Next up in our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, are Manchester United.

First up, we cast an eye over the Red Devils team statistics and compare them to the rest of the Premier League in Louis van Gaal’s final season at the helm, before delving into the data to assess their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources as we look to gain insight on their prospects under new manager, Jose Mourinho.

United ended the 2015/16 campaign in fifth position after racking up 66 points and were just nudged into the Europa League slots by rivals Man City on goal difference alone.

Whilst the Dutchman’s defence proved a handy source of Fantasy returns, the same can’t be said for United’s attack – they found the net on just 49 occasions, which was one more than Sunderland and down on their tally of 62 strikes in 2014/15.

I can't see him necessarily getting a goal a game like he has at PSG, but averaging about 1 every 2 seems reasonable

He won't be pulling up any trees. But he'll do decently well. Reckon he'll just about justify his FPL price, but can easily see merit in avoiding

I reckon he could pull up a tree if he wanted though...

If he's anywhere near 13m I'm steering well clear. Points per million won't be good enough for me.

Oh yes, that price would be too much.

I think 10-11m would be okay. But I'm unlikely to start with him - more interested in Martial even as a FWD

My thoughts exactly. All depends on price. It's either him, Kane or Batshuayi for me.

Not convinced Michy will start early in the season.

          I'm likely to go Kun + 2 medium/budget

Same. Have a bet on with a friend that he won't get 15 league goals. Could end up looking silly.

There's a lot of hoping going on around these parts.

I suppose it'll come down to what's considered a fail, in particular given it was a free transfer. As I said before though, probably nailed on striker in a Mourinho 4-2-3-1 with supply from Mkhitaryan, Martial, Rooney (or Mata, I hope) who scored against both Chelsea and City in the CL last season. Can't expect him to have huge pace, but that was never what he relied on anyway. Still has his strength, still has his natural talent and finishing ability.

He has the potential to do well at the very least, imo.

I really can't see him failing. His numbers over the last few seasons are out of this world and even if he halves his productivity because of age, tougher league etc, that is still a decent output.

Napoli will not sell striker Gonzalo Higuain for anything less than 94m euros.

    @Hamezmace.
I am basically self taught, but I am not an expert, intact, it sounds like Balders knows more than me. But, I am very interested in it, I read a lot about it and watch the stocks on my phone every day. If you have an iPhone, there is a preinstalled app called Stocks, thats good just to monitor things. Any free app that lets you practice for free is only a good thing. When you practice, try to get a focal point, like one main company, maybe use Nintendo as a base and think, hmmm, what else is going to affected by their success? Pokemon Go uses a lot of data so Phone companies will see a change. It uses a lot of battery so have a look at major power bank (portable battery) producers.
Its honestly good fun, and if you ever feel confident on a company, maybe have a flutter. I did very well with Amazon, which is what started it all for me.

        Not really.
Check out Motley Fool and Forbes.
Check out some random companies. I also have Under Armour shares. Why not google them and see what people say. Some will say buy, some say see or just stick. If you're actively reading say 5 articles a day you will pick up things quite quickly.
Start looking at different stock histories, ones that have done well, and obviously you need to see which ones have done badly, thats even more important, and investigate as to why they have done badly.
I had Virgin Money shares, but I sold them the day before Brexit as I knew we would leave. The following days the value went from 365 to 199. 46% drop.

I saw you did well with amazon and I don't think you should change your investing philosophy but there are a few question marks here. Companies have to grow, that is what the rises and falls are mainly based on. You did well with amazon because you bought at the bottom of the financial crash. If you look at the stock market since it begun you will see that the stock market always goes up, yes it crashes but then it goes back up.
The markets have been jittery for a while now because they struggle to see growth. China could be slowing down and everybody trades with them. Hargreaves Landsdowne is a strange bet, if you are foreseeing them expanding their business into other countries then its a good pick, but if house prices fall in britain it will get hurt. Not many companies grow by a lot, they only have to grow by 2 per cent so its very hard to make money. But hey, keep doing what your doing. If it was easy to double money we'd all be doing it.

assume a lot of people are coin tossing between: (as prob impossible to afford both in each category)

    Premium: Kun/Zlatan
    Expensive:Kane/Sturridge
    Medium: Lukaku/ Vardy
Cheap: Gray/any other 6.5 or below expected?

    What you all on?
    im Kun/Kane/Vardy/Gray in preference

    Midfield;

    Premium: KDB/ Hazard
    Expensive: Miki/ Payet
    Medium: Alli/ Mahrez
    Cheaper: Townsend/Ibe

Played 90 minutes in nearly every match he played last season.

In the CL he played 90 minutes in 8 of the 10 matches he played, the other 2 he managed 75 and 85 minutes. Also worth noting in these matches is that he played a full 90 twice against Real Madrid, Chelsea and City. If he's able for that I'd say he can handle it.

