We were dressed for success, but success it never comes.

Suited and booted, we crown the new season riding a wave of giddy optimism. The positivity flows on the eve of a new campaign which, on paper, looks destined to be one of the best in memory.

Granville makes a belated return to ScoutCast action to join Jonty, Andy and myself as we start to sift the seemingly endless array of options open to us on the new season player list.

It’s bewildering stuff but, guided by you, the community, we attempt to navigate all your pre-season questions before laying our own cards on the table.

It’s amazing to be back amongst it again. Let’s just hope the smiles stay as wide for the next episode.

great forward line,. if anything too good as it leaves you a little unbalanced. But players chosen in other slots are good.

I had Gray instead of Ibrah.

but when I looked at high priced mids, I dunno gents, feel there is a number of mid priced mids this season that will deliver.

Not at all - 3 midfielders are being used as 'false' strikers this GW. It's a great squad!

        I know IM_Aweme. I know.

I look at it this way. Last year, we didn't know who would be the next Mahrez or Payet. So now is the time to gamble on them.

Team for GW 1 is ready (I think) - Thoughts?

    Foster
    Shaw, Stones, Friend
    Hazard, Firmino, Tadic, Ramirez
    Aguero, Ibra, Gray

    Juku, Baines, Amat, Capoue

Baines ----> Coleman is still something I might do.

      pretty solid.

myself personally, I"m not thinking Hazard is worth the investment, and such, I downgraded and upgraded Gray. but good team.

Evertons fixtures I guess. I'd prefer Coleman but he's nursing a small injury, I'm not sure if Williams will start in GW 2 which is putting me off.

Fair call. I'm going Williams because even if he isn't fit GW2 my other defenders can cover with decent fixtures.

Might be different for you though, since Amat might not even be a starter

Upgrading Capoue to Routledge would have meant unnecessary sacrifice elsewhere and tie up 0.5 for the sake of 1 fixture. Lets just hope he doesn't bang in a hat trick against Hull!

    Hazard Firmino Redmond Alli (Capoue)

    1m ITB

    My team

    Valdes (Foster)
    Shaw, Baines, Stones (Amat, Evans)
    Hazard, Firmino, Snodgrass, Eriksen (Routledge)
    Aguero, Costa, Gray

Happy with back 7 but I.... don't like it. Too template. I also feel it's jumping the gun on Firmino, he'll be a good option after the initial wave of brutal fixtures, but Pool could hit the ground running given their extensive pre-season. Would like to gamble on Oscar or Fabregas but can't choose which one.

    Basically it's
    1. Firmino + Costa
    2. Oscar/Fab/Tadic + Vardy

Considering that Redmond might not start this week after playing w/ the u23s, maybe we'll see next week. I don't see Redmond bringing that lethal injection that Mane brought. Good player though, but I don't rate him as a fantasy prospect. At least not until the Saints are more comfortable in attack with their new formation. But they're known to adapt quickly.

Anyone planning for a GW1 wildcard? So much is up in the air and the start of season is such a lottery, most people end up knee jerking and WC'ing anyway. Strongly considering just planning a team to maximise GW1 with fixtures and the cheapest bench possible and then restructuring from there

A bit punty, but there's always the early wildcard:

    Heaton (Foster)
    Valencia, Stones, Friend (Evans, Amat)
    Mane, Tadic, Oscar, Lamela (Fletcher)
    Musa, Kun, Ibra

    1. Trashpanda

Too many punts. I'd prefer a 6.5 than Musa, might not start.

    2. StalkingDwarf

I like it. I expect Musa to be a super sub for now. Bringing in extra pace when everyone's tired. Personally, I'm not sold on Stones. When all CBs are fit, I don't see him nailed, but others do. I also wouldn't trust CIty defence. They just looked slow and sluggish in their tiny amount of friendlies. Pep's habit of rotation and the CL qualifier doesn't help.

    A) Mahrez+ Lamela
    B) Alli + Deulofeu

Tadic and Firmino on either side

Are Amat and Kingsley both potentially permanent fixtures?

No. Amat might have longer longevity

So I have 1.0 ITB. At the moment relatively happy to keep it sitting there but any thoughts?

    A) Use it to upgrade Ramirez -> Delefeou/Townsend
    B) Upgrade one of my defenders: Valencia, Evans, Williams, Friend, Stones
    C) Keep it ITB

    Would appreciate some thoughts 🙂
