Next up in our series of members’ articles reviewing the numbers behind the 2015/16 campaign we put Crystal Palace under analysis.

We start by assessing their team data, comparing the Eagles to the rest of the top-flight, before focusing on their first-team squad and assessing the main goal threats and creative sources, in an attempt to gain insight on their prospects for 2016/17.

Having started the campaign with five wins in their first eight fixtures, Alan Pardew’s side looked like improving upon their tenth-placed finish in 2014/15 but Palace struggled to maintain momentum and won only six more matches in the remaining 30 Gameweeks, ending up just five points clear of the bottom three.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I'm looking at striking options beyond Sergio and Zlatan. Best striker out of this lot for FPL?

    A.) Batshuayi
    B.) Sturridge
    C.) Lukaku
    D.) Vardy

I don't get the Zlatan love, he was crap at Euro's and is about the same as John Terry under Mourinho and we all know how that went last season. Batshuayi could be a good value choice if priced fairly.

I know it is not a popular game on here and I know it has no correlation to FPL prices and it has probably already been posted thousands of times but link below to The Telegraph Fantasy Football prices at least provides some relief from the boredom of waiting for FPL to open.

    http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/03607/Provisional_list_1_3607894a.pdf

11 players, £50m budget, 40 transfers only, includes FA cup games
I always play it just to at least tide me through the FA cup weekends.
For what it is worth, my first draft is as follows (£50m) - 4-4-2
Finding a balance to go 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 isn't easy IMO although Siggy and Arnie look possible enablers.

    Courtious (3.8)
    Blind (4.1) Coleman (3.6) Cresswell (3.6) Bertrand (3.3)
    Alexis (6.0) Mkhitaryan (5.2) Mahrez (5.0) Barkley (4.6)
    Nolito (5.5) Batshuayi (5.3)

Anybody else fancy a go ?

Don't think Blind will play much under Mourinho mate and can't see Nolito scoring a lot either. I'd switch them.

Hmm thanks, Blind was gold in the Telegraph game last year as was priced as a defender unlike FPL. Think Nolito may be good as he is Pep's own signing.

Nolito might do well but more likely to play wide. I like your defence and midfield.

I've had a go but bear in mind this was only a 5 minute attempt so haven't put a lot of thought into it:

      Cech (3.8)
      Baines (3.5) Dier (3.4) Dann (3.2)
      Payet (5.3) Firmino (5.1) Mahrez (5.0) Alli (5.0) Townsend (4.2)
      Aguero (7.0) Gray (4.5)

It is tricky but I've gone heavy on midfield.

Looks good, Andre Gray looks quite a good enabler to get to 3-4-3, hadn't spotted him. Think Townsend is another option in the mix with Arnie and Siggy as midfield value.

I don't want to use it as a solitary excuse but if England:
              - started later
              - had an Xmas break
              - had one cup competition (or PL clubs entered later)

They would be more competitive than they are now.

I can't do much for others' expectations, even if flawed. There's a sense of entitlement surround money = results that ignores the capabilities of other teams. We'll still be a team shaking off the rust of two mediocre managers and their poor/underwhelming transfer business, but hopefully it's a quick shake.

I just want progress so would be satisfied with a strong title run and cup run.

Mané ? Why ? So inconsistent last year and plenty of competition in that Liverpool midfield especially with Euro rotation. A big price tag doesn't guarantee a starting place, ask Adam Lallana.

        • 10 Years

        Firstly, no Europa rotation.
Second, he has explosive returns at times and at a bigger club, I imagine a bit more so.
Thirdly, he is klopps first major signing, clearly klopp wants him and therefore will play him...He can even replace Daniel glass legs during inevitable constant injuries

At a bigger club, I imagine a bit more so - really ?

Just look at their previous signings from Southampton.

Lallana, Clyne, Lovren, Lambert - None of those have so far exceeded expectations in either FPL or in reality since leaving. Not one of them has improved their game.

