We continue our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, with a look at Southampton.

To get underway, we assess the Saints’ team statistics in Ronald Koeman’s final year in charge and compare them to the rest of Premier League, before analysing their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources in an attempt to gain insight on their prospects for the upcoming campaign.

The Saints finished in sixth position after embarking on a superb run of form that harvested seven wins and a draw in the final nine league fixtures.

    I'm pretty new to all this so can someone explain to me...

    Why would you pay 10-13m for Aguero/Zlatan/KDB types who may score 200ish when you can get guys like Baines, Terry, Shaw who can get 140ish for 5.5m and mids like Tadic, Siggy, Barkley who can get 150-180 for 7.5m?

    I don't see how these top dollar players are worth the money but then it seems like the teams who excel at this game usually have a good handful of them in their teams.

      Aguero is a must! Plus if you have one of the big guns and a £4.5m defender that scores 60-80 (Morgan returned well over 100 last season) it's worth it

      Hazard is always going to be top dog, he's one of the best penalty shooters in the world. Fabregas is a great option regardless, though, especially at 7.5M.

        Not convinced by Hojbjerg, he's a good player but doubt he'll return much. However, I'd need another million to get anyone decent.. Fishcer / Snodgrass / etc are all 5.5m..

        I love Koné and Pieters at 4.5 🙂

      Like the approach with defence. Naylor might be displaced by the 4.0 Kingsley (or something that sounds similar, can't remember name) so look out for that. Would rather Berahino(stoke) or Long over the Bou double up but really like the structure here.
