rid of players who have the potential to decrease in value such as Muller, Ronaldo in case he underperform in the next match; then you can buy them back again at a discount during the Round of 16 transfer period. #JustSaying

            • 14 Years

Fair enough, but none of those scenarios focus on chasing next week's points. Just don't agree with the price based wild card strategy, I guess.

If you can guess the quarter finalists and cover them well, you won't need a WC as the MD transfers will cover the casualties.

It does. That's how I am thinking about it: Presumably, someone might want to add Stancu and Bale. They both need the win in next match to guarantee a top-2 group spot, so rotation is unlikely and could earn you decent points given their first two performances. Additionally, after the round, you'll have more money to play with, as I guarantee you they will increase in value. That will help you have a more balanced formation during the playoffs. Also, several of my defenders are playing against my attackers, which is a dilemma that cannot be solved other than using the WC
