Monday evening hands DraftKings managers the final two Group B fixtures to consider as both England and Wales look to book a place in the knockout stages.

As evidenced by France’s starting XI last night, which saw Didier Deschamps make five changes to his line-up, rest and rotation is sure to play a part in this final round of matches.

Fortunately, DraftKings allows us to take in the teamsheets before each fixture, adjusting our eight-man squads accordingly.

This could be particularly pertinent tonight, given the growing reports that suggest England could make up to six alterations, with the likes of Nathaniel Clyne ($4600), Ryan Bertrand ($4500), Jack Wilshere ($5100) and Jordan Henderson ($4700) all worthy of our consideration if selected.

Roy Hodgson has a real dilemma up front for England’s showdown with Slovakia after Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge both emerged from the bench to grab a goal apiece in the 2-1 comeback win over Wales. The duo will be pushing for a start as the Three Lions look for a victory that would ensure they finish top of the group.

Slovakia duo Marek Hamsik and Vladimir Weiss both bagged a goal and assist against Russia last time out and carry the main threat to England’s chances.

Bottom of the table Russia are still in with a shout of progressing. Indeed, a win over Wales, coupled with a triumph for England, would clinch second spot for Leonid Slutsky’s side, though they face a tough task to stop Gareth Bale from scoring for the third successive outing.

We’ve assessed this evening’s couple of encounters to help steer your DraftKings selections ahead of Monday’s contests.

Daniel Sturridge – England, – $9200
The Liverpool frontman may well be set for his first start of the tournament after grabbing a late winner over Wales. Introduced after the break, Sturridge produced four attempts against Chris Coleman’s side – more than any team-mate – and his eye for goal could prove pivotal against a Slovakia backline that’s mustered a single clean sheet in their last six outings.

Aaron Ramsey – Wales – $7700
An all-round option in the centre of the park, Ramsey has attempted more tackles than any player in the tournament and sits joint-top amongst all midfielders for efforts on target. The number one for corners under Chris Coleman, he’s produced more crosses than any Wales player so far and also supplied an assist in the opening 2-1 win over Slovakia.

Oleg Shatov – Russia, – $7100
Russia’s main man for dead-ball duties supplied seven crosses and earned an assist in the 2-1 loss to Slovakia last week. Stationed in a central support role, Shatov – who served up seven goals and eight assists for Zenit St Petersburg in 2015/16 – looks a key figure as Leonid Slutsky’s side attempt to get the better of Wales and clinch a slot in the knockout stages.

Chris Gunter – Wales, – $3800
The Wales defender offers a budget-friendly option for the utility slot in our eight-man DraftKings line-ups. Not only has Gunter seen more of the ball in the final third than fellow wing-back Neil Taylor, he’s matched the Swansea City man for crosses and betters him for successful tackles ahead of tonight’s crucial head-to-head with Russia.

DraftKings contests for Monday’s matches are now available, including a $3 entry “Striker” with a $10k prize pot. The deadline for today’s contests is 8pm UK time.

DraftKings is available only to those aged 18 or over. Be sure to take note of their Terms and Conditions here and play responsibly.

I'll decide later. I definitely think both have potential. I guess it's whether I think either will score more in a knockout game then they would tonight

See I already used Morata and Lukaku but either would do well to get hattie's from now on

not sure it will be a 4-3-3. surely he will have Vardy and Sturridge up top, Dier/Hendo in the middle with Wilshere/Lallana on the flanks

        1. Jazz!
          • 11 Years
          10 years, 1 month ago

          Either 4-3-3 or a diamond:

          Dier
          Hendo Wilshere
          Lallana
          Sturridge Vardy

Lallana not great as a no.10 though, but would prefer that than having Vardy wasted playing out wide.

You say 2 moments of individual brilliance. I say 2 lucky moments where keeper has let the ball into his net.

He's been very very average apart from hitting the target in those 2 free kicks.

In a moment of boredom here is my thought of the day! The decision to wildcard in GW3 I feel in theory has more merits than disadvantages...though it has probably NOT worked for me. The logic that with price changes due after GW3 these will impact on your ability to put the strong performers back in your team. However given that we have an extra 5m to play with and likely to retain some cheaper squad players even in GW3 I don't think the damage is significant. I set up my squad for GW3 totally disregarding retention of key players and attempting to maximize that GW score alone. My squad and thoughts below...

Tatarasanu - failed 3 points (though I may keep him) - Rui Patricio on bench
Defence: Howedes/Hector/Jed (polish guy)/Guerreiro (rumoured to be injured?)/Barzagli - could be decent bunch I hope - German clean sheet please?
Midfield: Coman failed 3 points (but better than Payet 1 point who I swapped out for him) Hamsik/Kroos/KdB/Rakitic - the latter a definite gamble - I have no Spain defence cover - huge gamble!
Strikers: Griezmann - failed 2 points - Milik/Sturridge. I flirted with Bale and Morata (he may be rested) and couldn't afford Ronaldo

So ultimately I shall probably get more players on the pitch than most but it has cost me in price upgrades for players I must get back in - Payet, Alba of course.

Hope you enjoy the read and wonder if you agree with my thinking?

i do agree, i never liked the idea of wildcarding for GW3 just for the points (mainly 'cause i was worried about rotation, which seems to be validated so far), it was only ever gonna be about pre-emptively jumping on the price hikes for me. i decided to keep my WC though.

if it's any consolation, i find that the cream of the crop usually rises in the knockouts, and the players who perform there may not have much overlap with the players who've performed in the groups, so not having much budget to play with could end up being a blessing in disguise, forcing you to avoid some premium flops in favour of juicy under-the-radar mid-priced options. you never know!

anyways, you could still do well this week with that team. good luck!

The Team I was supposed to get with a panic wc when I realized both Payet and Giroud was benched and Spain players were possible Rotation Risk is:

      GK-Sirigu Patricio
      Def-Metel(Failed) Meunier Howedes Hector PolandDef
Mid-Alli(DIdn't even know the rotation risk) Kroos Hamsik Hazard Coman(failed as well)
      Fwd-Bale Milik Ronaldo

But I stuck with my team of
      GK- Sommer(Success) Patricio
Def- Rami(Success) Juanfran(A risk) Guerreiro(Maybe a risk) Dier and Hinteregger
Mid- Fab(A risk) Alli Mak Perisic Payet(Failed)
Fwd- Milik(subbed for Giroud with the FT) Ronaldo Muller.

Pretty sure the three Fwd's will play. Mak Perisic Dier Hinteregger will too. Just need 2 of Guerreiro, Juanfran, Fab, Alli to start. Would keep the highest point getters I guess.

And now I have a huge wildcard to play in the Quarters.

I agree that Alli & Rooney are better attacking players but against better sides , I would start Henderson as he is much better defensively imo.

I would play the midfield which won against Germany : Dier - Hendo - Alli
