A mostly Dimitri Payet-free France were frustrated by a resolute Switzerland as both sides progressed in Group A, while Albania kept their dreams alive with a deserved victory over Romania.

Here’s how the first set of final group matches panned out.

France 0 Switzerland 0

France and Switzerland played out the draw that guaranteed them both passage to the knock-out stages, with the hosts through as Group A winners.

Didier Deschamps again mixed things up, making five changes from the side that beat Albania. Paul Pogba and Antoine Griezmann returned, while Yohan Cabaye, Moussa Sissoko and Andre-Pierre Gignac were also drafted in.

The key absentee was Dmitri Payet (8.0), the most popular pick in the official Uefa game, with 61% ownership.

Pogba (8.5) flourished in his absence in the first half, finishing the match with four attempts and three chances created. There is, however, a distinct feel of the old Frank Lampard/Steven Gerrard conundrum about Pogba and Payet, and when the West Ham man came on in the second half, Pogba’s star waned dramatically.

Griezmann (10.0), at 31% the most popular striker pick of the Matchday, was industrious throughout. He created four chances, supplied 10 crosses and had two attempts for a good DraftKings showing. After such a great season for Atletico Madrid, though, he looks more of a provider than a goalscorer in France’s 4-3-3 system and 10.0 is a high price to pay for such a role.

Switzerland turned in their best performance of the tournament to date and look likely to face Poland in the Round of 16 – a match they have a decent chance of winning.

Goals remain a problem, though. They managed only six shots against the French, none of which were on target, and although Breel Embolo (6.0) has pace and power, he is a raw talent in need of better service than the conservative Swiss have yet to provide.

Full-backs Ricardo Rodriguez (6.0) and Stephan Lichtsteiner (5.5) both completed a team-high five crosses, with the former also having one attempt, and they remain sound DraftKings picks.

Fabian Schar (5.5) put in another solid shift in a defence that has kept two clean sheets and could keep another if indeed it is Poland next. That frugality is the most this competent but limited Swiss side has to offer.

France have Payet and home advantage. The quarter-finals beckon, but they will have to up their game if they are to mix it with the best sides this tournament has to offer.

Romania 0 Albania 1

Armando Sadiku (5.0) made footballing history for Albania, scoring their first goal to secure their first points in their first ever international tournament.

It was also enough to see off a Romania side that started brightly but faded badly – a microcosm of their tournament as a whole.

Sadiku’s winning header came from a Ledian Memushaj (4.5) cross that bamboozled goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu towards the end of a first half that Albania grew into.

They were rarely troubled after the break and although Romania out-shot their opponents 16-14, Albania had more attempts on target (5-3).

Memushaj was the stand-out performer, with a further six chances created to go with his assist, eight crosses completed and three shots attempted, two of which were on target.

If Albania make it through as one of the four best third-placed sides, they might well face England in the Round of 16. At such a low price, he’s a fifth midfielder budget enabler well worth a look.

Albania’s compactness and work rate went unrewarded in narrow defeats to Switzerland and France. The Romania win will give them huge belief and if they do progress, Mergim Mavraj (4.5) offers a lot as a DraftKings option – his tally of nine successful tackles has been bettered by only two other defenders and a total of seven interceptions also places highly in the defensive rankings.

For those in need of a budget third striker, Sadiku looks in decent form – the match-winner against Romania was the fifth time he’s scored in the previous last nine international outings.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Day 2 plans. After what for many may have been some hurried changes last night who are you looking to captain tonight? Anyone sticking with last night's captain?

Also for those that wildcarded what sort of team are you left with? Any regrets?

With Kane likely not to start. Candreva a huge injury doubt, Italian press predicting a rest for Bonnuci, and Giroud and Matuidi missing from the starting XI I ended up wildcarding last night.

New team though is focused on what I hope are sure starters with some new cash to spend on some Belgian treats and a Welsh wizard

      Sturridge (c) for me tonight.

Bale, KDB, Lukaku, Kroos among my new recruits.

I wussed out on getting Sturridge in. Alli is on the bench but at least I got Bale, Kroos and KDB in!

I captained Rami for 5 points. Think I might gamble although I don't have the strongest set of options compared to a lot of people:

      Monday: Kozacik/Sturridge
      Tuesday: Konoplyanka/Muller/Alba/Ramos/Nolito/Perisic
      Wednesday: Patricio/Alaba/Giaccherini

Basically that's Sturridge -> Muller -> Alaba/Patricio depending on line ups.

      Not fantastic.

Sturridge - Perisic - Lukaku/KDB for me. Insane panic wildcard last night with Uefa site's dodgy connections ended up ok, I hope.

I have the same 3 choices (although I have Sommer CS so won't risk Patricio).

I'll twist for now as Sturridge and Muller up next, and I just need a goal from them and I'm a point better off, with potential for more. If it comes to the worst then it will be going on Alaba at the end!

Wildcarded just before deadline last night. Looking at my main mini league, pretty confident that they've got a lot of players likely to be rested. After sweating on Ronaldo's performances last two weeks, i've employed him for this GW along with Bale, Kroos and Milik.

Although I'm quite happy with my decision to hold onto the WC and focus on QF instead. With OR of 30, pretty much on top of most of my ML. 🙂

Wildcard yesterday will be fine if the big guns perform. No rotation worries in my side and hopefully my gambles will pay off. Double Poland defence and Toby A to play, as well as loads of solid options throughout the squad.

      Captains:
Punted on Gignac yesterday but I'm telling myself it doesn't matter..
      Monday - Bale
      Tuesday - Hector
      Wednesday - Ronaldo /KDB.

