Next up in our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, are Manchester United.

First up, we cast an eye over the Red Devils team statistics and compare them to the rest of the Premier League in Louis van Gaal’s final season at the helm, before delving into the data to assess their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources as we look to gain insight on their prospects under new manager, Jose Mourinho.

United ended the 2015/16 campaign in fifth position after racking up 66 points and were just nudged into the Europa League slots by rivals Man City on goal difference alone.

Whilst the Dutchman’s defence proved a handy source of Fantasy returns, the same can’t be said for United’s attack – they found the net on just 49 occasions, which was one more than Sunderland and down on their tally of 62 strikes in 2014/15.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Its a bit pathetic that they haven't launched yet to be honest... nor released a proper statement. Leaving it as check in July is a bit muggy of them.... 30days before should be the understanding. Its not like they haven't had enough time....they have a great following and this is just frustrating for their user base. Although the best site in my opinion it is not the Only site and sometimes people transition to other sites in the wait of this one to open and then i don't know maybe get hooked on that?

    Not great by premierleague.com

They owe us nothing? Are you joking? you clearly have no idea how much money they earn through advertising due to the traction the site brings. The application on both IOS and Android generates approx 10million dollars +. The time and effort that does go into what they are doing right now doesn't happen for free and therefore they do require users. You also have no clue about Brand building and loyalty... So if you think they owe their followers nothing or their fans nothing then its fairly clear you have absolutely no concept on business. Im sorry if you feel this is harsh. But yes, its Pathetic on their front and Naive of you to think they owe "us" nothing.

please explain where you get a 10 million reveue from the apps. Legit question, as I can't see the advertising being that high as most is likely an additional benefit from PL sponsorship deals

To start with, no they didn't. There were roughly 3 million players, no way did 2/3 of them purchase the app when the website is easily accessible on phones anyway. Secondly if I remember correctly the app was £2 at most, so even if 2 million downloads did occur it wouldn't amount to 10 million.

Compare their advertising revenue and you will get close.

Premier League is a brand like any other... Apple/Facebook/Microsoft etc... They communicate with their followers and users with updates. Official statements. The iPhone 6 was delayed when it came out. A date was given- but on realising they were unable to meet that date, they informed their followers. Nothing wrong with that.. you don't agree?

              It's not that I don't agree I guess I just don't think it's as big a deal.

On the flip side, if they had put the date to last week but actually couldn't make it until week commencing 18th July - yes they could have told people but people would have gone mad that it was late.

We have no insight into what's going on in FPL HQ - they are probably working round the clock to bring this thing out.

We don't know how much work has been ongoing since last season finished so I don't think it's fair to just say "it should have been out by now"

Puts unnecessary pressure on the devs to release on that date. I would rather they have sufficient time to iron any bugs than release a broken game because they promised a certain release date.

Do we really think Zlatan can average almost a goal a game at United like he did at PSG?

PSG have a free ride in that league, and score when they want.

No because the PSG squad is better than the Man Utd one. If the PSG squad from last year played in the PL Zlatan would score at least on average a goal a game.

I truely believe that. Last year Man Utd were very lucky to have LvG keeping them tight at the back. Going forward they created next to nothing. If Zlatan doesnt do well it wont be down to him being older or the PL being 'tough' itll be because united arent creating chances for him.

I think Rooney could score 30+ goals in that league.

Apart from Silva, Matuidi, ADM(who failed at United), Lucas I wouldn't put anyone from that PSG in the United XI

Cavani is massively overrated. I said Matuidi, and Verratti is debatable.

Morgan, Herrera, Bastian aren't far off. Verratti is younger which is nice, but still not enough to make it that Zlatan could score 40+ goals a season with him in his side

And it's in fact not really different to what you said. You suggested Martial is better than guys in PSG lineup. Truth is, at PSG he would not be a starter. And what you said about Verratti was similar in that it shows you just don't know what you're talking about here.

