We continue our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, with a look at Stoke City.

To get up and running, we delve into the Potters’ data and compare them to the rest of the Premier League, before assessing their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources as we look for some pointers ahead of the upcoming 2016/17 campaign.

Despite finding the net on 41 occasions, Mark Hughes’ side still finished in ninth position for the second successive season. Although they mustered just three points less than 2014/15 – picking up 51 points – it’s fair to say that the Potters’ threat in the final third took a turn for the worse in a season that saw just nine of their players find the net.

people are really rating Michi, he had a a great season in the French League which is a lot less competitive than the PL/

Mane actually had a greater chance per minute ratio last season.

    He had a bad spell but there was a lot going on behind the scenes between him and the manager and the reports are he wasn't happy with the system Saints used, once he got over his bad spell he was banging them in.

      He blanked for 19 league games(20 actually but was benched for one) . That's not a bad spell, that's half a season. I rate him btw, but it was more his inconsistency flared and his finishing was poor.

        yeah it was a very bad spell he had but is creation ration was still high, and I think he will play better under the Klopp system

        Yes, Mané has a stinking attitude, as has been noted previously and probably one thing he needs ironing out.
        
        Again, his chance per minute ratio may be better, but it means nowt if he isn't scoring goals. The Klopp system may well suit him in terms of speed or pressing, but it doesn't change his innate finishing skill. But he's still very young.
        
        Tbh, I find the whole comparison strange. Why is Mané, a winger, even being compared to a striker?

    Of course the league has some excellent players but it is less competitive than the PL, the PL is prob the most competitive league out there.
    
    I wouldn't call Martial a success just yet, didn't have an amazing first season and looked poor when he played for France.

      It's actually very competitive once you take PSG out of it and had it's own Leicester-style story last year (before PSG inevitably ran away with it) PSG would probably rule the BPL too though.
      
      I'd say 25 goals+assists in 50 games for a teenager playing his first season in England and under a very defensive LvG is a success.

        I don't know if PSG would run away with the BPL, they were poor in the CL and City got further than them, a team who came 4th in the BPL.

    yes but if you look at Liverpool last season the were better against top 4 teams, especially away from home.
    
    Fixtures have to be subjective, you can't just assume Liverpool away to Man City is a bad fixture for Liverpool when you look at our record against City last season.
    
    Liverpool play with a system that works better against better teams, teams that attack more got slaughtered by Pool last year where as teams who sat back and sat deep, Pool found it hard to break them down.

      Sure, but it's a new season and it's tough to assume teams will be the same as last year. Look at chelsea last season, great example of how things can change. Not saying that pool can't beat those top teams. Just easier to base picks off fixtures to start than tinker after an early WC after scouting players like firmino and Mane after a couple tough fixtures

        I'd say that may be true for teams that took a new manager, which happen to be nearly all the top teams (Utd, Chelsea, City)
        
        but teams with stability, let's say Spurs, you know mostly what you're going to get.

    The thing was Palace delivered a huge amount of crosses last night - from Mutch, Fryers, and Townsend. The problem was they had no target. Ladapo was no presence at all. If Palace do go for Benteke he will fit right in with this style. Watch this space.

      Same happened with him last season.

  A system which will be deployed a fair bit, imo. Nordtveit is the only true DM there and I can see Bilić potentially adopting similar tactics to what he witnessed Joachim Löw use against Conte's team at the Euros.
  
  I know 4-2-3-1 is the preferred WHam system but I see 3 in midfield being used in certain tougher games.

So basically it's Foster for the whole season, and let's be honest WBA do consistently rack up double-figure clean sheets per season, so stick with him through the bad spells.

Burnley have question marks over them but you'll only own Heaton for their good fixtures at the start of the season, and he could rack up the saves.

Middlesbrough are tipped to be the most defensive of the promotion sides and do look good on paper. By GW8 we'll know if Valdes is nailed on and then that will be our keepers set up for the season.

    Only difference is with Heaton until GW8 you get 6/7 home fixtures
    With Valdes you'll only get 5 (6 if you wanna play TOT in GW7 though)

    Very possible yeah. I'm just guessing that a lot of the players won't have it drilled into them how big these changes are (or indeed aren't - let's wait and see how much they are enforced) and so there are likely to be slip ups in the first few games.
    
    If the FA are really serious about these it could be excellent in terms of player behaviour I reckon - almost a step towards the relationship between players and ref in rugby!

    Fingers crossed with Gabriel, it's early days but I have a feeling this could be his make or break season, hoping Wenger plays him from the off as he has a really nice set of 10 or so fixtures and has bonus potential if you look at his pure baseline.
    
    Ramsey is a doubt, yes. Ideally i'd have an extra £0.5m to get Eriksen but he'll have to make do. Also, if Ramsey doesn't make the first few games....Walcott anyone?
    
    Fischer is just a punt, i'll do some more fishing when I have the chance.

West Brom have yet to respond to a bid from Stoke of £20m for striker Saido Berahino, according to Sky sources.

Mark Hughes told Sky Sports News HQ yesterday that Stoke have already seen several bids for him rejected.

Stoke are prepared to pay £17m up front, with a further £3m in add ons, but it's emerged West Brom are not prepared to let him leave without first lining up a replacement.

In turn, we understand Albion are interested in West Ham striker Diafra Sakho, but again, the Hammers are reluctant to negotiate without signing a new striker of their own.

Berahino, who is in the final year of his existing contract, was last month offered an improved deal at The Hawthorns, but Sky sources say he has turned that offer down.

      That's true. But I said that because it would give me time to access Baines as well. Shaw and Azpilicueta under Mou and Conte seems to be the safer picks with slightly easier fixtures at first and they have attacking potential as well. Lets see Baines nailing the set-pieces at first, then will consider getting him.

        Agree and I see the value of Azpi here with Shaw and 3 by 4.5s I reckon.
        I got a lot of 9pts last year in def which saved my bacon a few times.
        You reckon Fab is too good to ignore along with Eriksen (Alli)?
        The other prob I'm having is a lack of Arsenal-so hard to get them all in.
        Probably in reality Zlat is too dear but that rotating (c) looks juicy!

        Yes that is. But its get too hard for me to fit them both in. What Bow said about Lukaku and Ibra's value swayed me a bit as well. But I think Lukaku if he is content at Everton, has to have a 20 around goal tally. And there are many options there as well. I'm currently looking at Costa as well.
        
        Fabregas I think is going to have a huge season. I digged up on Conte a lot. And in his first two seasons, Vidal was the 1st and 2nd top goalscorer and with the most assists as well. If Fabregas can do that, I am seeing a big value in him.
        
        I currently have Eriksen, not nailed. Looking at Mahrez for that 'ffs differential' cap first week in.

        Went away HVT. Last season I played FPL with much care but was burnt at the start and never really got up. 270k-ish I think. After Euros and top 100 in a cricket fantasy in the meantime, have a lot of hope to nail it this time. Hoping for first ever 10k finish hopefully.
        
        And yes the last team looks decent. I think Fischer may be a good pick than Snodgrass. There's a chance he may be OOP.
        
        And definitely getting Mahrez I think. Vardy is a good choice regardless of price. But it will be hard to overlook Lukaku/Benteke(if joins Palace)/Long as well