Bale/Sturridge today - with Vardy looking like he'll start through the middle Bale against those Russian's looks my best option

Błaszczykowski/Kroos/Draxler/Hector in that order for Tues

      Ronaldo for Wed

How unlikely is Pelle to start? The problem is he plays at 20:00 so I would just have to gamble (well, 'gamble') and sacrifice Payet's 1 point.

No, you won't. You effectively get a wildcard for the next GW but it's one that you have to use that week. Save your 'anytime use' wildcard for the quarter finals.

The round of 16 is the next GW (or Matchday as the UEFA site confusingly calls it). We all get unlimited transfers for that so don't use your wildcard on it!

You don't wildcard after this gameweek (the group stages) - you have unlimited transfers anyway. You'll have your wildcard available to play before the quarter finals (or after that if you continue to save it)

    Here's a question for you...

    Round of last 16 points

    Goalless draw after 90mins.
    Goalless draw after 120mins.

How many points for clean sheet for defender on all 120 mins? 6? 8? 12?
How many points for a defender that came on at half time in normal time?
How many for a defender that concedes in extra time?

I imagine this must have cropped up before in UCL fantasy game before but I've never played it...

      Some excerpts from here: http://eurofantasy.uefa.com/en/fantasy16/rules...

      Action Points
      Playing in a game 1
Playing at least 60 minutes in a game (includes points mentioned above) 2
Goalkeeper not conceding while on pitch (must play at least 60 minutes) 4
Defender not conceding while on pitch (must play at least 60 minutes) 4
Midfielder not conceding while on pitch (must play at least 60 minutes) 1

      Clean sheets
A clean sheet is awarded for not conceding a goal whilst on the pitch and playing at least 60 minutes.

      Other
Extra-time events count but penalty shoot-outs do not.

Basically if a player is on the pitch for 60+ minutes and don't concede in that time they're eligible for the standard clean sheet points.

    Hart

I don't know, but with certain exceptions this team seems better than the one from the first 2 games.

Stupidly missed the deadline.. Current squad is like so:

    Randolph (-)
    Bonucci(-) // Alba(-) // Koscielny(5) // Gonul(-)
    Candreva(-) // Ozil(-) // Payet(2)(C)
    Giroud(0) // Muller(-) // Nolito(-)

    {{ Sommer(7) // Stanciu(2) // Schar(6) // Konoplyanka(-) }}

So, the question is.. Would you resign yourself to losing out on Schar's 6 points by subbing in Konoplyanka for Giroud and changing the captaincy from 1-point-Payet?
OR... would you leave it as is, accept Payet's failure, and hope that a second of my players (Nolito / Candreva) is reted, allowing Schar's 6 points to be automatically subbed in?

    Thanks in advance all! 🙂

Definitely leave and in theory, subs will come in to play. Portugal should keep a clean sheet so you wouldn't really lose out on Sommers points. I think Italy are rotatinf so hope for the best.

Wanyama to Spurs then. If you'd have asked me a year ago, I'd have been devastated. But it was expected to come to this, as he consistently refused a new contract and we wouldn't risk losing him for nothing next summer. And to be honest, his disciplinary record this season was just so bad that we couldn't depend on him as we needed to. I don't see Poch knocking that out of him either, given the way Spurs lost their heads towards the end of the season. I hope (and believe) the money will be reinvested in a suitable replacement.

Oh we did replace them but I'm not convinced the replacements were of sufficient quality. Clasie may still convince me, Cedric stands little chance, unless we switch permanently to 3-5-2.

We could finish 2nd if Sweden beat Belgium 1-0 and we beat Italy 3-0 therefore finishing above them on goals scored

But that's probably a tad out of reach.

if we beat Italy it will be a serious overachievement.

Not sure we'd even get 4 past Buffon then..

Ireland need at least two third placed teams on less than 4 points.

Albania helped last night by ensuring Romania didn't, Wales and Russia can't both finish on 4 points.

So if England fail to beat Slovakia then Ireland will require one of the below results:
        -Germany to beat N. Ireland.
-Czech Republic not to beat Turkey.
-Portugal not to beat Hungary or Iceland and Austria to draw.

I still think the giant elephant in the room is the even if one of those results goes our way we still have to actually beat Italy....

I think we sold be sound on the front of other fixtures/results going our way, it's the part where we have to beat Italy that worries me.

Even though I always thought if we were to beat one of Belgium or Italy it would be Italy, so just maybe..

given that Italy top the group no matter the result it is our best chance to get a win.

we should have got 3 points from Sweden but the football gods have given us one more shot to get it right.

Well yes, obviously we have to beat Italy. If we can't win a game having lost a game, we'll deserve to be going home.

That Italian defence is brilliant, because it's the Juve GK and three CBs. That's going to be broken up for the game against us. You'd imagine Chiellini and Buffon won't play since they're both on yellow cards.

Eder, De Rossi and Bonucci are all on yellows too so surely they will be rested too which can only help.

in fairness if Italy played their entire bench they still have a better team than we do and if we play the way we did against Belgium we are gonna loose 2/3 nil.

Clark needs to go really, and I actually thought he was better than that.

Bad and all as Ireland were on Saturday if the ref had done his job and awarded the penalty the outcome would have been completely different.

Belgium would have been 1-0 down and their brittle temperament would have come to the fore.

Spurs may struggle in the League this year. Very tough fixtures immediately after 4 of their CL games.

    Oct 1: Manchester City (h)
    Nov 5: Arsenal (a)
    Nov 26: Chelsea (a)
    Dec 10: Manchester United (a)

With a record number of 1-0 wins?

I wouldn't mind but highly unlikely. More likely that we win with record number of 3-0 wins. 😎
