Next up in our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, are Manchester United.

First up, we cast an eye over the Red Devils team statistics and compare them to the rest of the Premier League in Louis van Gaal’s final season at the helm, before delving into the data to assess their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources as we look to gain insight on their prospects under new manager, Jose Mourinho.

United ended the 2015/16 campaign in fifth position after racking up 66 points and were just nudged into the Europa League slots by rivals Man City on goal difference alone.

Whilst the Dutchman’s defence proved a handy source of Fantasy returns, the same can’t be said for United’s attack – they found the net on just 49 occasions, which was one more than Sunderland and down on their tally of 62 strikes in 2014/15.

I can't see them regressing, so if their players are marginally priced down due to last season then it might be a good opportunity to bring in some MU players

Will be the first time in a long time I've had 3 United players in my FPL team

I'm actually excited for Rooney this season. He may well be anything up to £2 mil cheaper than Ibra this season so he may be the better pick overall.

I'm expecting a decent uptake on the goals front, more of the same cs wise.

The longer we wait for FPL to launch the more I fear they have made sweeping changes. Hopefully it really is just a new site with some minor improvements.

Going by the screeny at least the frontend has been rejigged. It's going to be a buggy monstrosity that will just be pushed out of the door at the last minute for us suckers to do the "final" testing

Not sure about another AM - we have players that can play there already - Mkhitaryan, Rooney, Herrera, Mata

Think priority has to be a CM or two if we're going to play 4-2-3-1 which seems highly likely.

Rumours that we're in for another RB - Fabinho. Not sure that's really needed with Fosu-Mensah, Valencia and Darmian around but Mourinho knows what he wants

The AM was on the assumption that Mata was off. If he stays then it certainly has potential.

Yeah thats true. Good to see hes not after another LB 🙂 Is Love the only backup there?

Borthwick-Jackson too. Blind has played well at LB in the past and I believe may have played there a bit against Wigan.

Donald Love is a RB, and he's woeful. He won't make it here. I'd be surprised if he even made an appearance next season.

RB: Valencia, Darmian, Fosu-Mensah, Varela, Love
              LB: Shaw, Blind, Borthwick-Jackson, Riley
CB: Smalling, Bailly, Blind, Jones, Tuanzebe, Williams

If he stays I'm almost certain he'd hardly feature though. Can see him being 3rd/4th choice LB, and even lower in the pecking order for CB.

Axel Tuanzebe will play more than him imo. He's been promoted under the advice of Nicky Butt, and he's the best youth talent at the club. José has already been speaking very highly of him.

I'd love to see van Gaal's favourite little darlings Fellaini & Rojo sold.

If he was classed as a midfielder i would consider him, but I wouldn't go near him if he's classed as a striker (Which he will be).

Would rather have people like Firmino, Ozil, Alli, KDB who will all be playing in the same position but classed as a midfielder.

      Yes he'll be a defender.

I hope he starts as a CDM, think he's far more rounded than Carrick defensively, and arguably just as good at passing.

Every chance he'll get the role - he works hard and I think Mou may seem him as an Azpi type in that he has the kind of attitude that every player needs

True and they dont even value football. They will continue showing crap cricket shows which no one watches and the one that matters the most being pushed away from a large community. Seriously thats too much

they probably have to recoup the increased rights package prices. It's a sad state of affairs, but the only way anything will change is if people refuse to pay so much to watch football on paid tv or live.

Anybody considering Cuardrado? Conte likes attacking wingbacks....could be his Giaccherini. Also has stated that he is part of his plans...whatever that means!

Would rather Azpi if he uses wingbacks as he will get clean sheet points.

As stated the other day its worth keeping an eye on him but we are more than likely going to start 4-4-2 (4-2-4).

Starting to think that i need to start with both Kane and Aguero + one of palace or Boro strikers.

Sturridge can wait untill the fixtures improve.

Alli behind him is good enough for me to pick him. Moreover the fixtures are beautiful.

You'd hope Alli, Eriksen & Lamela would be enough for him but Dembele is equally if not more important for Kane.

If Bentaleb is fully fit and back in form then Dembele won't be missed nearly as much as he was last season.

Generally they perform worse, but even when they don't - it has a significant impact on Kane's performance. He's always dropping deep. In that game (if I recall correctly) he scored an open lucky rebound off a free kick, he gets a lot more chances in better positions with Dembele on the pitch.

Kane drops deep in every game. 4 shots per game, all outside the box.

Drops deeper* then. All I believe is I'm firmly sided with this Dembele affecting Kane theory.

Kane was also offside for that goal. Dier was offside for his goal too. That 4-1 is a flattering and deceptive result.

Kane scored once when Spurs scored 4 and it was marginally offside too. Plus it was one game.

I'm going to wait & see how Kane starts due to the Euros, I must admit I am on the whole Dembele bandwagon too, saw some stats about him during the Euros and it made for interesting reading.