25 goals is a great success! A goal a game? I don't care how good the team is he wouldn't do that in the Prem.

I'm pretty confident that Zlatan could not replicate the dominance that Suarez showed for Liverpool, and that was only 31 goals. And Suarez was in a (potentially) lesser team that year.

There is zero competition for them. They won by 31 points. I don't care how good they are, that's a shocking league!!

ADM didn't fail at United. He was their by far most creative attacking player, but was benched by LVG probably because he played too well.

Verratti, Rabiot and Aurier would walk in the ManU lineup. As would Pastore who can hardly make it on field at PSG. Motta would have last season too, but now age has caught him.

But it's not just the names of players. It's that that PSG lineup had perfected a style of play, it worked like a well oiled machine. The players found each other on the field easily which made every player that bit better.

You think Rabiot is better than Schneiderlin, Bastian or Herrera?

These are details now. My original point was Zlatan's incredible goal scoring record cant be sustained. And its not because his team mates aren't moving with him.

Firstly, City team is not "very below average". It's about the most dominant team in PL. Secondly, PSG were missing their whole midfield, which showed badly in their build up. That silently fluid passing game was nowhere to be seen, as players who had hardly ever played together were cutting the passing lines of each other and making bad passes. That's, literally and exactly, what cost them the win against City. They never got that game going that they had perfected before, because they missed the whole midfield that makes it work. In the 2nd City match, the only one who was up to that task was Rabiot.

Most dominant team? For the top standards, they were VERY below average last season. Joint 4th with United no?

That's where they ended, but only after not managing to win many matches that they dominated loudly. Luck is always a factor, but of course everything looks so neatly determined in hindsight. 🙄

You're putting their finish in 4th down to luck? Winning games that you dominate is part of being a top team.

No, of course not only luck. They had structural problems, and reliance on Yaya caught by age now. But to say they were below average is a joke. They still were really dominant in PL.

Mate, I meant below average for the standards of a top team. Which they should be with the money they spend.

Obviously not below average generally, otherwise they'd finish bottom half of the league. Thought that was obvious enough that it wouldn't need to be pointed out, but there we go.

Even below average for top teams. Where you draw that average line then? Between Bayern and Barcelona? In PL, there were three dominant teams, Arsenal, City, and Spurs. They were surprised by the lucky Leicester, and in the end Liverpool was probably the most dominant (but only for a very short part of the season), but that's it. If you say any of these three teams were very below average in terms of PL top teams, it's just stupid.

And ManU was a team who got extremely lucky to finish that high.

4th is below average for them.

Considering FPL is launching in the next 24 hours, I've just written a simple java script program, which will enable you to get the lowest FPL ID possible.

The program automatically refreshes the FPL page every 5 seconds. The moment its active, it logs in with your email/password to register a new team using a default team name.

Naturally ID 1 is taken. The other IDs are up for grabs - first come first serve. Anyone keen?

Email me at LowestFPLID@gmail.com. I will need your FPL login details (email and password).

Change in design will make it unlikely to actually work.

RMT's will be going around until everyone has the same team prior to first kickoff. I did that last season and got burned; had to WC by week 3. The WC worked out very well, though. So I plan on going with my gut and being punty up until I WC. Ignoring most template RMT's besides for the ppl who post about potentials gems during preseason.

    Your argument.

    - French League is a weak league.
    - Zlatan had a free ride

    My answer

    - Andrey Ayew
    - Raised to Dimitri Payet
    - Raised to hat-trick captain hero, Ollie Giroud.

The only thing wrong with Giroud is that he misses easy chances too much. He can more than cope with the PL. He does everything well until hes in front of the goal with the ball at his feet but U are right. Ruined a good point by mentioning Giroud.

Oh absolutely. Some players relish the competition and do well in it.

