Our series of articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, comes to its conclusion with a look at West Ham.

First up, we cast an eye over the Hammers’ team statistics in Slaven Bilic’s first campaign in charge and compare them to the rest of the Premier League and the previous season. After that, we then take a close look at their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources ahead of the season kick-off in just over two weeks’ time.

After finishing in twelfth place in 2014/15, the club parted company with Sam Allardyce and installed Bilic at the helm as they looked to cultivate a more attack-minded style of play in their final season at Upton Park.

It’s fair to say that the Croatian made an instant impact – away wins over Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City in the opening six Gameweeks set the trend for what was to follow, as the Hammers finished in seventh spot on 62 points, just four points behind fourth-placed Man City and 15 more than they managed in Big Sam’s final year.

Hey guys, I got some good feedback last time and changed a lot around in my team.

Nothing left in bank. Whadya think?

    Courtois, Valdes

    Baines, Shaw, McAuley, Pieters, Friend

    Mahrez, Silva, Eriksen, Mkhitaryan, Fischer

    Batshuayi, Janssen, Wilson

Do I not like that strikeforce. I think both Batshuayi and Janssen is too much as you don't know how much they will play or if they will adjust to the PL quickly.

        How about:

        Lukaku, Fletcher

        instead of

        Janssen, Fischer?

    A) 343

    Eriksen - Mkhitaryan - Tadic - Fabregas
    Aguero - Sturridge - Wilson

    B) 352

    Eriksen - Mkhitaryan - Tadic - Fabregas - KdB
    Kane - Sturridge

      Definitely B imo.

Even though I rate Sturridge very very highly, I'd probs sacrifice him for Silva/KDB and still buy a decent striker.

Defence is pretty terrible. Cabaye isn't great. Is go with Ayew over Sigurdsson.
Forward line is good, but I think the balance between the top and bottom is askew. All the top teams always have good defenders.
This is going to be a defensive year with Mourinho, Conte and Guardiola. There are points to be had in defence.

Kone and Stones are predicated on transfers. I could be convinced to do Watmore > Leko/Amartey/Mendy if there's a better GK pairing available.

Did a quick comparison of striker prices compared to bookie odds for top goalscorer, as a way of judging who the bookies reckon is good value in FPL.

    10 most expensive strikers:
    1: Aguero
    2: Ibra
    3: Kane
    4: Vardy
    4: Sturridge
    6: Costa
    7: Giroud
    7: Batshuyai
    7: Lukaku
    7: Rooney

10 most likely to be top goalscorer according to bet365:
    1: Aguero (10/3)
    2: Kane (7/1)
    3: Zlatan (9/1)
    4: Lukaku (12/1)
    5: Costa (14/1)
    6: Vardy (16/1)
    6: Giroud (16/1)
    8: Sanchez (20/1)
    8: Batshuyai (20/1)
    8: Martial (20/1)
Sturridge is back at 25/1 and Rooney 40/1.

So what to take from this?

Firstly, much like real life the English players seem overpriced. Vardy and especially Sturridge and Rooney are much lower on the second list. Obviously a player like Rooney would be expected to contribute with assists too but I would expect more of a goal threat for 9.0 million.

Secondly, Aguero seems worth the premium. He is the most expensive but as we all know if he stays fit he is by far the most likely player to finish top goalscorer.

Thirdly, Lukaku seems the pick of the mid-price options. The player that rises the most places on the second list so seems to be good value. With 9.5 priced Martial offering the same threat as 11.0 priced Sanchez perhaps he is more worthy of one of our United spots than trying to squeeze in Ibra.

I extended this research to some of the popular budget options and there was some big differences:
    Callum Wilson 40/1
    Shane Long 50/1
    Charlie Austin 50/1
    Negredo 66/1
    Gray 80/1
    Hernandez 150/1

Interesting that Wilson is twice as likely to be top goal scorer than Gray who I have seen in more drafts on here.

So using the a standard format and my analysis of the bookies odds a recommended front 3 would be Aguero, Lukaku and Wilson.

Of course this could all mean nothing, and bookies have been wrong before, but hopefully someone finds this interesting/useful.

    Evening all!
Been reading the forums for last couple of days, and starting to feel the excitement for a new season! Hopefully it will not be as difficult as last season. Currently on a pretty template team, but will sure change as season kick-off approaches:

    Foster-Jakupovic
    Shaw-Funes Mori-Friend-Kone-Evans
    Mahrez-Alli-Mkhitariyan-Fischer-Hojberg
    Kun-Lukaku-Long

    £1.5 itb

Think I'll need some Chelsea cover both in mid/attack and defence, maybe Lukaku goes for Costa.

"The best number is 73. Why? 73 is the 21st prime number. Its mirror, 37, is the 12th and its mirror, 21, is the product of multiplying 7 and 3... and in binary 73 is a palindrome, 1001001, which backwards is 1001001."
            - Sheldon Cooper 😀

            it's a good argument

Gavin: Yeah, the internet's just incredible, innit?

Bryn: It is, Gavin, it is, provided the remember the one golden rule, and I'll tell you what, it took me a while to get my head round it. What it is, you have to start everything, everything, with w-w-w-dot. And the best thing to do is to think of something to help remind you, like with me now, I think of "whiskey with water" which was my brother, God rest his soul, my brother's favourite drink. But it could be anything. I mean, you could say... come on, three w's. Um... women... wearing wings. No, don't say that, that's a terrible one.

            Gavin: What about worldwide web?

Bryn: Worldwide web. I like it, like a spider. Hey, that's the ticket, that's brilliant, you've got it. First class, that is!

Surely Pogba will steal points from Mkhi in the midfield
In fact I feel the United midfield will be humming and clicking leading to a lot of shared points...Ibra should be the one to really reap the rewards is my thinking. We could see a golden boot season out of him

Not seeing Schemichel in many teams. Based on last season defensive stats for Leicester compared to WBA, shouldn't he be expected to justify the extra £0.5 over Foster?

4.5, great fixtures, Pulis defence. CS + saves potential. Fully expected him to be 5.0 but a nice surprise.

Yeah, WBA might have been tighter at the back if Foster wasn't injured for that long. Let's hope the Pulis factor kicks in this season again.