    Two questions:

    1. Name a high-priced player from last year (at each position) that underperformed, will drop and resurrect himself.

    2. Name a budget player from last year who played well beyond his price that will be overpriced and under-deliver.

I am going to struggle to come up with four each, but these come to mind immediately:

    1. Baines
    2. Mahrez

        1. Bano is a good shout; I doubt Silva and Costa will drop materially.
        2. I struggle with Alli. On one hand, logic dictates that he'll jump to double digits and won't do nearly enough to justify the price. On the other hand, he could turn into Hazard of two years ago (or last year's Mahrez). On the other hand, most of Leicester would fit the bill here, thinking about it.

However I will probably go with him. I'm a big believer in premium strikers that are on penalties and score regularly. Ibra will likely top the captain poll gw2 (SOU) if he scores gw1. It would be risky to go without him. Other captain options available but Zlatan is surely the best. I'm Wildcarding gw 4 and good first 3 fixtures are good, so... happy days πŸ˜‰

Well, injury prone-ness is always an issue, however I think he's the most likely to get 15+ goals from the sort of players in his price bracket.

It's all about the numbers at the end, someone like Tadic will end up with numbers not that far off Ozil, in all honesty. But Aguero will end up with 10 more goals than someone in the bracket below him, Value over replacement player is a thing in long-term fantasy draft.

          1. Lovren an elevator
            • 10 Years

Completely agree. I'm in a draft league so not only have to keep my 15 all season but I'm 6th in a 10-man draft, meaning ill be lucky to even get 1 of Aguero, Haz, KDB, Kane.
I'm hoping to get Mhki 2nd pick and hoping Wilson will still be available come 5th or 6th pick.
Picking my defence last so they'll all be rubbish but ill make sure they rotate well. Good tactics?

Yeah, defence should be the last of your worries.

You have to start 3 max, so that should be 30 defenders drafted.

You should be *guarenteed* 3 defenders from the top 8 teams, no?

Very true didn't think of that but I'd rather make sure they are all absolutely nailed. So thinking take defenders well under the radar but are nailed and can rotate with each other.
                E.g. Ayala/C.Davies or Cook/Nyom
I'd rather those guys than take Mertesacker and he gets dropped for paulista after a couple of months

Too many players from the Dutch league can't transfer output across to premiership. They're not all Eriksens and bergkamps, look at Depay! Bundesliga players tend to fair better

The only year I got a low ID was the Summer where I'd just been made redundant after 16 years with the same company.
I'm very busy at work again so if I get to log on 7 hours after it opens, so be it.

Yes. There are no Five and Dimes in Ireland though. As you well know.

Think of it this way. The higher ID you get the better chance you have of getting a rank lower than your ID πŸ˜›

A low ID inn FPL is to some ffs folk like what a Ferrari is to some grey balls with a tiny knob.

Ha, it's so silly and means absolutely nothing, but now I want number 1 just because so many people on here want it, and I may not even play FPL this year πŸ™‚

I think the head guy in FPL has had ID no.1 for the past few seasons.
SuperDunny got it one year and maybe Demi as well

The only reason I used to like a low ID was so I could check my score easily whilst out and about without logging in on my phone. Now that the app's free, it's redundant.

Ah, that would make it nice. I hated having to type in my email and password on my phone every time. I figured out a way to keep the website from signing you out though. If you keep ur tab open in the transfers section it'll keep you logged in and you can check your score quickly.

Haha. This was the first year I played FPL competitively, and that's how I stumbled on this forum. I got so addicted that I was always on it, and the transfer page trick was such a savior πŸ™‚

Ooh they're great fun, I've seen them used for things like controlling lighting over wifi and household music systems. I think you'd enjoy something like that with your hands on nature.

I was thinking of something for outdoors maybe something with a sensor which detects movement and makes a noise or waves something about. Something to scare the vermin off

                        Something like that.

Maybe like a old style windmill and it turns when it senses something nearby?

We get sheep in the garden sometimes and as I get it in order it becomes more iritating