I just don't think Zlatan can achieve half what he managed at PSG. The ligue distorted his numbers

            1. pompeyfan
              • 16 Years
              9 years, 5 months ago

maybe, but look at his numbers elsewhere:

              Milan - 42 in 61
              Barca - 16 in 29
              Inter - 57 in 88
              Juve - 23 in 70
              Ajax - 35 in 74

If anything his record has got better with age, and with the bigger clubs.

          2. pompeyfan
            • 16 Years
            9 years, 5 months ago

agree. It's not the strongest of leagues but there have been lots of successful imports. Not sure that's because the PL is also not the strongest or because Ligue1 produces good players.

Good chance they'll continue to rise.. As a gamer and big Nintendo fan I wish I'd been quicker to react to this.. May invest myself still.

Yes mate, you have to call up. If you really want to do it, its worth it. From signing up to calling and placing the trade took about 10 minutes. You would need to have a nice chunk of money though as there are fees like £20 to place a phone trade. Up to you though. Ive gained 18 % in 2 days.

Nintendo shares have been double this in the past..

Looking further forward than Pokemon Go, they'll be releasing an Animal Crossing mobile game that should completely match the addictive mobile game with real money addon model + if the NX looks good..

Think it's probably a good time to back Nintendo.

100% - often said that the Boers are all massive because they snack on chunks of meat like Brits on crisps & chocolate. Also helps when they're running around outside all day Everyday from a very young age.

Do you hang & dry the meat, season it, slice it, the whole thing? In the UK?

          • 15 Years

Yeah I'm in Scotland. Buy a roasting joint and cut into strips. Cure it for a few hours in salt and brown sugar, then marinade overnight in fridge in cider vinegar/malt vinegar mixture. Then pad it dry and season with black pepper and crushed coriander seeds. Hang with plastic coated paper clips on a rack in a fan oven on just "light bulb" setting (ie no heat). Keep door ajar about an inch. It's usally ready after about 10 hours of drying.

very importantto use plastic coated paperclips as metal apparently can react with the meat. Also make sure strips aren't touchign each other as it can go rancid then.

            That sounds tremendous.

Tell you what might be worth doing is buy some biltong spices from a SA online shop in the UK. If you feel like mixing it up a bit. Some great flavours out there.

But as they say, your own biltong is always the best biltong, bit like mums cooking.

Ps have cut & pasted you technique, will give it a go one day.

A Brit living here for 30 years.
Biltong is dried meat usually beef but various types of game is common.
My family and just about everyone loves it but It has never really appealed to me.
Meat is pretty cheap compared ro uk but after it is dried it works out pretty expensive.
For the Brits to eat it they must have it as a treat i think.

Will Ramsey be available for Kick off or will his exploits with England see him given 'extra rest'?

      Ramsey is Welsh.

I think he's having an extra week or two off, missing the start of the season, along with koscielny giroud and sanchez i believe

Joe Allen will be back on the 26th so probably around the same for Ramsey at Arsenal.

Anybody considering Cuardrado? Conte likes attacking wingbacks....could be his Giaccherini. Also has stated that he is part of his plans...whatever that means!

Would rather Azpi if he uses wingbacks as he will get clean sheet points.

Yep saw that too - will be keeping a close eye. Still remains to be seen which formation conte goes for

      Conte won't use wingbacks

As stated the other day its worth keeping an eye on him but we are more than likely going to start 4-4-2 (4-2-4).

I'd prefer Schneiderlin over Carrick. Rumours of Fabinho(RB) joining too.

But that is one fine looking team regardless 🙂

Bring in Mata and Schneiderlin for Rooney and Carrick and we have a title challenging team.

That 31.3% conversion rate from Rashford is ridiculous.

To put it in perspective, Aguero achieved his league best last season 20.1%.

      Rashford is massively overrated.

With the change of manager and addition of Mkhitaryan and Zlatan, this article's numbers are hardly useful. 😉

No it's not. Of course I have not read the article, rarely do but this time I actually have a reason...
Just the LvG to Mou move made it quite redundant.