It must have been more than 2 mins - I'm pretty sure I was seeing RMTs before the site opened. Unless they were ultra-fast. I have a vague recollection that it was up for a day or two in advance.

Its a bit pathetic that they haven't launched yet to be honest... nor released a proper statement. Leaving it as check in July is a bit muggy of them.... 30days before should be the understanding. Its not like they haven't had enough time....they have a great following and this is just frustrating for their user base. Although the best site in my opinion it is not the Only site and sometimes people transition to other sites in the wait of this one to open and then i don't know maybe get hooked on that?

They owe us nothing? Are you joking? you clearly have no idea how much money they earn through advertising due to the traction the site brings. The application on both IOS and Android generates approx 10million dollars +. The time and effort that does go into what they are doing right now doesn't happen for free and therefore they do require users. You also have no clue about Brand building and loyalty... So if you think they owe their followers nothing or their fans nothing then its fairly clear you have absolutely no concept on business. Im sorry if you feel this is harsh. But yes, its Pathetic on their front and Naive of you to think they owe "us" nothing.

please explain where you get a 10 million reveue from the apps. Legit question, as I can't see the advertising being that high as most is likely an additional benefit from PL sponsorship deals

To start with, no they didn't. There were roughly 3 million players, no way did 2/3 of them purchase the app when the website is easily accessible on phones anyway. Secondly if I remember correctly the app was £2 at most, so even if 2 million downloads did occur it wouldn't amount to 10 million.

Premier League is a brand like any other... Apple/Facebook/Microsoft etc... They communicate with their followers and users with updates. Official statements. The iPhone 6 was delayed when it came out. A date was given- but on realising they were unable to meet that date, they informed their followers. Nothing wrong with that.. you don't agree?

              It's not that I don't agree I guess I just don't think it's as big a deal.

On the flip side, if they had put the date to last week but actually couldn't make it until week commencing 18th July - yes they could have told people but people would have gone mad that it was late.

We have no insight into what's going on in FPL HQ - they are probably working round the clock to bring this thing out.

We don't know how much work has been ongoing since last season finished so I don't think it's fair to just say "it should have been out by now"

Puts unnecessary pressure on the devs to release on that date. I would rather they have sufficient time to iron any bugs than release a broken game because they promised a certain release date.

Server crashes are common place in games, especially new games.

If I was investing I'd be ignoring the fact there's server crashes and looking to the fact they had more daily active users than Twitter recently

How likely is it that Mahrez is leaving Leicester? Do you think Vardy regrets rejecting that Arsenal deal really early doors?

Next thing you know, Kante, Mahrez are out the door and Leicester are mid table. He'll be 31 next season, and might not get another chance to play for a big club!

I like it a lot. My team name for this year is likely to be Frère Xhaka.

So I was thinking that a new chip I would like to see is the Double Captains chip, which allows you to get double points for your c and vc.

This would have been immense in GW34 last season when I had Sanchez captain and Aguero vc. Would easily have outscored either one tc

If Aguero and Sanchez scored the same then it's the same result.

Double captain would beat triple captain though in that scenario

        Not really. Tc = 3 x 25
        Double Captains = 4 x 25

TC is the same as 2 captains. Only difference is one player gets the captain points instead of 2.

I guarantee you 90% of FFSers would have used the chip there. Not much skill required.

TC is much more difficult to get right.

Ya but they were still split which one to play where. C + VC is an easy chip to play and get right.

Yep. Picking the wrong captain vs vice captain won't get penalised with double captains vs TC.

Picking a captain is far more reliant on luck then it is skill. TC just makes that element of luck in all even more relevant than it already is.

What's the consensus on Leicester's fpl prospects for the upcoming season on here? With Kante no longer in the team and some high prices for defenders and the likes of Vardy and Mahrez probably, do we still think they will be important in our teams?

It was tongue in cheek. However I did start with Vardy and Mahrez, but that was due to price.

One player I will be avoiding like the plague is Musa. Sure, he's their record signing, but he's exceptionally slight (5ft7) and I really can't see him adjusting from the Russian League to the intensity and physicality of the Premier League.

I'll consider Schmeichel, depending on his price, as I still think they'll be tight at the back.

I don't see any harm taking a punt for the first week on one of Mahrez/Vardy but I don't see Leicester players as integral.

      Considering Fuchs even at 6.

Considering Lei to become a top 6 team who will be good in defence under Ranieri. Fuchs is a BAP and assist beast.

Do you actually want Mandzukic? Personally always thought he was a little overrated. Lacazette or Morata would be better signings and realistic too, imo.

Why not? Madrid actively looking to offload him in order to fund a Pogba bid. West Ham are in Europe and have one of the best playmakers in the world, who most strikers would jump to have on their team.

Morata has won the Champions League with Madrid, got to a final with Juve, and starts for Spain. He's not going to West Ham to play Europa League.
