We continue our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, with a look at Stoke City.

To get up and running, we delve into the Potters’ data and compare them to the rest of the Premier League, before assessing their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources as we look for some pointers ahead of the upcoming 2016/17 campaign.

Despite finding the net on 41 occasions, Mark Hughes’ side still finished in ninth position for the second successive season. Although they mustered just three points less than 2014/15 – picking up 51 points – it’s fair to say that the Potters’ threat in the final third took a turn for the worse in a season that saw just nine of their players find the net.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Hi team,

Good to be back. Any thoughts on this crew?

    Heaton (Valdes)
Shaw, Fuchs, Van Dyk (Evans, Wilson)
    Mahrez, Hazard, Alli, Townsend (Hojbjerg)
    Ibrahimovic, Lukaku, Gray

No City, Arsenal or Liverpool, but you can't have 'em all ... unfortunately.

Is Jordan Rhodes still likely to start even if Negredo signs? Can't see them benching him altogether, surely?

Hi guys, any Cherries or Hammers fans about?

Gradel and Feghouli are both of interest to me. Do we see them both slotting into their starting 11s?

I'm thinking about getting them both and rotating with my 3rd striker.

it seems to me all the 6.5 strikers carry some risk

Wilson - fixtures aren't great and we don't know how he is after his injury
Gray - newly promoted, he could be an Austin/Lambert, but he could be an Ebanks-Blake, we just don't know
Rhodes - likely to drop out to Negredo (and Boro don't score a lot)
    Long - will he start?
    Austin - ditto
    Rondon - Pulis attacker
Berahino - likewise, but could be an option if he moves
    Carroll - troll

    Pick one and hope

If they were secure they would cost a lot more than 6.5m . West Ham are trying to buy a new striker so Carroll is out for me . I don't think Vardy and Ighalo were widely popular on here in pre season so it might just be a case of picking one , getting it wrong and adapting quickly

    First Draft:

    Heaton (Foster)
    Shaw Stones Friend (Soare/Kone)
    Mkhitaryan Firminio Siggy Townsend (Hojberg)
    Aguero Zlatan Rhodes

Keepers rotate well and are nailed.
If Stones goes to City will have a United and a City defender plus 3 nailed 4.5s.
Mids all have decent goal threat and/or share of set pieces and a nice range of prices 9.5, 8.5, 7.5, 6.5 (4.5).

One of Martial / Firmino represents such good value

Not sure which premium defender(s) to go for.. A lot of good options

Shaw vs Azpi vs Walker vs Baines vs Fuchs is a tough choice

Downgrade one of Bolasie/Feghouli, and upgrade Long I'd say. Then it looks pretty good 🙂

I'd appreciate if you could give me some feedback on my time. Obviously it's early stages and anything could happen, but as it stands I'm reasonably happy with it.

    Heaton Foster
    Shaw Terry N.Taylor Friend Dann
    Mkhi KdB Willian Elmohamady Leko
    Aguero Rooney/Lukaku Long

Will probably go Rooney for GW1 and if he doesn't perform switch to Lukaku therein.

Why nobody picking Soton defs or Forster?

Their home fixtures are just fantastic and after few weeks even away fixtures are wonderful.

new manager, lost another crop of players, could take a while to click and last season were slow on the start up

We have no clue about Soton defence with the new coach, despite Cedric there are safer 5,5M defenders out there.

Seeing too much love for kun here...
IMO why he shouldn't be bought @ the start-
1- scores goals in bunches and never very prolific from the off (last season most ppl had ended up selling him before that 5-goal match ag. Newcastle.
2- pep won't necessarily be an instant success, pl is much harder
3- Aguero is neither a target-man like Lewandowski nor a CF like Messi
4- players like kdb are new to pep's philosophy
    5- less value @ 13m

      reasons for having him.

      1) He is the best player in the game

What if he doesn't score in first few gameweeks (like last season please check)
He will have lot of owners, and as the most expensive player, will be sold recklessly and drop in price.
Ppl might panic AND when he DOES start scoring, u might not be able to afford him

he was first name in my squad

      best player in league
srtiker for best team in league (probably - bookies fav)
      fav to be top scorer
city will score lots, he will benefit
injuries are less frequent than when he arrived in premier league
      doesnt have much competittion
he is a captaincy option nearly every week
can be devastating in just 20 mins - see GW8

If a striker consistently gets over 20 goals a season, ur name can be yakubu or kun aguero, you're in my team.

Hes a known commodity and he does his job. I don't mind the 13m cos even when he gets injured, I know he'll come back and bang 5 vs whoever.

Better safe than sorry when it comes to Aguero in my opinion. Yes there will be weeks when he fails to score, same can be said for every player, but averages over 20 goals a season in the league despite never having a season without a spell on the sidelines due to injury.

I think that as long as he is fit, you must own him, it is just too risky not to.
